Can definitely taste the difference especially in Steaks and chicken. Organic AND Halal… What better could you ask for? I took one star off for their delivery service. They recently switched to a ripoff third party, who would charge a percentage on your bill PLUS an expensive delivery fee. They need to fix that. I would suggest investing in their own delivery team.

Their meat is really, really expensive but its since its near impossible to get even half decent halal steaks, I buy from them. I used to get delivery because, for the price, you should hope they do something special for the price. But with the new postmates delivery system(average an average order of mine, which runs around 200, would results in a 30 delivery fee), they are just not worth it. Anyone who doesnt care about halal, I would suggest going to some other meat shop. I am sure you will get a better price-quality combination.

the quality of honest chops has significantly deteriorated since anas hassan left almost a year ago. let’s break this up into meat quality and customer service/delivery times and do it chronologically: MEATQUALITY: with anas meat was typically flavorful, clean, and well-butchered. never once had meat with an «off» smell, and everything was fresh(never crusty) and prepared on-time. both chicken and beef were clean, but all in all, the beef is better than the chicken for sure. the chicken may as well be store-bought in my opinion, as it is engorged and sometimes rubbery. the only exception is the whole chickens, which are delicious and not fake-tasting at all. MEATQUALITY: after anas have gotten a couple of chicken pieces with foul smells, something which never happened before. this is a big no-no for a butcher shop! when i arrive for pick-up, sometimes my wait times are way longer than they used to be and my packaging instructions aren’t followed(which they used to be). CUSTOMERSERVICE/DELIVERY TIME: before anas always pleasantly-greeted when i entered, was offered helpful suggestions on my meal planning. generally a nice experience. CUSTOMERSERVICE/DELIVERY TIME: after anas been spoken to rather rudely over the phone more than once. long wait times when i enter(it’s often unmanned). delivery times are also awful – deliveries arrive hours late, even though the time block is generous. during thanksgiving, we called several times to make sure the turkeys would be available early, but they weren’t there when we arrived at the time we arranged. as soon as we got back home to brooklyn, we got a call saying they were ready – no apology. just pretty shoddy customer service across the board. TL:DR; mediocre chicken, good beef, and awful customer service. i still think it’s worth it to support the best halal eco-minded butcher i’ve been to, but i wish the customer service and quality didn’t sink so far after losing just one person.

I definitely recommand this butcher. Very good quality of halal meat and the guys working there are super nice. I travel from the upper east side to get my meat and i never regret it.

So happy this place exists! Such friendly service and a quality selection. I always try to come here instead of buying my meat at the grocery store.

Hands down the best butcher ive come across in NYC. Its local, organic, and the animals are not processed inside cruel industrial slaughterhouses rather the entire animal is divided up inside the butcher shop. It doesnt get fresher and cleaner than that! They also sell every part of the animals(liver, tongue, ect.). This is a proper butcher. PS. Try their steaks

I am updating my review to reflect the actual experience. Purchased many items(see my last review). When it was time to cook they didn’t come out as flavorful as expected. The kabobs turned out dry. The lamb was nothing special. The only worthy items were their brisket blend hamburger patties. I really wanted this place to impress me. Unfortunately the end product just did not live up to expectations. Not worth the trip into the city.

Great quality meat but the reason for the 2 stars is due to their consistently late delivery times. Instead of giving a one hour window they should give a 4 – 5 hour window so that their reputation isn’t damaged and people’s expectations are met. Haven’t they heard of under promise, over deliver?! 10−5−15 and an update on my last review. It’s almost 10pm and I still haven’t got my delivery even after being assured it would arrive before 9pm. Honest Chops is CONSISTENTLY late. I’m done! I won’t be ordering from them again!

Watching Food Inc. didn’t turn me into a vegetarian, but it certainly had me thinking about where my beef was coming from. I recently moved to East Village, and Associated Supermarket(a less than desireable option) was seemingly the only choice for buying fresh meat. As a butcher rookie, I decided to turn to Unilocal to find a conscious and reliable local butcher. I found Honest Chops only 5 blocks from my apartment and bookmarked it. Some days later, I was in the mood for a steak and knew just where to turn. I arrived on a Saturday around 6pm, and it was still busy inside. At first sight, they had a nice selection of homemade sausages, short rib patties, and whole chickens. I also discovered it is a halal butcher, so they don’t carry any pork product. I wanted to pick up two 8oz filets for my friend and myself. A very nice employee came over to assist me, as I noticed they had no filet left in the refrigerated display. Feeling a little disappointed, I was about to opt for a different cut. He then told me, «Oh no problem. We have more in the fridge.» He disappeared for about five minutes, and then suddenly I saw him emerging from the fridge carrying an entire cow carcass. The WHOLE cow. How many tiny butcher shops in the East Village do you know that process whole cows? He proceeded to butcher the carcass to retrieve my filet. It took him about 10 minutes, but I just watched in fascination. He finally finished and arrived back with the filet and sliced me two 8oz cuts. The gentleman that was helping me could have easily suggested I try a different cut, but instead went through all of that effort just for my pound of filet. Not only was this excellent customer service, but I also appreciate that they make the effort to process the entire cow. You can even trace your meat back to the original animal. It doesn’t get much more transparent than that.

Um, nicest people on the planet? Certainly in NYC. Great shanks of lamb, too. Organic, grass-fed, local reasonable priced butcher shop. Will be back over and over again. Cheers, fellas!

The cliff notes: 1. The meat is going to be the freshest and best tasting you have ever had 2. You are going to want to try everything, so it’s best to get something new each time So I found Honest Chops while living in the East Village and decided to try it out. Yes, the meat is a little bit more expensive than your traditional shop or grocer, but the meat is fresh, lean, and outstanding in it’s flavor. 110% worth the price. I have had both the beef and the chicken, and both were outstanding. The staff is very friendly, and if you ask them for help and/or recommendations, they are always willing to offer advice.

Let me start by saying I am French Moroccan. Since I live in America, I became a vegetarian. Why? Because meat here makes me sick. Literally. So I stopped eating meat. Literally. But my husband is still a carnivore. So I needed to find a place for him. To get him good quality, clean, honest, fresh meat. And I did find this place: Honest chops. Since that day, we are not going anywhere else. Even if it’s not close from where we live, even it’s not cheap(not expensive either), we wouldn’t go anywhere else. And guess what?! I reintroduce meat in my diet since its Ramadan, so I needed this extra protein. I feel wonderful! Did I tell you that they where really nice in the shop?! Awesome guys. I highly recommend!

I love ordering from Honest Chops. I had a poor experience buying halal meat while in Austin, and switched to buying organic meat from grocery stores. When I moved to New York, it was difficult to find quality meat sources. I used to trek over to Whole Foods and stand in long lines to buy expensive organic meat. I eagerly awaited the Honest Chops opening. I placed my first order in June 2014. I ordered $ 100 worth of meat to take advantage of the free shipping. When it arrived, the raw meat was noticably high quality. On cooking, there is no «chicken» or «beef» taste, meaning the meat is very fresh and high quality. Since then, I’m a regular customer. I order $ 100 meat every two months to cook for two people 2 – 3 times a week. The price is amazing — half the cost I was paying at Whole Foods, but with the same quality and taste(if not better). I no longer view cooking preparation as a burden, my cooking-related stress level has decreased, and I cook more often. I’m so glad to have halal meat and to be able to share my cooking with zabihah-eaters. I order online and in the notes, I ask Honest Chops to cut the chicken breast I order into 2 inch cubes, and to package all of my meat in 1-lb bags. This saves me a lot of time and hastle in preparing the meat into individual packets. When it arrives, I simply stick it in the freezer, ready to thaw in the amounts I need. I recently started ordering the chicken cutlets, which are amazing for lebanese grilled chicken salads. I marinate the meat on arrival and freeze in 1.5 pound bags for use throughout the month. I really appreciate the delivery service in Manhattan. It’s always on time, and the staff at Honest Chops are nice people. One time, my delivery arrived, but my doorbell didn’t work and they couldn’t get a hold of me by phone. They still swung by a couple of hours later just to make sure I got my delivery that day. Another time, I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment when I went to grab my delivery, and the delivery person let me use their cellphone to call a friend. I’m going to awkwardly end my review on that note.

Very high quality products and superior service. There meats are really clean and elegantly presented. Nicely wrapped in butcher paper. They went out of their way to deliver the meat to our home in queens at 1130pm on a Friday night. more expensive than the average halal butcher in queens or Brooklyn but you will never find the cleanliness and quality anywhere else.

This place is so great. I love supporting local, humane, organic food growers, but can’t always make it to a farmer’s market, so I’m thrilled this butcher is here. You can really taste the difference compared to supermarket meat, even Whole Foods. And the prices are still comparable/totally worth it for the quality. Even when I make the most basic roasted chicken recipes, they taste restaurant-quality. Hardly need to add other ingredients. Staff is also kind and will make cuts to order, can also give you some cooking tips if you’re unfamiliar with a cut.

$ 3 short rib brisket burgers are one of the best things you can pick up from a butcher shop in the area and prepare yourself quickly and easily and have it taste good. Staffers are nice, but don’t greet you if they’re busy. PS opens @ 2 Fridays. 3xShort Rib Brisket Burger $ 9.00

I mean who doesn’t want CLEANMEAT, FRESHMEAT, ANDDID I SAY«CLEANMEAT». The price is high, but lets face it, anything this clean, pure and Honest doesn’t come cheap, and i am willing to spend more so that me and my family can eat clean meat, it’s the least i can do since all the other food in my fridge is prob packed with GMO’s and preservatives. Purchased a Whole Chicken(they chopped it for me, asked how i wanted it chopped, and if i wanted skin on and off, that was nice), Skirt steaks and Lamb shoulder chops. all was very tasty and fresh, my favorite was the Lamb & Beef, very juicy and not chewy like in super markets. OVERALL, I will be going back… And to Honest Chops, I hope you business continues to grow and with that your prices drop lol, Thank you!
