Long’s Bedding

I’ve now had the new mattress for 8 months. The sagging is less because the entire mattress has settled. I decided to keep the mattress. I can sleep on it.

Long’s is the only place I will ever buy a mattress or box spring again… even if I move to another state! I purchased an Aireloom brand set after receiving unsurpassed customer service from the owner of the store. I learned things that helped me be an informed customer, and after spending about 90 minute discussing the types of mattresses and trying at least 15 sets I chose the Aireloom product and am completely delighted with my new bedding and the entire experience. Retailers like Long’s are an oasis in this world of mass marketing and big box stores. There is no other store in NY that is quite like them.

It was time to buy a new mattress, and I was not having any luck any where. Luckily, I remembered a friend of mine once telling me that he was dating a guy who was so hot that he seemed out of his league. One anecdote my friend casually mentioned a number of times was how this boy would rave about his love for how comfortable my friend’s bed was. Turns out, that bed was from Long’s. On that recommendation, I headed to the dreaded Upper West Side.
The store is definitely no-​frills, sort of a notch or two up from warehouse-​style. But that’s OK. I’m there to spend my money on a mattress, not their interior decorator.
Although Long’s sells itself as sans salespeople, it’s impossible to stay in business without some type of technique. Fortunately, the one at Long’s is low-​key and feels high on honesty, as compared to many of its competitors. I think that technique is strong on their «we’re one store and we’re family-​owned,» and, importantly, have been on the UWS for a «long» (bad pun) time. Maybe I’m wrong, but successfully creating that atmosphere for customers cannot be easy.
The guy at Long’s who helped me, whose name I cannot recall, was not a Long descendant, but he was knowledgeable and the first bedding person I’d worked with who was able to interview me to find out my needs, make sense of the data, and subsequently make a fine mattress diagnosis.
Of the two beds suggested, the less-​expensive mattress handily won my 2-​minute sleep test. The guy helping only pushed me to buy when I began waffling that by spending less perhaps I would miss out on some intangible quality hidden in the pricier mattress. He really did me right. By the way, I bought one of the Long’s line of beds.
Delivery: fast and on time. Mrs. Long is who helped me with that process. Super charming lady.
That was three and a half years ago. This Long’s mattress is by far the best mattress I’ve bought. It really is ideal for my body and the wild ways in which I sleep. I don’t know that I would have found something so right without having visited Long’s. And now I totally understand that since-​departed boyfriend who, in my estimation, seemed to be sleeping with my friend merely to get to my friend’s mattress.
Five stars because I would return here when, if ever, I need a new mattress.

I recently purchased a mattress for my four year old and for the first time in four years, he woke up later than his older brother. That is priceless.
This is our third mattress from Long’s. Service is always exceptional and delivery on time. It is always a pleasure doing business with the Long family.

My family has been buying beds from Longs Bedding in Manhattan since I was a child. Over the years we have collectively bought more than a dozen beds. Each time the service has been excellent; the prices have been competitive; and the beds have been very comfortable.
I would highly recommend Long’s Bedding if you need a mattress, a bed set, a sleep sofa, or even bedding accessories.

I had a very positive experience at Long’s, where I bought my current mattress 1 ½ years ago. It’s super comfortable and it was easy to purchase.
My salesman, not a member of the Long family, listened to what I needed and then gave me several mattresses to choose from. (Lying down on mattresses in a store is weird, btw, but you only do it a few times in your life). I took as much time as I needed and then narrowed it down to two; I was about to pick the firmer one, but he wisely advised me to take the one that my body liked better, so I went with the slightly softer model and have no regrets. It’s one of the smaller brands, Thereapedic, and a traditional innerspring model, which is what I wanted. They did offer me memory foam, but I like the feel of the old kind better.
The mattress was delivered on time, and it’s very comfortable, I sleep much better now than I did on its predecessor.
The store is very old-​fashioned, which is fine with me. I like buying from a neighborhood, family-​run store, and I have the feeling that if I should need to avail myself of the guarantee, I’ll be able to get it.
Four stars instead of five because it wasn’t cheap — about $ 1,100. But you get what you pay for, and if it lasts 15 – 20 years, it will have been a bargain.

The store itself is dirty, and the «customer service» is horrendous. While shopping for new furniture, I stopped in here on a few occasions. Each time there were multiple employees sleeping on the floor. Both times the same front-​of-​house woman just couldn’t be bothered, playing Farm Town on Facebook, instead of offering any assistance. No thank you.

Nice people, knowledgeable, not trying to railroad you into an overpriced purchase. Excellent customer service.

Despite all appearances to the contrary, they really still are mattress salesmen *sigh* how I wish there was a branch of European Sleep Works on the East coast. They’ll try to sell you on the fact that they carry small brands (maybe to appeal to your bohemian sensibilities, i dunno), which have little coverage on the web so it’s hard to check (try finding online reviews for Aireloom or Therapedic for example). Hence, one can’t really speak for these. However, they did rave about Englander mattresses, which had _​really_​bad reviews across the line of both their latex and spring mattresses on
so that was enough to turn me off trusting them on the rest. Also, beware of the pop-​star cronies autographed photos — very effective. If you’re willing to spend about $ 10, 000, they did have some nice ones from Simmons but then you could probably get those discounted from the internet (yes, the don’t discount any of their retail prices). Extra star for at least trying to not appear completely base like the rest of the stores in the city. [Aside: If you’re looking for memory foam, check out the Bergad Isoform. Similar quality to tempurpedic for a fraction of the price. it’s got better online reviews than tempurpedic.]
