Ok my biggest issue was this… a restaurant not grab and go place only takes AMEX and cash? That is what the bartender said to us. I will say the bartender was nice. We were just there for a quick drink and I am glad we only came for a drink… I wouldn’t condiser eating here. It looked a little grungy and gross. I noticed the place was really empty(there was 2 small groups there besides us) it may have been that if I am going out to eat at even a moderately priced establishment I am not going to just bring a wad of cash with me. And everyone doesn’t have an AMEX. On a Saturday at 630PM the place was empty. Keep on walking there are better places to eat and to grab a drink.

Our favorite place to go in soho. True casual French style bistro. Staff is so friendly, they remembered us after the first time. Even our drink orders! Great place to people watch. But the real reason I love this place is the steak tartare. It’s served with all the ingredients on the side so you can add as much or as little as you want of things like mustard, diced cornichons etc. Much better than the other overrated French style bistros in the area.

This review is for the underground cocktail lounge. It used to be called«Jacque», but now named«Shortys». Entrance is to the left of the upstairs Jacque 1534 restaurant. Nice speakeasy vibe with well crafted cocktails. Our mixologist was named Eden. All drinks were superb with a special shout out to the absolute BEST Sazarec I have ever had. They also have a limited food menu to help soak up that great booze. TIP: to ensure seating at either the bar or booths, get there prior to 10:00. It normally will be pretty empty. After then the crowds start to come. Even though he was by himself, Eden kept up with the orders admirably. Try it out.

With all the great options in the area, I’m surprised that a restaurant with such a low quality can exist We had the portobello sandwich which was ok. Simple and well made. I also had the poached eggs with salmon which were pretty horrendous; the salad was bad, the dressing too strong and not appropriately put. The eggs were overdone and the salmon wasn’t very fresh. I went inside wo checking my Unilocal because the area always delivers. This was my first bad experience

I had heard that the French toast was fantastic, but I was not expecting this. The French toast was absolutely amazing and was easily the best that I have ever had. Along with that, the service was great, the outside seating was great, the interior decoration was great, etc. I can recommend this to anyone looking for a quick brunch or a good French toast. I don’t know personally about the rest of the menu, but I see no reason not to come and try it out. The staff is kind and the restaurant is great.

Hands down the best French toast I have ever had. Served with a side of syrup and mixed berries which consisted of raspberries, sliced grapes and slices strawberries. The French toast had a great texture and amazing flavor! A lot better than I was expecting. I also got a side of truffle French fries which came with a side of ketchup and a side of mayonnaise. The fries looked and tasted as if they had been cut in the restaurant which I appreciated. My friends who I went with got the Jacques burger and the Cuban sandwich and both enjoyed it. Service was fast and friendly and the ambience was lovely. Great for date night or to enjoy with friends.

A restaurant in New York with a French menu and«French décor?». Anyway, the bavette was decent enough, the tartare was disgusting and slimy. It had to be sent back. The menu just isn’t that great. The service is good, but they aren’t serving you anything spectacular.

Exceptionally horrible! Where to begin? I’ll skip the entire drinks debacle, as that is more a result of a language barrier than anything else, and move on to the food. Don’t eat it. We ordered some appetisers: the French onion soup, the escargot, and the terrine. The soup came to the table, croutons blackened and swimming with oil over a thin veneer of cheese. Under this, more bread and piles of onions sat with barely any soup, and all barely more than room temperature. The blandness of it all was impressive. The escargot were burnt on the top, bitter with likewise burnt garlic, but only lukewarm and barely cooked on the bottom. It was obvious from both of these that they were not cooked, as much as shoved into the salamander broiler for a few minutes to approximate the cooking process. The terrine de campagne was a hard slab of grey processed meat, served with a supposed celeriac julienne in remoulade which was more appropriately a grotesque slaw of mayonnaise, sriracha, and something vaguely vegetable. We did not order an entrée. There was no point.

Go on Wednesday for Couscus. It’s quite excellent. Duvel was properly poured and it was in the proper type of glass(Tulip.) Props to the waitress. The beer is also rather inexpensive. I think Chimay Blu/Grand Cru was only 10 and Red/Première was only 9 which is way lower than most fancier places in New York, usually 12 for the former and 10 for the later. Went here with 2 others, nice waiter. For the food, they were bit pricier than I would like. The drinks were fine(1 beer [duvel], and 2 glasses of wine.) Average pour. Others had French Onion Soup as well as the special of the day(Carrot Ginger) Him: French Onion broth was fine, onions could have been a bit more mushy and the cheese could have been a bit saltier. Otherwise, excellent. 3.9 Her: Carrot Ginger: I’m never a fan of this but I tried it. It was fine as it is. No rating as I don’t like it. Mains: Me: Special of the day: Couscous Royal(with Merguez(spiced Moroccan Lamb/Beef Sausage,) duck, a little little bit of chicken, and a lot of veggies. It was served with a broth as well as Harissa(a red-pepper based spice) Excellent Couscous. Frankly, one of the best I have had. 4.7 Merguez: Had the proper flavor. 3.6 Veggies: Cooked till tended, 3.3 Single piece of flavorful-ish chicken 2.0 Him: Had some form of roasted fish, didn’t try much but it was fine. Her: some light salad, had some of the apples for kicks. For once, I am barely reviewing anything as I wasn’t super hungry. The duvel helped though and the couscous was properly made. Go on Wednesday for Couscus. Otherwise, I might skip this place. 3.78

Lovely French bistro on Prince Street with friendly staff and delicious food. Try the Escargot to start with a glass of the Sparkling Rose wine. And no matter what entrée you order(though I highly recommend the Parpadelle with Mushrooms), you need to get a side of the Truffle Fries. And leave room for dessert… the Apple Tart and Crêpe Suzette were winners at my table!

Cute place, realy nice bartender/server, nice option for outdoor seating/people watching, on point escargot, nice ‘Way of the Dragon’ and ‘Jacques 1534′ drinks, nice menu, good prices for the area. I hope to return to make it through more of the menu, and hopefully raise my star-rating on the review. However, the bathroom is way too dark and dingy for my liking, and my drinking companion was stuck by the broken wicker chair… a happening by which the server/bartender didn’t seem too surprised.

There were some mixed reviews, but I took a gamble! My girlfriends and I were meeting for dinner. This wasn’t our first choice, but there was a reservation available at 8, and I had been here for drinks once before. The dinner menu looked decent, so we gave it a go! Everything was really satisfying. We shared the cheese board, the crab cakes, the artichoke appetizer, and the kale salad. That was a lot of food to start with, so between the three of us we had two entrees: salmon and short ribs. I wasn’t interested in the salmon, but the short ribs were delicious! I especially loved the mashed potatoes and the brussels sprout mix that came with it.(One of my friends didn’t really enjoy the smoky flavor, but I did!) We each had a drink as well. I had this bourbon and blackberry concoction. It was refreshing and well-balanced. The desserts didn’t really grab our fancy, so we skipped out on that part of the meal. Service was good. Ambiance is nice. I love coming to this part of the city on a warm summer night. We walked around NoLita and SoHo after dinner and it was superb. I’m a fan.

Went here tonight to the downstairs lounge. It was empty when we got there, we sat down, and water was brought to us right away. It took awhile for the waiter to come to our table, but after he took our order everything was fine. The waiter answered out questions and made suggestions, we got our drinks quickly and we order some food that came out quickly. The atmosphere was intimate, a good date spot. Drinks were good too. This is the reason I am giving it three stars, at about 845 – 9 the waiter brought us our check. He did not ask if we wanted another drink, and we did not ask for the check. It was rude, I felt like I was getting rushed out even though there was open tables. If they were closing at 9pm, he could of told us, then I would of understood, but instead he just gave us the check and said whenever you’re ready.

A great bar, the basement has a little bit of a bathroom antiseptic smell, but there are plenty of spots for a large group. The cocktails are decently priced, and are interesting tastes. Unfortunately, it’s definitely one of those ‘artisanal’ places where it seems like the bartender prefers to be called a ‘mixologist’ with a snooty tone in his voice. Our bartender didn’t have that attitude but it did take to make the cocktails. I mean, it’s the stuff on their menu so it should be something that can be made pretty easily. I got the Golddust while the lady got the Rose de Jacques. While they were both good it took nearly twenty minutes to get both cocktails, it wasn’t like he was super slammed or anything, it seemed like he was simply taking his time. I understand that well-made drinks can take time but a Hendricks and tonic also was very time consuming. Another in our group went up to order a glass of wine and even that took time to get. If you’re willing to wait around for your first drink you’ll be fine here. If not, be prepared to wait a while for… anything.

Erin and I found a deal on Gilt City and decided that we should come here for a drinks date night again. :) it’s always good catching up with my girl! :) We wanna grab a table downstairs but it was not open until 7.(it was 6.59 I remembered). so we walked around nolita and came back around 7.30. Downstairs was quite and cold. Nice place to date and have a conversation. Our deal includes 2 drinks each and a plate of appetizer. We ordered bacon covered dates with blue cheese. I got to agree everything tasted good with bacon. I hate blue cheese but I am glad that the bacon and dates kinda«kill» the smell of it. For drinks. We decided to go with something off the menu first. i don’t remember what we ordered but we just describe what we like to the mixologist. I always like my drinks to be sweet and sour. So he made me something refreshing and with some lemon in it. I really like it as it is something special that non of the bartender made me before. I really like Erin’s drink but I don’t remember the name of it. I decided to go with Twilight in Negril with my favorite Rum and Pineapple and some lime in it. Erin went with Sweatpants & Vodka. The ginger and the chocolate gave this drink a unique taste. I really love this bar. I never try the food here before so I can’t comment on it… The downstairs looks like a speakeasy. quite and classy.

Interesting underground bar. Nice layout with plenty of cushioned lounge seats, a few high chairs by the bar. Bartender was quite nice. It was a bit empty for a Friday night at 9pm. Their cocktails are a bit on the weak side. Very fruity and light with just a hint of alcohol in it, easy for those that aren’t big on heavy drinks. But pricey for the quality of the cocktail.

Great little lounge. Good music and good place to have small parties, as there are only about 10 tables. I tried the Princess Jasmine drink; the name sounds very silly but the drink was AMAZING. It has jasmine infused tea, gin, and egg whites. The only reason I didn’t give this place five stars is there is no reception in this place at all, so it’s hard to communicate with friends trying to meet up. I had to walk outside in the cold to send quick texts.
