Likes to close in the middle of the day for long periods of time. Says they’ll be back at one time yet there are customers waiting outside in the rain 20+ minutes after their posted return time.

The WORST dry cleaner I have ever been too. Took two, $ 60 shirts here to be dry cleaned. First time they came back, they were still covered in stains. They looked like they had been pressed but not cleaned at all. I told him it was unacceptable and he had to send it back and redo it (after he refused to give me my money back). The shirts came back two days later with no stains, but with HOLES in them. One hole was directly in the middle of the shirt. When I showed them to him, he laughed and said that the shirts «were probably old» (WHICH THEY ARE NOT). He has refused to reimburse me for the shirts or refund me the dry cleaning costs. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. He has not heard the end of me. WHAT A CROOK.

Absolutely awful service. Joe is a decent tailor, but he’s also aloof and lazy. As for the dry cleaning services, I recommend going anywhere but here. After 4+ years of giving Joe my tailoring business, I brought in a day-​old black perforated leather skirt with a brightly colored lining and asked that he spot clean a stain on the lining where some soup had leaked on me. Not only did he charge $ 65 for that and a basic blouse (seriously!) but it is now a month later and he still has the skirt. Apparently, after not listening to my directions about spot cleaning the lining, he sent the skirt to his «leather guy» who he described to me as «old and lazy» and who proceeded to clean the leather right on top of the lining, even though the two layers are easy to separate, so that the black dye from the leather turned the entire lining a murky gray; since the lining is a visible part of the skirt, it’s effectively ruined. I have been into the store and called at least six times and at this point I am seeking a full refund for the skirt which he still hasn’t returned to me. Worse yet is that every time I complain about how long he’s had the skirt, he just shrugs and giggles. Time to retire, buddy.
UPDATE: Received my skirt back today (⁷⁄₁₀) with the lining stained even worse than before! Joe refused to take any responsibility and wouldn’t even refund me the $ 35 I paid him upfront for cleaning. I told him he was leaving me no choice but to file a small claim, and he expressed that he did not care. Guess we’ll be seeing each other again in court.

What about the $ 1.6 listed rate for what they call ‘dry-​cleaned’ shirt? Is it really dry cleaned? How comes if 3x cheaper than anywhere else around?
Joe is definitely a random guy. Half of the times I go there, there is a story going on about something which wasn’t done properly, something which was lost,… I guess they just have a good location and aggressive pricing

Joe is fantastic, I’ve brought him dry cleaning & alterations several times and every time he’s fast and precise. He might not be warm & fuzzy but he knows how to treat your clothes and he does a spectacular job with alterations of all kinds. I had a corset top dress and he was able to take it in without the slightest bit of evidence and my boyfriend had an entire suit tailored, it looks made-​to-​measure now, he’s a treasure. Truly an amazing find.

PLEASE! DO NOT GO HERE! ! ! I have never been to a more over price dry cleaner /​tailor in my life! I was charged $ 195 for a single alternation for a suit that was done improperly! PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Definitely would not be my first choice for dry cleaning and I would advise against going here for tailoring or alterations after a recent experience here. While Joe is a friendly guy, he’s also incredibly absent-​minded … not something you want when you’re waiting for him to find your $ 300 bridesmaid dress or newly hemmed jeans.
I should have been suspicious when I dropped off my bundle of clothes and he looked confused about what to do with them. I asked him to repair a tear in some new jeans and he kept marking them to be dry cleaned. After the third ticket, finally the correctly labeled fix, I reluctantly left. There was no phone call or date given when they’d be ready but returning a week later I was met with more confusion in the face of my tickets. I stood for 20 minutes as Joe proceeded to look at every single item of clothing hanging from the line. I literally had to point them out even though he was holding numbered tickets. Finally clutching my clothes I was read the final cost, considerably higher despite the lower quality of service than the normal French Dry Clean I go to in the East Village. Especially when the seam tear in my jeans was such a visibly sloppy repair.

Quite pricey ($ 30 to get the shoulders in a dress taken in) but good work.

I have been to Joe’s Custom Tailors a couple times now for basic tailoring jobs such as hemming and zipper repair, and I have been happy with his skill and service. I have had several BAD tailoring experiences since moving to NYC, so I’m at a point where I can really appreciate a reliable tailor — I don’t need anything fancy, just do what I ask you to do and have it done on time.
I purchased a new business suit and needed the pants hemmed at the last minute — I had to pick them up the morning of my interview, so I was more nervous than usual that something might go wrong. I brought them in on a Tuesday evening, and had to pick them up first thing in the morning on Thursday. When I walked in to pick up my pants, he instantly recognized me, stopped what he was doing, and quickly rang up the pants, which were hanging right next to the register, ready to go. He also did a great job on the hem. Basic customer service goes a long way! He made my morning. I plan to keep going back.

Was very pleased originally and gave a glowing review, but 1 star for their laundry service. We saw that the scale clearly said 16.1 lbs and he charged us for 17. He’s also more expensive than other laundries in the neighborhood. He sends out the laundry so it takes twice as long to get back. Also 1 star because although the craftsmanship is good, he always hems pants too short, even when I told him I prefer them longer. My fault for continuing to go there.

So I read the reviews and went to check this guy out. Fact: he’s a little pricey. Another Fact: he’s also the shit. Seriously.
Joe fixed my two little black dresses– they fit perfectly now (which as you ladies know, those little black dresses need to be on point). Turn around time was super fast, but he clearly didn’t rush the job, because the craftsmanship is excellent. As far as I’m concerned I don’t see the point in paying good money for nice clothes and then turning around and having some clown f*ck them up with bad stitching. Go to Joe.

I’ve had a couple good experiences on simple things like hems, but for several shirts I had tailored, some of the sleeves were actually different from the right arm to left by at least an inch! I actually had to throw out a couple of shirts because they were ruined.
I’ve also come here a few times and had my alterations not ready until a week after the promised date. I left my phone number and didn’t even get a call to say that the clothes would be late.

I had expensive suit pants hemmed there. The workmanship was good and the turn around time was as promised. However the overweight gentlemen at counter was not at all pleasant during drop off and pickup. I would suggest a little customer appreciation!

I have been on the fence about this place, but out of convenience I have gone here intermittently for years. My last two experiences will be putting an end to that. I dropped off a dress that had been misshapen by a bad hanger. I was explicit about what I wanted and even asked if it was too complicated. After picking it up, I had to return because I wasn’t even sure that anything had been done. After putting it on and discussing what I (originally) wanted, he tried to charge me a second time. After further discussion, he backed down saying something about how I’ve been a good customer.
Last week I dropped off two dress. One required work but the other involved shortening two less than one inch wide silk straps. He charged $ 20 for the latter and set a pick-​up date five days later. Sorry but $ 20 for something I could have done by hand (let alone with a sewing machine) in fewer than five minutes is a bit exorbitant. Sadly, on one side the widths of the straps don’t even match up. For the prices, turn around time, and occasionally bad work, I won’t be returning.

Got a pair of jeans hemmed here — Joe did a fine job, was very quick (ready the next business day) and was very nice. Just wish this place was open on Sundays!

I got a suit tailored by Joe, and it was $ 100 for standard work. I’m not particularly fat or thin, the fit did not seem that great after he tailored it. It was not bad enough to get it re-​done, but not good enough to revisit, especially when your average dry cleaner would do similar (or better) work for half as much. Also, Joe needs to cut out those carbs!

Unlike many other alterations places in the area, Joe has a one-​day turnaround for most of his tailoring work, which can be a lifesaver if you realize you need something done FAST.
On the other hand… the prices are a little high — $ 15 for basic hems. If you’re only taking in a regular pair of jeans to get hemmed and don’t have a tight deadline, there are definitely other places that do a similar job for less.
His workmanship is definitely great, though. If you’re making alterations to a dress or suit — anything more complicated than just chopping a few inches off some pants, really — and want to make sure it’s done right, going to Joe is worth the extra $ 5 or $ 10!
