My boyfriend and I love this place. Amazing coffee and totally unpretentious. Cute little shop run by a good dude.

This is a great little coffee house that just opened up next door to my groomer; I happened in there yesterday while I was waiting for my dog to be groomed. They have the usual coffee offerings, and they’re well-brewed, well-made single-source; but the standout for me has been the homemade vegan cakes. Only $ 4 a slice for pumpkin cake! Yes please!

Very low key place, all about the coffee which is fine when you do it that good. Keep some of the bitter in their flat white rather than drowning with milk, so loved it.

Best coffee in the east village hands down. I always get an almond milk cappuccino, but everything here is great. The banana chocolate cake is moist & tasty too. I dropped 9th street espresso in favor of this place & haven’t looked back.

Delish, freshly roasted good service. He put a little heart on mine and had almond milk which not many shops do

Great quality coffee. Made my redeye 5 days in a row and spoke to me… uh…zero days. I know, I know… that’s an American thing. It’s just funny to me. Also thank you for having raw sugar. And I like the physical space — quite beautiful simplicity in design.

:)). Abraço is my favorite for drip. This guy rocks anything espresso. Very medium roasty. Not much of a place to sit.

This is the place to get freshly roasted beans in the area. Tom really knows what he’s doing and the prices for a bag are pretty similar to all the other high end coffee shops. I don’t actually know of any other independent shop operation that roasts, sells, and does a great job as a friendly place to get coffee. Try it!

this place is awesome. Each cup made individually. I haven’t had better coffee in New York

Kamakura has quickly become part of my daily morning coffee routine. Coffee is made to order and perfect every time. The flavor is rich and complex put them up against any coffee head joint! Love the low key and understated vibe. Who needs a whole scene at 8am? Such a great addition to the neighborhood, highly highly recommend.

Pretty much a regular here now for the excellent house coffee, which is a daily varying blend. No other coffee place in the East Village really does it for me. Coffee that will prevent you from exposing yourself to its mediocre variants.

Fantastic new coffee spot in the East Village. Big, homey vibe in a small space. The coffee is made to order, the vegan treats are delicious and Tom, the proprietor, is a good dude.

In house roasted coffee, single brew style. Delicious. I just returned from Paris and couldn’t stop drinking the espresso. Normally I’m a latte girl. Kamakura’s espresso was just as smooth and rich with no bitterness. Regular coffees and mochas are good too.

Great coffee from beans roasted in house and ground to order; what more could you ask for. The space is clean with high ceilings and exposed brick all accented by the smell of roasted coffee beans in the air. Definitely more of a grab and go type spot unless you snag one of the two stools up front. A welcome addition to the neighborhood for sure.

A new espresso shop on a quiet stretch of 5th St. Quality espresso and great vegan baked goods. We had macchiato, mocha, and choco-banana bread.

Nice new neighborhood coffee shop just opened Monday this week. Obviously from the japanese barista and japanese name … its a japanese coffee shop, duh. No tables, no chairs, just a counter at the window. Typical menu of espresso drinks. Plus matcha green tea latte! Yay! Nice silver Marzocco GB/5 espresso machine. You know, the one with the lions on the corners. Very friendly staff, had a nice chat. Nice addition to the neighborhood.
