I just bought a violin for my daughter as her first serious student violin. I visited there twice spending for about total 5 hours (with my husband and younger daughter on the next day) comparing probably around 10 violins and finally got an old Germany violin that both my daughter and her violin teacher loved. The violin was priced within my budget, in my opinion, quite fair, as a result, I didn’t further negotiate. Kate and her technician were both very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient with my daughter. I have to say this is the best shopping experience I had so far comparing the other music stores I visited before. Kate also gave us violin bow that my violin teacher pointed out later that it was really good. Highly recommend.

I would give it zero stars if I could.
My friend borrowed my bow while in town for an audition. While he had it, he broke the tip so he offered to take it here for repair. He told them what happened, paid for the repair, and gave them my name as the owner.
When I tried to pick it up, I was told that only my friend, who had since left town, could pick it up. I said I was the owner and that I had proof such as my insurance policy on the bow that it was mine. They said that I probably sold it to him and was trying to steal the bow from the shop. Um… wtf. They are paranoid schizophrenics, obviously.
After many MONTHS, my friend has had to send them a handwritten letter by mail, a copy of his bank statement showing he paid for it, and a copy of his ID to prove that he was who he said he was since they do not accept emails. Again, wtf.
After all of this enormous hassle, I finally was able to get my bow back. They didn’t even mention all the bullshit they’d put me and my friend through for a simple repair.
I will never ever use them again and strongly recommend you do not either unless you never want to see your instrument ever again.

I went in to buy some strings for my cello. My teacher recommended Ideal Music. Kate was the sweetest woman. Very helpful. I was in and out. I would give this place 5 stars but I didn’t get any work done on my instrument. Just a simple purchase, but I’ll definitely go back for something else in the future. I’m a fan!

Kate and all the folks at Ideal care about you and your instrument be it a cello, violin, viola or bass. I’ve gone to other repair shops in NYC and have been overcharged and received poor work on my cello and bow. Ideal music always charges a fair price and does quality work. Always. I will be purchasing my next, slightly more advanced, cello here and will continue to take all my instruments here for any needed repairs.
