There are so many galleries in Chelsea, this was one of many that I had not heard of but went for the Bill Viola show. Bill Viola is an established video artist who lately focuses on the image of a human being suspended or caught with an heavy stream of water coming down on them. The gallery created multiple rooms to feature commnding large scale 20′ screens in a massive space kept pitch black with the more smaller videos in intimate rooms all within an appropriate maze of hallways to cue the new experience. Again this gallery demonstrated the Chelsea gallery trend of producing a museum quality show both in art quality and in display that is intensely satisfying. Any trip to new York deserves a good day in Chelsea to explore the myriad of top notch galleries between 26th and 18th street all between 10th and 11th avenue. Start at 26th and work your way down, end at the Whitney in the meatpacking and add in lunch and a stroll down the hi line.

The Live Wire exhibit was interesting, but not that compelling. Lots of TV and video cameras and wires. The best part was a little buddha who was sitting looking at a television screen that showed him, and when you walk behind it, you can be seen in the TV too.

Cool gallery and the art is not pretentious. Beautiful hardwood floors. Great stable of artists.
