Best casual place to grab a beer in the area, if you like a cozy, cave-like, utterly unpretentious place. Feels like a hangout for the locals(which it is). If you go often enough, they will learn your name. Surprisingly not gross ladies room. The people who work here are really nice, very hospitable!

This place is easy to miss and one wouldn’t be missing out if they did. I happened in here with a friend while bar-hopping in the neighborhood. The beer taps were dirty, our beers were disgusting, and the service was bad. Perhaps we were treated differently because we weren’t regulars and thought the beer was bad. Either way, we left after two painful sips and salvaged the night with a more respectable, welcoming place with actual clean taps.

After visiting Central Park recently, my husband and I happened upon this place on our way back to the subway. In speaking with the bartender, we found out that the people who own the bar are 100% Irish. So this place is a genuine Irish bar. It has an old-school feel to it, with dark wooden paneling and the all-wood bar. The service we received was wonderful. Our bartender was a lovely woman who originally hails from New Hampshire. She was very personable and always made sure our glasses were full. The regulars that were in there were very nice to us as well. Our bar bill was reasonable. The next time we’re in New York, we will make sure to stop back at Malachy’s.

A casual dive bar where you can not pay a lot and not talk to anyone. My kinda place.

An excellent old fashioned and authentic«dive bar» in the heart of an impossibly wealthy neighborhood. Simply a jewel of a relic from a long gone Upper West Side era. Fresh draught pints and mixed drinks at very reasonable prices. Very much a locals haunt, but friendly and down to earth types, The occasional hipster Wisconsin/New England type transplants looking to «slum.» Or even the old nostalgic«bridge and tunnel» types like us :) Just a very cool little old time pub in John Lennon’s old neighborhood.

I love this place. The guys that work behind the bar are the nicest people you could ever meet. The regulars are always friendly to people that they just met and anything me or my friends come to this bar we always have a great night. The drinks are very reasonable and the food is good and inexpensive. Its nothing fancy but that is what gives it it’s charm. I wouldn’t want to change a thing from this great little Irish pub.

I often come here for a beer and burger to catch up with a friend. We are both in the area at the same time on certain days and this is a perfect place. If you are looking for something fancy, this is not your place. Not your place at all. This is a dive bar in every sense. Dark, somewhat damp, obvious regulars, ect. I’ve only had the burgers, which are exactly what I’m looking for. In a city of ‘hip’ and over-the-top anything, this burger is exactly not that. And because of that reason, it is AMAZING. No, there isn’t avocado nor kale, so, uh, yeah, it is great. The beers are also what I’m looking for, with that said I do like microbrews, but this isn’t the place for that either. Whiskey+coke, coors lights, nothing fancy. I’m telling you this is what makes it great.

Ended up here on a Sunday afternoon around 4pm & the waitress took our drink orders & we requested the menu so we could order. She forgot our menus & when I received my drink there was something black floating at the bottom of the glass. After informing the waitress she immediately fixed it & after requesting the menus once again we were informed that they ran out of wings. I found that difficult to believe because the place wasn’t packed. Plus isn’t there football games that happen on Sundays? I feel that a sports bar should be prepared during game days, but then again I’m not a sports fan whatsoever so what do I know.

Close to Central Park Malach is a perfect oasis. Full bar cold beers, great sandwich and interesting locals.

Best bar in Manhattan. It’s cheap, and the bartenders, especially Paul, are all awesome. I highly recommend it as a place to hang out and have a few drinks.

I love a good dive bar! It was a «breath of fresh air» after being in all of the other uppity bars I had gone to in New York. I always felt under dressed. Until I came here. All was well, the drinks were pretty strong, the locals were friendly. We even had a local come tell us a joke or two… after about an hour of us being in there the 2 jokes turned into 10 and a lot of touching, then the comic ended up giving my friend(who is probably 30 years younger than him) his hotel room number. Oops. He was sweet though, harmless but really drunk. Then two drunk young men came in and we started to get annoyed because they INSISTED on buying us drinks even though we politely turned them down I don’t know how many times, until I finally had to use my «stern» voice to again turn down the gesture. They said some words to us in a different language, by the look on their faces I know it wasn’t friendly. I informed the waitress, Teresa, and she scoffed at me telling me «They are regulars and harmless, we know them» and gave me a dirty look the entire conversation. Thanks for making me feel welcomed and safe at your bar. Cheers.

This was definitely a dive bar but it was nice to get off the tourist beaten track. Mostly looked like locals here and it was quiet for the most part, but this was the middle of the afternoon. Maybe it gets rowdy later. Someone killed a bug on the bar which ended my good time there. But the the bartender was entertaining. My drink seemed a little watered-down. But it was cheap.

This place is a diamond in the rough for the UWS. You don’t find establishments like this anymore. I appreciate Malachy’s for all that it is and isn’t. This is the kind of place you can come in jeans and a hoodie and just have a few drinks. I have come here a handful of times, but I recently came here on a Sunday after brunch with my girlfriends and the bartender Dorian was such a doll. She was so fun and even gave me a copy of her book titled«Life’s a Bitch… And Then You Get Your Period.» The night time is a little different here than the day time, so I prefer to visit during the day for a solid Sunday Funday. I find the evening bartender to be a little patronizing.

Lincoln Square can be a tough neighborhood to find decent bars where the theatre crowd isn’t. Malachy’s is an easy spot to get to, never too crowded and decent prices.

Got yelled at by old bartender simply trying to get a beer. I wanted beer and wanted to stand at back. Guy yelled at me cauSe he wanted me to have a seat and wouldn’t serve me unless I sat. What am I in grade school? Also they are prejudiced against brown people. Avoid this place like the plague…

I didn’t even get to try the food because the service was horrendous. We went here only because it was near the LOEWS theater. The prices seem cheap but the smell and décor was worst than«dive.» The waitress, older blonde woman, was so rude. I asked for a menu and she gave an attitude. Fifteen minutes passed, and she came back to ask what we wanted. Please note she hasn’t brought a menu yet. Completely rude! All I wanted was some wings and cheese fries :[

The whistle-wetting options near Central Park West are scant, but Unilocal pointed me to this ditty. We were cooling off after the JP Morgan run and so, predictably, were a few dozen other runners due to the proximity of the bar. The staff were game but overwhelmed by the demand(I wonder if they knew there was a huge race that night). But we were able to snag a table eventually and rage for a couple of hours. Drink selection was sub-average, but the place looks good for locals.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years but never went in here. This is the story of how I learned that I was not missing much. Food was decent. Service was abysmal; the waitress had one of the worst attitudes of anyone I’ve encountered at a bar and/or restaurant. She perked up once we paid the check and were on our way out. There are too many places in the area to waste your time with this one.
