Janovic Paint & Decorating Center

It’s been a little over a year since my original one-​star review and it’s definitely time for an update. I was convinced by my neighbors to return to this location of Janovic. We are at the touch-​up phase of our project, so I can’t address the problems we had matching paint colors. But I can say that they seem to have fully addressed their customer service issue. Everyone I’ve dealt with recently has been helpful and professional.

Pretty indifferent to anyone who walks in, Not a terrible experience since I like to be left alone to deliberate on something like paint, but if you’re looking for help wouldn’t go here.

I’ve bought pant here a few times for home projects. I go in pretty much knowing what I need, so I don’t need ask too many questions. They have a good selection of paint brands and other supplies.

I had an excellent experience at the store. I was in and out and the staff was friendly. I don’t know what these other reviews are taking about. It’s definitely pricier than all other paint store brands. Go for the BEN brand. It’s abt $ 10 cheaper than the other Benjamin M cans in this store.

Don’t bother going unless you need enough paint to paint a house because they can’t be bothered. After standing there for 10 minutes, I finally got the attention of someone to ask about a quart of orange paint. The Latino guy was really nice and helpful but got caught up with someone else as I looked at colors. So I got passed over to a tall black guy who couldn’t be bothered with me and concentrated more on his short patronizing answers. Needless to say they made the sale because I needed the paint but I will definitely make provisions next time so I don’t have to go back there. The funny thing is I’m painting a church and this was just for one door.

worst customer service. the store is pretty from the outside and I went in to get Benjamin Moore paint on my way to another store that held it, but I walked in because it looked nice. The saleswoman was so ridiculously rude and obnoxious. She answers your questions with a complete attitude. I asked for very general information and she responds as if you’re stupid. I do not understand sales people that are rude and inconsiderate, since their job is to deal with people. There are so many reviews here with bad service, and they are very, very right! Do not go here if you’re looking to work with nice people.

I had the same rude and completely horrible customer service experience as other reviewers have commented. I get it, it’s a paint store and it is a very simple product and commodity to market and sell. However, when trying to get a price the store’s computer systems went down and we paid in cash to pick up the receipt later. No problem at all, things happen. I come back later to collect the receipt and on a whim I asked to change to credit card. Shouldn’t be a big problem right? Nope, can’t do it. The sales associate then tells me they went out of their way to take my cash earlier to complete the sale while THEIR system was down. He tried to explain how it would mess up THEIR side of the transaction. Again, I get it things happen, but there was zero accountability for their issues and attempt to be customer oriented. The sales associate had to get the last word in and told me I could find another store next time. Well, with that attitude I will be sure to take my business elsewhere and warn others to do the same.

Don’t even bother coming in. 6 – 7 employees standing around, not one offering to help as we had to keep walking over to ask about something and then walk back to the products to figure things out. They don’t care and they won’t help. Terrible service.

I have never had a retail employee been so senselessly rude to me in my entire life. I’m having my living room painted, so I called in an order this morning for a test pint of Benjamin Moore paint so I could preview it before committing. I paid for it over the phone, so all I had to do was pick up a bag.
I stopped by tonight after work, and approached the man at the counter to pick it up. I told him I was picking up some paint, and he just stared at me and didn’t say anything. I gave him my last name (Hint: Big Mistake). He then turned around, still wordlessly, and started looking among the small bags of paint littered on the floor awaiting pickup.
I saw «Meghan» written on the bag, and pointed it out to the employee. He snarled, «It would help if you gave me the right name. You gave me the wrong name, how am I supposed to know.» Really? I didn’t write Meghan on the bag, your coworker did. Then he finished it up with «and by the way, I was helping someone else, but uh, he walked away so.» You are behind the counter, I asked you for help, this is your job, just hand me the effing bag.
I can’t believe someone would have SUCH a shitty attitude towards a customer who just literally needed to pick up a bag, and then leave the store.

I’ve walked in here more than once, both times no one has really bothered to say anything to me. This second time, the two workers were having an argument/​unprofessional side conversation and could care less about my needs. In addition, they were giving me a very condescending tone as I looked at fabric, «oh, that’s not wallpaper», (since I said I was looking for wallpaper), oh I’m sorry I guess me touching other items and possibly giving you other sorts of commission bothered you.
Hilarious. Read the other reviews.
Don’t go here. I would rather support businesses that respected their clientele. As I exited the store, a gentleman was texting while making eye contact with me. I guess a «have a great day», would have made his job more difficult.

Quality paint and huge choice, beautiful display of different collections. Customer service is quite inexistent. I am clueless about painting and wanted some advice on colors as I wanted to match the walls color of a picture, well you have to figure it out by yourself. It seems that there is a color expert but he/​she works only wednesday through saturday so you need to make yourself available if you need that service. I am a bit dissapointed. The colors we ve chosen turned out ok I guess but expected better service for the price.

Literally worst place in the world. Not wrote a Unilocal review in over 2 years … This place prompted me to. Horrible horrible customer service. Just watched them give total attitude to a heavily pregnant lady and an elderly couple. Beyond unhelpful and speaking to me like a total idiot. Please avoid at all costs.

I was there in the middle of the week around noon, too many contractors were there.
There was no one who could help me and show me where to get what I needed.
This place is good for take what you need by yourself pay and leave.
Do not expect someone will help you to design your apartment

The woman in the paint area is really helpful and informative. The male cashier treated me like garbage and make fun of me, and my questions.

Staffs there some are helpful, some are not. The ones I spoke to the last time was disappointing. When appointed as a Pantone paint store by the Pantone company, the staff I talked to told me they can’t match the paint color I want with Pantone color. What? And the next one I deal with, she was too busy talking to her dearest on the phone, left me waiting for a long time, and handed me a card and told me to go a place to find my Pantone color. And I went. And the store was closed and moved.
Are these people retarded or what?

I have done a lot of painting and this has to be the worst paint store I have ever used. I was told the sample i had purchased couldn’t be blended with the regular wall paint, which means once i had decided on the color, the rest of the sample pint was just wasted. The paint itself separated quickly and the overall quality of the regal paint I was sent home with was sub-​par. It took three coats to get an even look.
It was also VERY expensive. It strikes me as a store for wholesale work – not the general public.
Too, I was sent home without stirrers – not a big deal, but representative of the general experience.
I will take my business elsewhere.

I recently complained about the (window treatment) service at the 23^rd St. store and with Janovic’s customer service representatives not calling me back. After emailing Benjamin Moore, which owns Janovic, I received prompt and courteous attention from their General Manager. My issue has been addressed to my satisfaction and I also had a terrific salesperson at the 23^rd St. store. However, she only works there one day a week. Tuesdays.

It’s a spacious store, with everything a painter needs. The paint chips (mostly Benjamin Moore, but some other quality brands as well) are plentiful and housed in an area where you can study them under different kinds of lighting. They’ll match colors if you want something original, and they’ll mix custom colors while you wait. (They no longer have the 2 ounce sample sizes; you’ve got to buy a quart now.)
The quality of the supplies is good, but you’ll pay for it. This is not the place for dirt-​cheap brushes for your one-​time job.
Some employees are very helpful (the lady in the paint zone, notably), and some are impatient with anyone who seems clueless.
You can also design custom window treatments here. Again, not cheap. Salespeople always seem busy, usually a good sign, but be cautious. Get advice from an outside source before buying.
(I’m still smarting over the pricey, impossible-​to-​clean shades I bought from the old location. I was assured that they would come with blackout linings, but they didn’t. By the time I realized that, they were installed. Why am I still cranky after all this time? Maybe because I’ve been waking up at the crack of dawn for the past month.)

Brand new location for Janovic Paint & Decorating Center. They used to be located up on 88^th and 3^rd so it was a bit closer to my home, but this is not too far off. The new shop seems a bit larger and still carries an ample supply of paints and home improvement supplies like tape, rollers, brushes, drop clothes, paint, solvents, tools, etc.
I chatted with the guys working there for a few minutes to get some ideas on some changes I want to make to our apartment and looked around to see what they had in stock. It’s pretty much the same place as the last location in a shiny new storefront. Worth it if you want to stay local rather than schlepping downtown to a Home Depot or other store. Just be sure to get there at least an hour before closing as they won’t mix paint near end of day, or call in to find out the latest you can pick it up.

I tend to go through phases where my «caveman» do it yourself instincts kick in, and then it usually ends up with a trip to the hardware store or paint shop. When I put on my painting gear I hit Janovic. Terrific store close to home here on the UES that has everything you need from small to large jobs.
There is a room set up inside that houses an infinite number of color swatches. There are seriously thousands of them, and many that I never knew existed in the color rainbow. The guys who work the store can help you mix and match paints to get the color you want. They can be a bit ornery but are polite enough. As I had a past job in home improvements I like the fact that I can pick up everything here that I need in one place — tape, rollers, brushes, drop clothes, paint, solvents, tools, etc.
They also carry an extensive selection of window treatments and blinds. Someone can help you pick out what you need, and have it installed it for you. As this is a local store prices are a bit higher, but not too bad. You will spend more going downtown and back, and waste time running around to KMart or Home Depot, while this shop is close by.
