3rd edit. The taste of the Sesame Chicken is pretty great and that’s all that really matters. I tried lobster fried rice for the first time here. They came with peas and those square carrots, so the dish is garbage to me. It actually sorta turned me off from the place. The boiled chicken dumplings were even worse, maybe I’ll try fried next time. Also they cut their vegetables way too big. Egg drop soup, piping hot, is always amazing. Also they’re always really good with providing utensils(*you know, when you get home and you’re like Fuck! because you forgot to remember to ask for a fork or a spoon for your soup, but you look in your bag and it’s in there… it’s always in there…*) and it’s self serve on those little packets of sauce and extra utensils. That in itself upgrades this place from a 3 to a 4. Literally, cause after that lobster fried rice and those boiled dumplings I was feeling like pressing 3. 3 and not 2 because I think this place is better than the place next door.

I needed lunch to go to take with me to my volunteer assignment since I had no time to sit down there and eat it. I hadn’t noticed before they had a steam table to the right of the entrance door. I saw a sign about specials for $ 5.25 and $ 7. I asked what the difference was. The extra money gets you a beverage. I didn’t need that. The $ 5.25 gets you rice with two different dishes. It’s not enough of each if you chose one to make a meal I think so a bit of two is just fine in my opinion for lunch. It was placed in the styrofoam container the size of which is good for a burger. The spicy chicken was with green bell peppers. Then there was some kind of shrimp with finely sliced celery. I didn’t see a sauce with that.

Compared to the other Chinese place up the block, much cleaner and friendly. The standard sesame chicken combo found in most places tastes above average here. Not overly crispy, and just the right amount of sauce. Would recommend if you want a quick fix near Hudson yards.

I was here in Times Square visiting and stumbled upon this restaurant. Is not the best Chinese food in the world but it was pretty great! A few of my business partners and I were craving Chinese food in it with the closest one around. I recommend this place to anyone, but don’t go here thinking this is going to be a PF Changs or something other five-star Chinese restaurant.

Cheap, quick Chinese food and slightly fewer recent health code violations than the competition up the block. The steam table portions were enough for 2 meals, though the shrimp did not reheat particularly well. There are tables at which to eat, but I plan to take mine back to the office, as there is not a shred of atmosphere.

Don’t come here if you’re visiting New York from Chicago or Australia. But it is the worth the trip from, say, 6th Avenue, as long as you understand what sort of place this is. My top pick here is the roast pork with curry sauce, a seemingly simple idea that most places don’t offer. Last time I mixed it up with home style bean curd, which had an excellent sauce(soft bean curd FYI, if that’s a problem.) I also had the ribs, which were enjoyable but a tad too greasy. The price/size ratio is impressive.

Another ordinary takeout/eat in Chinese place. I’ve been reviewing a lot of these standard places, but I love NYC Chinese! Friendly man taking my order, nice separate little dining area. Cheap as expected, always a plus.

Okay, so it’s not the best Chinese food in the world, but hey, for fast food, it’s fast, cheap, and tasty enough. It’s a great lunch spot if you’re in the neighborhood! I like getting their $ 6.50 lunch buffet special. It’s your choice of 2 entrees, rice or noodles, and a soda/water. They give you nice, big portions. I like getting the steamed fish — this is the only cheap Chinese place I have been able to find that has steamed fish for so cheap… sooo worth it! And I rotate between the shrimp/mixed veggies or chicken and broccoli. I’ve gotten the chicken wings before, but that will probably disappoint you because it’s not so crispy… I hear that the chicken wings that you order from the counter are better. The seafood isn’t fresh, but again, it’s good enough, especially if you’re craving some good, cheap Chinese food. They take cash if you pay by the buffet area, but they also take credit card if you go to the register. This is a family-owned restaurant and they’re all really nice. They remember you if you come often and the service is great. Just smile, and they’ll be friendly. :)

Friendly, fast, decent sized portions. Hunan Chicken was good and done quickly, with pork fried rice. Tasty and fast. Eggroll was dry — maybe I’ll try the soup next time. Cheap and quick — you can’t beat that.

First was exposed to Mings from their generous buffet lunch — BBQ rib tips, Gen Tso’s chicken and decent fried rice, soda inc. Portions got skimpier so i branched out and gravitated to their Cantonese Won ton Soup. At 3.95 with special shrimp and pork won tons, your choice of noodle, the great chicken broth is a must have any time. Tried the fish balls once and found them chewy, flavorless and not very good. They do the basics OK, place in general needs an upgrade, but for the soup alone i recommend Mings.

Good ‘olé chinese take-out. Portions are large, doesn’t break the bank. In a pinch, heck yeah!

A year or two ago I would have rated this place a solid 4 stars; however, today it is a totally different story. The food has gone down and I haven’t quite yet been able to pinpoint why, or how that is. New cook? Restructuring? I don’t know, but I surely care. We used to order from here almost every other day at the office and now I can barely get the group roused to place a single order(if ever). Its ok, but honestly at this point there are better Chinese food places in the vicinity and YES they are also just as affordable. The selections have started to look the same, and NO its not normal for Sesame Chicken AND General Tso to appear identical. Lastly, stay away from the pork friend rice… its scary. Not sure what’s going on with you Ming’s but you used to be great *wipes away tear*.

This place is right around the corner from where I work. By default this is my cheap eats location. For 5 dollars you can get your typical fast food Chinese fix from this location. The food does not stand out though, normally with different locals I might be able to tell you what to get. In this case though, literally nothing stands out. The main redeeming factor is the price.

for $ 5.55, my chicken in garlic sauce lunch special was not that bad. it’s a tiny take out/dining in. the portions are big and the food is good. However, the times I’ve ordered the wonton soup… very bland. you get 3 big wontons but the taste is non descript. you get a choice of soup, eggroll or soda. they do have an all you can eat for lunch but dont know the price. basically its a clean quick stomach filling lunch for under $ 6

I’m changing my review of this place. My previous 1-star rating probably wasn’t justified. I was very disappointed when I went here, and I probably shouldn’t give my subjective feelings controlling weight in my review. I did not like the food here, but at the least, it was edible and sufficiently resembled what I’d asked for that I was reasonably confident that I’d received the correct order. Plus, you can probably squeeze three meals out of a combo if you eat lightly, or at least two, provided you stop eating at the point of «I’m full», and that you don’t proceed to «I hate myself now.» Total cost: less than $ 5. At least eating here didn’t make me lose my apartment. I think they’re open late.

Terrible, not even worth the measly 5 dollars for lunch. They use cuts of meat that your pet shouldn’t eat. Maybe, if desperate, I would come for a hot and sour or egg drop soup.

Cheap typical Chinese place with dirt cheap lunch specials. I’m not going to bother going into a detailed review of this place because literally 35steps next to this place is Golden City Chinese Restaurant which is so much better. Ming’s is grungy and dirty with ripped seats, missing floor tiles, cob webs, and less than mediocre Chinese food. The only redeeming factor is that you can use your card for any amount(under $ 10 they charge you a nominal 50 cents).

Woah. I feel bad about giving this place the review I’m about to give it, I was sure I’d be the only one who’d reviewed it! But anyways… It sucked. Fried rice had zero flavor and questionable shrimp. It looked orange like Spanish rice, but no flavor to back the weird color up. I honestly never thought I’d say this but: The spring roll was GROSS. Eggplant with chicken was inedible — Rob stopped eating after a few bites and pushed his plate away looking confused, sad and hungry. It’s dingy. It’s not the cleanest. Go to Golden City — on the same block, closer to 34th Ave. With such superior competition right down the street I don’t know how Ming’s survives. Boooooooooooo.

Cheap, decent Chinese food. I stumbled upon this place one day when I refused to pay $ 10 for some frou-frou Chinese lunch at Chef Yu. This is what I call real Chinese food. Not that any Chinese food in America is real, but you know what I mean. They have a lunch buffet where you can get rice or lo mein with 2 items and a soda for $ 5.50. Not bad. They don’t skimp on the food either. My co-worker commented on how heavy the container was when we got back to the office. She’s right. That food is dense. Today I had the lo mein with orange chicken and chicken with broccoli. I didn’t realize it was chicken with broccoli(thought it was beef) until the lady started scooping it into the container. But oh well, I needed my veggies and both were good. The broccoli was perfectly cooked, just the right amount of crunchiness. And the orange chicken had a good balance of soy sauce and sweetness and crunchiness. The lo mein was nothing special, but I’m a picky lo mein eater. It made a good accompaniment to the chickens so I didn’t mind too much. Would definitely go back. It’s not the best Chinese food ever, but for the price and the fact that it’s so close to work, it’s worth it.
