I’ve always found the service indifferent in this store. This evening it tipped over to downright rude. I wanted to buy a half bottle of white wine and there was only one choice in the cooler. At $ 20 for a half bottle, I didn’t want to make a mistake. I asked what the wine was like, and the first answer was «it is like wine». (really?)I then asked what grape it was and whether it was dry. I was told it was dry. Of course I am home now and it is a dessert wine. We have many choices of wine store in this neighborhood and they are increasing. I will not be returning to this particular one

Of late, I find the place disorganized and some of the staff surly. They seem imposed upon if you ask for help. I hope things change back to the way they were. The prices seems to be out of whack as well. I have been going there for years and change is needed.

The store are set in a very nice way. Space is given to customer when we just want to browse the wine that we don’t even know which one to drink! They have a lot of type of wine /​liquor to choose with good price as well! Sometime they have wine/​liquor tasting too! Been here for 3 times never disappointed!

I love their friendly, and direct, help: «Here’s exactly what you’re asking for. We can look some more, but this is superb.» Of all the wine cellars in NY that I have patronized, this is my go-​to place for a good selection and knowledegable staff.

Martin Brothers has a varied selection and great prices. Staff was knowledgeable when I asked for help. They are not pushy. The atmosphere is warm and the store is well lighted (important when trying to read the labels or scan shelves for new wines). They have occasional wine tastings and the owners are passionate about wine. Liz the General Manager is particularly well versed in her knowledge of wine.

Word to the wise: do NOT use the Martin Brothers website if you actually expect your wine to be there when you come to pick it up. I ordered a hard-​to-​find bottle on their website as a surprise 30^th birthday gift for a friend. I received a confirmation email. Yet, when I showed up to pick up my bottle, all I got was a blank look and «Oh, we sold all those to someone else.» What?! The owner explained to me that just because I placed my order online, submitted my credit card, and received a confirmation email does not mean they processed the order. Oh, ok, thanks. At the very least, if you no longer have the bottle in stock, then a notification of that would have been nice so that I wouldn’t waste 2 hours trekking back and forth from Brooklyn. A truly disappointing experience, and a poor way to run your business.

This place is the reason I decided to open a Unilocal account. The owner is the sweetest man who knows a ton about wines. Prices are extremely reasonable, even for on a budget college students. Great selection without being too overwhelming. Definitely recommended!

the place has a good selection, decently priced; they even carry my favorite Amaro — thumbs up! but their customer service stinks. their mothers, among other things, never taught them to say «hello.» not a good shopping experience. i feel like i’m hassling them whenever i ask an opinion about a varietal or vineyard that’s new to me.

Just had my first experience with Martin Brothers and I’m very pleased. Placed order over the phone. I’m certain I was not clear when placing the order so when it arrived it was not what I expected. They sent the new order immediately and without complaint. That’s customer service.

Wonderful costumer service! The gentleman who helped us was not only very well informed on his wines & spirits but he was so knowledgeable about many things.
I had friends staying over & we decided to grab food to make a nice home cooked meal. We wanted to grab a nice bottle of wine to go with our meal but there was no wine at the market, only beer. I looked up on Unilocal for the closest liquor store & lucky for us we were directed here.
Not only did he help us find a great wine to go with the food we just bought but he informed us about the liquor laws here in NY. Basically wine & spirits are sold together but beer is always sold solo. So most markets will carry beer but never wine which it’s why we couldn’t get a nice bottle of wine at the market. And now we know. :-)))

I always end up coming here before any special occasion.
The selection here is amazing. I always find what I’m looking for and quite often get something new and interesting to try.
The service here is great too! Tyrone is the business owner, and he is always very helpful, nice and professional, he is very knowledgeable, and always give good advice.
The prices are very reasonable and competitive compared to other locations.

Excellent collection of wine and spirits at competitive prices. It’s, hands down, the best place for buying spirits in 20 blocks around.

Very good selection, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. The service experience is going to totally depend on who happens to be working when you show up, but it runs the gamut from exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, to the sort of reaction you might get if you woke a bear up from hibernation and requested help selecting a chardonnay. I completely understand all the 1 star and all the 5 star reviews here.

So I went here yesterday to get a bottle of wine. I took a bottle off the shelf and was told to get it from another location… very rude of you! I’m a customer making a purchase in your store. Learn something about customer service! I almost walked out there but, I was short on time. I got the bottle of wine but I will not be returning to this store with rude staff.

I have to agree with some of the other Unilocalers about Martin Brothers; While the store is nicely arranged and stocked, the staff definitely seemed cold and disinterested with the thought of helping me. There were about 6 people behind the counter when I visited — most seemed to be preoccupied with tasks (inventory, reconciling, etc). I don’t usually ask for help when visiting liquor stores but in this case, I needed an actual person to help because I was looking for something specific that I knew Martin Brothers’ kept only behind the counter.
After a few minutes of me awkwardly trying to get someone’s attention, one of the staff members asked if I needed help to which I responded affirmatively. He quickly grabbed me the bottle I wanted, placed it on the counter, and went back to what he was doing. All I needed to do now was pay for it. Too bad no one seemed like they wanted to take my money. The original man who helped me noticed that I was again standing around awkwardly trying to get someone’s attention when he decided to ask someone to ring me up. The guy he asked to ring me up gave me a cold look up and down (guess he liked my work outfit?) before letting out a loud sigh (Sheesh, I’m so sorry to be a bother) and finally ringing me up. And, ugh, he didn’t thank me for the transaction! I thanked him! Having worked in customer service/​retail for a while, you thank your customer for their business — especially if the customer thanks YOU for helping.

Nestled on the corner of 108^th street and broadway is one of my favorite wine and liquor stores. Now it might be on the small side, but the service at Martin Brothers is anything but.
Their friendly staff is always ready and willing to help you pick that perfect bottle of wine and often have samples and tastings along with great sales.
I always leave happy and with one or six bottles of something.

This store feels like an old library converted into a liquor store.
It’s on the smaller side, I’d say, but there are enough people working here who are willing to help you get a larger size of Baileys if that’s what your heart desires.
I kind of wish that most of the liquor wasn’t out of reach, because it would be easier to compare brands of, say, vodka. However, I’d say this is a great place to check out wines and get your everyday (but not «everyday») stock-​up of hard alcohol.

Last night my internal dialogue went something like this:
«I have to be up in the morning for work.»
«It’s okay, we’ll get one Pinot Grigio for those who like white and the Spanish Rioja for those who like red.»
«I cannot drink very much of either because I have to be up at 6:45 a.m. tomorrow morning»
***fast forward 5 hours and one party later***
«Shit. I think I just violated my own rules…»
***fast forward another 6 hours and one night later***
«Thank (insert deity of choice here) for Dunkin Donuts coffee and filtered water!»
Other than the great time I had trying to get myself out of bed, showered, and to work this morning, I have nothing but good things to say about this place. First off, *huge* selection from dirt cheap to insanely expensive. Second, they have every type of wine you can think of with an impressive display of hard liquors behind the counter.
My only gripe (s) is that they do not have my favorite Spanish Rioja, so we were forced to find it at another store and the aisles are a little too narrow to maneuver around in there. There’s also no organization to the different types of wine (random whites with reds and bubbly with everything else), so I was forced to go by label recognition in order to find the selection of Pinot Grigios in the store.
Still, this will be a store that I visit whenever the mood strikes. Even if I decide to violate my own damn rules the very minute we get to the party…
