Lomography Gallery Store

So my last review was for printing service. Prior to today I would have given this place a decent customer service review. Not anymore. The guy working there today had a poor attitude and was not very helpful. I asked about films and he just pointed at a table and said he wasn’t sure if they had any slide film. Rather than help me find some or even feign interest in learning whether they did or did not, he simply kept playing on the computer. I did find some and told me 5 for the expired roll of 120. Then he said it was 7. So I decided to go with their box, which was overpriced, but I figured «hey, it’s not expired and each roll ends up being a dollar more.» Ao I bought it, but on my way out I decided to check the expiration date. Turns out, it was a year past the exp date. I immediately went back and found that EVERY BOX they had on display was expired. Rather than help me, the guy stood there while I looked through their stock stored behind the shelf to find some that wasn’t expired. To which the sales guy said in a patronizing tone, «you ok there, buddy?» Yeah… buddy…chief…I’m ok no thanks to you. Don’t make the mistake I did. Check the expiration dates.

Went to the store yesterday to look around and buy some film for my next trip. The staff there was extremely rude and seemed to have no interest in making a sale. They had more interest with their phones. Being a new film photographer, I was asking random questions about film photography. The workers response was to ignore me and even make looks at me. I also was asking about one of their products I have, for me it seems like I set it up wrong and asked if I could bring it over for them to look at. The response was again ignore me and making looks. A female customer came in to ask about their times for the day and the worker aggressively mumbled their times. I noticed that the woman was very disgusted by his attitude and walked out. The thing that made me really dislike my experience was when another customer came into the store. This customer stated that they were new to the company. They were greeted by so nicely, and the workers were so attentive. The customer was asking the same questions I was asking, and the workers were answering them in great detail. This customer was male. I just have this vibe that they are sexist. I have never had an experience like this before and I’m truly appalled. I’m not sure if I will ever come back to the store again. Lomography needs to teach their employees to treat everyone with respect.

Really LAMEography …
Used to buy a lot of film from them, especially the expired Velvias. Everything way overpriced. Few days back I am in desperate need of film so I end up buying from them some Ilford Delta 3200 120s for $ 10 a roll. No batch nor student discount. I am getting 10% student discount at Adorama where the roll costs $ 5.90 PRIOR to discount. Or BH has it for $ 5.99.
Five years back I gave up on them as they lost a film I processed with them and denied they did. Eight months later someone called and said, «hey we found the low-​res scans and 4×6 prints but no roll. you never came to pick up your order.»…
I found out they used CRC Labs for developing film and I switched to them right away, I have never had anything lost there and at this point I am well into hundreds of rolls processed there.

They reprinted my batch photos. Good service. Pricey goods, otherwise.

The people there are awesome. So is the music. And the cameras.

Friendly staff & good range of 120 film available, but the processing is awful. Dirty chemicals, lint and dust everywhere. Sure, lomography is about happy accidents, but that’s supposed to be in the camera, not the darkroom. Also, the prints are digital-​no real contact sheets. Buy film here, enjoy their selection of equipment, but send your filim elsewhere for developing or do it yourself.

cool shop for cameras, if you love photography or lomography you’ll love this place! I came here to pick out a gift for my friend’s birthday and the staff was really friendly and helpful, answering all my random questions and explaining the functions of each camera. I’ve bought at least 4 cameras from this place already and I think I’ll be going back soon to check out some other ones, just wish I can have them all!

I at least got a good laugh and story after visiting this store.
After walking around the store for a good 20 minutes, I went up to the register and bought a couple little things. The girl at the counter mentioned this mini rolleiflex I was carrying. I was like, «Yeah, it was a gift. It’s just a mini digital rolli. It’s fun.» She then replied, «Oh, so it’s like you’re pretending.» Ohhh, I tried to like this store and be okay with the «chilled out» vibe of the staff, but I was left speechless. But, again, definitely got a good laugh out of her pretentiousness. But, no, I will not be back to spend money in the overpriced store.

I was looking for a place to develop the single use camera I bought at the CVS in the area since they did not. After trying to unsuccessfully to locate a pharmacy in the area that would do it, I made a few phone calls. This one happened to be in the neighborhood and opened on Sunday which was good. I called ahead and asked about pricing so there would be no surprises.
On Sunday afternoon I came in to drop off the camera. I had already decided how many prints and whether I wanted a CD. What I did not know was that there would be a choice between glossy and matte finishes. I knew my mother, who the pictures were for, would prefer the glossy ones since those are the prints she is used to.
I was told they would be ready Monday afternoon. Since I would not be back near the are until Thursday at the earliest I asked how long it would be held for. They said 30 days. They did want all the money upfront though, which was the only part I did not like. BUT I paid anyway since the pictures needed to be developed.
My mom had decided she wanted to pick up the pictures on Wednesday. On Tuesday I called to verify that she could pick them up and was told once again, as I was told in the store on Sunday, that as long as the person has the slip they can pick it up. When she went to pick it up, there was no issue.

My boyfriend and I came here for a lomography workshop (he’s a freelance photographer who mostly works digital and I’m a photography noob) and we were pleasantly surprised that we would be using the Belair cameras, which are more expensive and more technical than normal lomography «toy» cameras. The employee teaching the workshop, though a bit monotone and kind of blasee, was very informative and very nice, esp after the workshop when I asked his thoughts and recommendation on lomography cameras for beginners. I have been interested in lomography in over a year and this was my first chance to work with some cameras firsthand and came into the store knowing I would leave with a camera. He was very patient with me and gave me great recommendations for what I wanted. I walked out with a diana mini and three rolls of film. I’ve read some reviews that the products in store are marked up, but I don’t mind. It’s either I get it right away at the store, or wait a couple days and pay for shipping, which makes means I ultimately pay the same anyway. All in all, it was a great experience. The only downside is that the price of developing wasn’t included in the workshop package. So I was really shocked to see an extra $ 16 on my charge after I bought the camera. And we only needed 8 shots printed (120 film). So expensive. I highly recommend trying one of the workshops if you’re new to lomography. Though I will probably be looking for other places for buying film and developing my photos.

Edit: it took a couple days for our photos to develop, when my boyfriend finally got to pick them up, the guy there forgot to print doubles for us (so my bf and I can have our own copies), which we paid an extra $ 2 for. Even though the guy printed it really quickly for my boyfriend on the spot, it was still kind of annoying for him to wait another 10 minutes when he just wants to take the commute home.

The cutest cameras are sold her. I was amazed by all the cool looking styles they had. From diva, retro, blinged out to norm. I went on a day they had an event so I was able to paint my own tshirt. Quite fun and interesting. Prices were reasonable.

I have not visited the store personally, but their customer service department is really slow. I have been trying to get in touch with them over phone regarding the warranty status of a camera I purchased online, but guess what. tough luck! You will never reach the operator or the customer support staff. The call gets routed to the answering machine by default, and if the answering machine is full, then simply hang up and try your luck later!
The staff is equally slow in responding to emails. The trick to reach them is to call the Gallery Store in NY and then ask them to connect you to support staff. I mentioned my problem and my efforts in trying to reach out and guess what.’ no apologies ‘!

I needed film, and advice on loading my old plastic Holga art school camera. I ran into this west village store on accident that almost presents itself as an art gallery. Indeed the display of cameras, plastic 33 mm style, ranged from $ 35 to $ 75 for super cool gadgets.
The counter guy helped me buy film and loaded my camera for me. They also process film there, which can probably lead to more cool projects.
When my niece gets old enough I can give her one, but maybe buy it now so it’s kinda vintage.
When I loaded the film into my quirky plastic camera, as I rolled my film the view finder scrolled «DON’T THINK — SHOOT «.

This company doesn’t seem to care about their employees. And so the employees don’t care about us as well.
I went to this lomo — the very last one in the america, five times and only had one good customer service. They are either indifferent or just seem bothered. I really want Lomo to keep going but the service is disappointing and I don’t even want to bring my friends there ever again.
Come on Lomo, love your employees and give them some raise!

This place is awesome! I found Lomography through a Groupon ($ 20 for $ 50 store credit) and when I got there, Bonnie walked me through everything. She gave me a rundown of the cameras they carried, listened to what I needed, taught me about what films would be best for me (mostly night-​time, indoor shots) and showed me the films they had. I don’t really know anything about photography and probably sounded like an idiot but she was very encouraging and patient with me. Also, she’s not the exception, she’s the norm. All the associates there are very helpful about explaining the different functions and cameras to anything who wants to listen.
The second time I visited, I needed to get my film processed and I needed help figuring out how to get my film in and out of my camera without ripping the sprockets. As before, she was super patient with me. Yeah, they’re a little pricey, but I think the outstanding dedication to customer service warrants it. I haven’t gotten the prints yet and I’ll update when I do, but I’m sure they’ll be great.

Very cool store. They have a wide selection of cameras and add-​ons, and pretty much one of everything is out and available to pick up and handle before you buy. You’re not just going to find Holgas and Dianas here, not to mention that the space is nicely laid out and well-​decorated with rows and rows of prints.
They sell film, develop film, and have classes (the one being advertised was how to create the bokeh effect, and I really wish I lived in New York so I could attend). The staff was super helpful and personable. Anyone should be pleased to have a resource like this in their neighborhood.

The associates are very nice for starters. I do like the layout of the store itself.
I also do love the job they do with developing. It usually comes in a really nice box, and the prints are really good. If you shoot a roll for a special occasion it would make a really nice gift with some wrapping paper.
The scans are ok, but I think you can do a better job at home with a decent scanner and a little photoshop (two stars for developing)
However I do think they are a bit overpriced. The camera’s are fun and could be interesting tools for serious photographers (I’ve seen some amazing work with the Holga)
I could forgive most of it because they are the only ones around that sell new LC-A’s. Plus I really do like that they’re keeping film alive (I love the LC-​A, and keeping film alive earned them the extra star).
But, the film prices are criminal. I find they’re double regular market price and most of them are expired. I would say pick up the LC-​A there, if you have the extra scratch develop there. But if you want film, walk the few extra blocks to Adorama and pick it up for much cheaper.

Very cool store. I definitely must stop by every time I’m in the area.
I never had a problem with the staff here.
This past Wednesday, I went on the Wild Safari trip with the store to the Bronx Zoo and that was pretty fun. Staff members Jess & George were very helpful, engaging and fun to talk to. I borrowed a Diana camera for the trip and George showed me how to load the camera before we left the store. The Diana was free to borrow, the film wasn’t, so have that in mind if you go to an event. The trip was well worth it though. Definitely had fun at the zoo. My brother borrowed a fisheye camera and that was pretty neat too. The store holds a couple of events and workshops, if you’re interested you should just stop by the store to find out about them, go on their website or follow their twitter.
This is definitely a cool place to check out. You can take a look at different cameras. They’re all out for display. I have a Holga and I like to come here and check out what modifications have been made or what new accessories are available. There so many other cool cameras too check out too. The film and film development is a bit pricey here. I have never had film developed here for that reason, so I can’t really tell you about the quality, but I have heard good things.
The walls of the store are awesomely decorated with photos. You’ll see them in the entrance, at the back by the staircase and on the second floor. The second floor is a cool place to sit and peruse lomo books and magazines. There’s a few comfortable couches and chairs there.
If you never been to the lomo store definitely stop by. I’m glad I was introduced to this place.

I don’t know much about Lomography but browsing through this awesome store made me want to learn more about it.
Things I liked about this store:
1. All the photographs on the wall. They were very colorful and made the store look more fun! I would love to have that in my apt.
2. They have a comfortable couch area where you can sit and read about Lomography.
3. All the available cameras are right on the table for you to pick up and drool over, not just staring at you in a glass casing.
4. Each camera is placed on a white & clear sticker shaped like the camera.
5. Each camera is accompanied by some photographs taken by that camera.
6. The guy behind the counter was friendly.
7. They were giving away free posters!

UPDATE 2: Today (⁵⁄₁₇) they called to tell me they found my film. Apparently it had been sitting on a shelf right under their nose FOR A MONTH. After all that worry and trouble! Ridiculous. I was just happy to have my vacation film back and didn’t bother claiming the refund or extras they had promised me for my troubles earlier (nor did they bring it up). They assured me that «this never happens» but after such carelessness, I wouldn’t trust them with my film again.
UPDATE: They ended up calling me the day after I wrote my initial review to tell me they would refund me, 5 rolls of film, and my next 5 processing orders on the house, which would have been fine, except I don’t plan on ever getting my film developed there again so I asked for a store credit for the amount of the processing (only valid only lomography products, i was told). Still upset but adding a star for their efforts.
