Not a review-just an obituary-this place has closed as of 2 weeks ago. Had gone many times and was excellent. Street is being redeveloped so owner who wanted to continue in business lost his lease. Family owned – another quality food place with a bit of history(previously butcher shop) losing out to our crazy obsession with retail. A REALSHAME!!!

This is a really cool spot. I’ve been here twice and after the first visit I was blown away by how good it was. But I just went back recently and it was nowhere near the last time. My first visit was on valentines day last year and it was super busy. They sat us downstairs and everything was decorated. I ordered the filet mignon which was huge and cooked perfectly. Great apps and wine too. We went back again though recently on a Saturday night and it was dead. only a handful of tables and the upstairs wasn’t as nice as down below. My steak was just OK this time, not like I’d remembered.

We didn’t have high expectations based on previous reviews, but were pleased. After a long day of shopping, we wanted something steps from our hotel. They seated us immediately, gave excellent service, and had delicious entrees. The chocolate martini made my night, but I cannot give five stars because of the practically frozen butter provided for the simply«okay» bread.

I saw the other Unilocal reviews and was hopeful that my experience would be closer to the 4star level. It wasn’t as the service was slow, rude and annoying. Another issue is that we received an appetizer that we did not order and were charged. On the bright side a couple of us ordered the halibut special which was good but a small portion.

I didn’t know eggplant could be so delicious! It’s a bit crowded though, not the best dining experience when you have to sit like a pupil in the most straight way

Have dined here many many times over the years. This is a consistent winner in my mind. When I have good friends coming to NYC, I take them to Macelleria! The experience begins with the old NYC cobblestone streets just outside. If you safely navigate the uneven sidewalks and the trendy passersby rushing to/fro the Gansevoort Hotel, you find the welcoming respite of this charming gem. If the gods find fortune in you, the owner Sergio will be there to greet you with his wide and handsome smile. If you can spare the time to converse with him, it will be a second education for you from a truly renaissance gentleman. OK, the food. I’ve had numerous dishes: meats, fishes, pastas. All excellently prepared. Portions are perfect, if not generous. Wine list is current and thorough. Staff has always treated me like a king! I and my gusts never leave without a full stomach, a smile on our face, and great memories. There is a downstairs«cellar» of a room, clad in red bricks reminiscent of NYC at the turn of last century. The watercolor painting adorning the walls are the handiwork of Sergio himself. It’s clear to anyone the love and passion this man has for this charming establishment. Excellent for friendly, profession, family, and romantic meals. And get ready to spot celebrities sitting by your side.

Review for ambiance and drinks and coffee at the bar. We stopped by here after the thanksgiving parade and walking the highline. This is the second time I’ve been here, both times just at the bar — a refreshing cozy change from many of the more trendy scene-y places I used to go in meatpacking when I first moved to the city. The hostess and bartenders were friendly and Fabio the bartender was so nice and attentive — even read my mind that I could use a Bloody Mary over a coffee after a long few hours of walking — I noticed some people at the bar drinking perfect looking bloody Mary’s and opted for that — I am not a big Bloody Mary drinker but it was perfectly made presented and had just the right amount of spice. I definitely want to go back for dinner here; it seems great for a restaurant to go with family, friends, colleagues or a date.

Absolute clusterf**k of a rolling train wreck. Here’s why: Opentable reservation for 130pm Arrive early(115pm or so) but we were seated right away — the place was very full and very busy Waiter comes by about 10 minutes later and take our orders for coffee and food And we wait. And wait. And wait some more. We amuse ourselves making fun of the desperate cougars hurting for validation. We flag down the maitre d’ as all of the wait staff seem to have disappeared, and ask about our coffee(145pm or so) — she goes to check and let’s us know that they are brewing a fresh pot. Past 2pm we see people who were there before us only now getting their food. We look around the room and notice people are pissed off and ready to incite a riot or are just leaving without getting their food. We decide to cut our losses — ask for the check to pay for our coffee and then we see wait staff streaming out of the kitchen to tell the maitre d’ that nothing is ready. We get comped on the coffee, we wasted around an hour of our weekend. We look forward to seeing the next restaurant move into the space, sometime within the next 6 – 9 months.

This place is a complete mystery to me. In a Midwestern town, they would be a run-of-the-mill Italian restaurant. In New York it is barely worth a mention. I stopped by tonight because they have a serviceable carbonara and my brother, who is visiting, was hungry as we passed by. It’s a Thursday night in NYC, 10pm and they tell us that the kitchen is closed. Never mind the fact that the place is half full and every restaurant nearby is still readily serving. This is typical behavior for this place. They weirdly act like they can be picky and turn people away clearly under false pretenses and for no reason. Skip this place – there are so many better choices in terms of quality and service.

Went there last night as it was a beautiful evening in Manhattan. Sat outside at a table for two and people watched. As an appetizer, I ordered the calamerreti grilled. It was fantastic. As an entrée, PACCHERI, HOUSE-MADEGARLIC, SAGESAUSAGE, BROCCOLIDIRAPE, RICOTTASALATA (Sorry…copy/paste job). This was outstanding. Perhaps one of the best entrées I have ever had. The service was solid. For example, my wife didn’t like the glass of Chardonnay so they replaced it with a different type of wine. The bread came with butter however I recommend asking them for oil. The bread when dipped in oil and salt was really good. I also used the oil for my appetizer.

Great food and vibe at this Meat Packing Gem I have been to this restaurant maybe 15 times in the past 5 years. Everything on the menu is great. The pork chop with apples is fantastic. It’s a steak house and they are great. Also the pastas are always winners. Just maybe they could expand the very reasonable wine list a bit. The service is cordial and they don’t rush you out. Don’t expect to be finished in a half an hour, you can’t rush perfection.

Wasn’t a terrible dining experience, but certainly not incredible, either. Marcelleria is pretty typical of Italian-style restaurants in the Meatpacking District – semi-extravagant /dark décor, overpriced, and not crazy tasty, but definitely edible. They get two stars from me because the drinks were pretty strong, but otherwise, the food was just ok. We ordered ravioli and the burrata… neither were generous in-terms of proportion. I tried some of my friends’ steak and it was fine, but again, nothing special. The staff were friendly enough, but I’m pretty sure they were Russian, not Italian. Nothing wrong with it, but the accent threw me off a bit! If you’re in the neighborhood and want something easy in a place that looks somewhat decent, definitely come through. It’s nowhere near as trashy as most of the places in the Meatpacking District. I’d rather give this place 2.5 stars than 2. Not for me though.

I m torn between two and three stars, the food or service is not bad it’s just not good either, and for the price and especially being in Nyc it should be better. We went here because our hotel recommended it, I should have known better and asked Unilocal. We arrived pretty early and the hostess was not very welcoming more indifferent, the place is nice with outdoor seating and a downstairs room. We had beer I have to admit so we disregarded the wine list and I can’t say anything about it. We all had appetizers that were ok, the mozzarella slices on the caprese were insanely huge I found and the blue cheese dressing on my romain dressing was not quite enough for the wedge. I had trout as a main, $ 30 with no sides so I ordered broccolini with it, it was on a menu with polenta breeding to me it seemed more like rolled in corn meal, a whole lot of butter on it. The broccolini were tasty but kinda sad looking and not cooked enough. My friends ate their mains but were not in awe of them. The service was ok but not very professional the servers never knew who ordered what and we were never asked if we would like to drink more, water or beer. Out meal with desert was 198 $ they added a 36 $ service charge? For 3 people? I only know that for bigger parties? Is that a New York thing? Too many good places around here to be back

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend who works in Meatpacking area. I know there are a lot of tourists in the area, but thats still no excuse for a restaurant to treat guests so rudely. This restaurant just lost a regular customer and any future referrals. Hostess was rude. Waitress was even ruder. Took 20 min to get a glass of water and another 20 min to get a beer(and not even the beer I ordered!) After 40 minutes had passed our food STILL hadn’t arrived. We ordered a caprese salad and a burger. Finally we spoke with someone who I assume was a manager who said there was a «computer glitch». Hmmm could someone not have just told the kitchen to put in a burger and a salad? Anyway we ended up leaving without eating after wasting an entire hour here. So disappointed — what a horrible experience. Ten years living in NYC and Ive never left a restaurant without eating the meal I ordered.

The place has what it needs to be a very good restaurant but unfortunately the execution is terrible. Tables are too close to each other, waiters keep hitting you when serving others, it’s very annoying! The service is embarrassing! Food takes just too long and the waiters are rude, especially Freddy who was the first one in my life I did’t tip! Their attitude is of someone who simply don’t care: there is no explanation of the menu, taking the order is like«so…what do you want?»…McDonald’s would serve you much better! Food is not bad, but it’s also not outstanding.

Excellent Italian restaurant, rigatoni meat sauce tasted like home made. It’s was fresh and the sauce was flavorful. The atmosphere was lively and conversation was just right without yelling at people across the table. Excellent service. Waiters were on demand. 5 star.

Had dinner with family last night and all of us had such a fantastic time. All the dishes were yummy and the service was great. We were seated at a nice, big, and wide table, so had plenty of room for all the dishes we ordered and didn’t feel over crowded. The staff were friendly and helpful, so made the evening experience a pleasure. It’s not on the menu, but all the pasta dishes also come in half size order, which is a great deal if you want to try many of the dishes. Tonight, we did just that and tried almost all the pasta dishes. We started with arugula pear salad(simple and refreshing), Beef Carpaccio, and Prosciutto Di Parma Mozzarella di bufala. Enjoyed all the pasta dishes. The table favorite was Linguine Alle Vongole. We also shared couple of T-bone steaks, which were seasoned and cooked perfectly(medium rare). A must have side is Roasted Brussel Sprouts. One of the best I’ve tasted. I wished the portion size was larger. We finished the evening with Tiramisu, so good. A must have dessert. Because it was such a pleasant and enjoyable night, some of the family members were making plans to return to Macelleria. I have dined here many time and always had a pleasant experience. A great spot, during warm weather, to sit outside, people watching(lots of beautiful people in the Meatpacking district) and enjoying a nice dinner.

Eh… That’s what I have to say. Another overpriced Italian restaurant in Manhattan. Surprise, surprise. After walking the Highline I was in the mood for a nice plate of pasta. I saw Macelleria on Open Table(with good reviews too) and noticed they had Spaghetti alla carbonara. I made a 10:30 reservation for 3 and arrived on time. We were sat immediately. Our server, whose name still eludes me, was quite pleasant. She was informative and kind. After perusing the menu, I decided on the Grilled Calamaretti as a starter and, of course, Spaghetti alla Carbonara. I also asked for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine came out almost immediately and it was quite good. I believe it was an Italian SB and had just enough citrusy notes with a clean finish. About 10 minutes later, the calamaretti arrived at the table. It looked to be about 4 calamaretti cut at the tentacles. They were accompanied by a simple spring mix with olive oil and lemon. As far as taste, they were okay. They could’ve used a bit more charring and were a bit too chewy. But decent nonetheless. Not worth the $ 16 price point. After we finished the appetizer, our plates were cleared and the downfall began. It took a good 35 – 40 minutes(no exaggeration) for our food to come out. By that time, my wine was gone and I was hangry. My plate of pasta, priced at $ 20, was quite lackluster. The texture of the spaghetti was good. Al dente as pasta should be. The taste, however, was about as bland as raw pasta. The description claims egg, pancetta, pecorino and black pepper. What I had in front of me was warm heavy cream, undercooked pancetta and maybe a sprinkling of pre-ground black pepper. No egg. No cheese. And no fresh pepper. The taste of carbonara should be rich and intense from the cheese, egg, fresh pepper and crispness of the pancetta that come together to make a great velvety sauce. There should NEVER be cream in a carbonara charged at $ 20. EVER. That’s a cardinal sin. I sent the dish back and asked for the Linguini alle Vongole instead. It came out quickly and tasted great. They were generous with the clams and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The intense garlic flavor worked well with the briny nature of the clams. Thank God. After being in the restaurant much longer than I wanted to and being quite disappointed, I asked for the check. What did I see? Calamaretti charged at $ 18. What did the menu say? $ 16. At that point I was done. I didn’t even complain. I just paid and left… never to return again.

Holy smokes… best lasagna I’ve ever had! It’s made with spinach noodles which not only adds a fun color to the dish, but also adds a nice dimension. It almost seemed lighter than it was and was unlike the heavy brick-like lasagnas elsewhere than sit in your stomach like rocks for hours. Also, the carpaccio rocked my socks. My hubby had never had carpaccio before and this was a great place to have it for the first time. Loved the ambiance of the restaurant, but can’t speak to the crowd. We were the only ones there at 11:00 pm on a Wednesday night. We had gone straight there after our plane landed so we must have missed the normal dinner crowd. We’ll definitely be back to this place for more lasagna! I’d love to try breakfast too!

I had the ricotta ravioli with asparagus and pancetta. It was good. The tiramisu was fantastic. A giant slice of creamy fluffy yumminess. I had their signature cocktail that had blueberries in it and it was a nice balance of boozy and tasty. Service was good. Ambiance was great. They had the walls down so we got fresh air and saw the sun setting. Pretty stereotypical Meatpacking. Went with a group of 6 and everyone enjoyed the meal. (One person in our party was a vegetarian and I believe there were two items that were meat-free.)

Auf Tipp einer New Yorkerin waren wir im Macelleria. Valentinstag 2012 Valentines Dinner.
