Molly’s Cupcakes

Finally I’m here at Molly’s.
New York is never short of decent cupcake places, Mognolia, Sprinkles, you name it. Molly’s was definitely staying on top my list for a very long time before I’m here today. To my surprise, the store was small with only a couple of tables.
Their cupcakes came in two sizes, regular or mini. Only four flavors were mini-​designated: red velvet, chocolate, vanilla and carrot. While I do enjoy vanilla and chocolate, red velvet was for sure my favorite. It has just the right level of sweetness.
I will be back for sure, at least to give a try on their regular size ones.

The cake and filling of the cupcake was good but the frosting tasted like a stick of butter. Not my thing.

Delicious cupcakes and good service! Only con for me is that I don’t like light, whipped frosting and almost all of their cupcakes have it. However, their moist cakes and rich fillings keep me coming back!
Ron bennington: so rich, with peanutbutter oozing out. I like that the frosting on this one is ganache so it is thicker.
Cookie monster: light frosting but loaded with cookie dough so I’ll take it! The cake is light and moist.
Cake batter: cake batter literally spills out. I like the cookie monster better though because of it’s chocolate chips.
Oreo: good, but the ron bennington is better!

Just tried the banana cupcake — SUPER SUPER moist and not overly sweet! Loved it.

Salted caramel butterscotch. Just get one. The cake itself is moist and creamy, and the icing heavenly. The caramel inside is a nice touch. Seriously, this cupcake is amazing.

the chocolate ganache/​mousse cupcake was SO good! perfect level of sweetness and chocolatey goodness. enjoyed every single bite. the blueberry cheesecake was also good.

First and foremost, this place is the perfect place to grab a dessert and talk after a dinner — or even just for dinner haha. I loved how the place was decorated; the swings give a nice playful and inviting vibe. I ordered the flourless chocolate cupcake and it definitely catered to craving for a nice rich chocolate flavor. The icing was flavorless and I thought it really wasn’t necessary.
The cupcakes are around $ 4 each, which I think is reasonable. I would come back !

Molly’s is one of my favorite cupcake shops in all of NYC! Seriously moist cake that gets even better when you get to the center. Love the crème brûlée and mint chocolate flavors

This is a cute lil’cupcake shop in the West Village. I wanted to order some cupcakes for my Sister’s Birthday party, but l wanted to sample some before buying. I actually had been here before a few years ago but forgot how their cupcakes were. I sampled 3 mini cupcakes & 1 regular sized (since they don’t have minis for all flavors). The regular cupcake. was one of my favorite flavor combos; «Chocolate & Raspberry», that was pretty good. The minis were; «Crème Brulee» that was also good, «Vanilla cupcake w/​Vanilla frosting» & «Chocolate cupcake w/​Choc frosting». All good & moist! Not too much frosting which l appreciate, l can’t stand when there is a glob of frosting & little cake. I also had a cappuccino, but that wasn’t great. So l decided to order a dozen regular sized cupcakes; 2 Crème brulees, 1 Chocolate & Raspberry (very rich & fruity, yum!), 1 Chocolate Kahlua w/​Coffee (l wished l had tasted the kahlua & coffee, it seemed to be missing). then 2 Vanilla on Vanilla, 2 Banana w/​Vanilla frosting (l opted to get without sprinkles), 1 Chocolate w/​Sea Salted Caramel, 2 Coconut w/​Macadamia nuts (which was surprisingly salty for a sweet treat & was unexpected where as the sea salted caramel one l expected it, obviously) & 1 Peach Cobbler. They told me they make Strawberry shortcake in the summer, l don’t know why, since you can easily get strawberries now.
If you’re going to visit this place, keep in mind that this place does not accept any bills higher than a 20, due to too many counterfeits, is what l was told.
The best thing about this place is the story behind the name «Molly’s Cupcakes» which you can read on their website & that they donate a portion of their profits to the schools in their community.

Oh the days when this place used to be quiet… I walked in last weekend after not coming here for couple of years and saw how crowded this place was. People were standing around looking for seats while there was a line growing all the way to the restroom.
I’ve only and always ordered the cupcakes here before. They’re the right amount of sweetness and fluffiness like a cupcake should be.
I recommend the following center-​filled: Blueberry Cheesecake, Mixed Berry (I’m a fan of berries!), Crème Brûlée, and Cookie Monster
If you’re not in to all those crazy concoctions, the classic cupcake: Red Velvet with French Buttercream is also amazing!
I also remember having a Strawberry Shortcake cupcake, but I believe that was a seasonal one.

I was craving something sweet after lunch, so I researched for some nearby dessert places and found this gem. After seeing a picture of their chocolate cupcakes, I knew I had to go and get one. This place is not hard to find at all. It is pretty big for a cupcake place, and definitely bigger than a lot of stores I have visited in ny.
The inside of this place is so cute and pretty. They have a small bar type seating with seats made of swings hanging from the ceiling. They also have table seating and their shelves are decorated with textbooks and different board games. I found the chocolate cupcake I wanted, and sat down with a couple of games. The cupcake was so good, mostly because I really enjoyed the icing. The icing was not too heavy, not too light, and just the right amount of chocolaty goodness I wanted to taste. It had a chocolate filling that was different from the texture of the icing, and it was lighter and definitely closer to the texture of whipped cream.
I really enjoyed my time at this place eating my cupcake and playing games hiding from the ny winter. Definitely a great place to catch up or grab something for that sweet tooth!

I came for an afternoon cupcake and tea and had a really nice experience! It’s pretty spacious inside, so you can actually stay and eat your cupcake rather than just being grab and go. We sat at the counter on these fun chairs which were wooden swings chained to the ceiling. They were also chained to the floor, so you could swing a little but weren’t wildly swinging all over the place… =P
My friend and I split the «Salted Caramel Butterscotch» cupcake and the «Ron Bennington» chocolate cupcake with peanut butter filling. Each cupcake was like 50% frosting /​filling and 50% cake which kept everything moist and tasty. You can also add your own sprinkles to the top!

The cupcakes itself was mediocre. We got the mini cupckakes. You get to choose your cake, topping then put on sprinkles. At the sprinkle station, the sprinkles hardly come out of the cans.
The cakes was good but not amazing.

Mollys started in Chicago and I’ve never been to the original location but I am so happy they have one in New York. All the flavors I’ve tried are great– blueberry cheesecake, Cookie Monster, peach cobbler. My favorite, however, is crème brûlée.
I like it because it has the hardened sugar glaze on the outside and the creamy center inside the cupcake. It’s sweet, but not excessively. It’s texture is varied in the hardness of the sugar and the softness of the cupcake along with the cream in the center. I also like the sweet/​tart of the berries on top. I just wish there were a couple more berries. But overall yummy and my fav cupcake place to go to.
They have games that you can play (like Jenga, sorry, etc), along with random textbooks and children’s books you can read if you want (but no one ever touches those). They also have some bar seating– the stools look like little swings. Very cute!
Staff is friendly and space isn’t too crowded.

The cupcakes are good but overpriced. Over $ 5 for a cupcake? That’s pretty crazy. I remember coming here last year and trying a few cupcakes, they were ok really nothing special. I happened to be in the neighborhood so I went in to get the Nutella peanut butter cupcake that I keep seeing on Instagram. $ 5.08 for my cupcake… Annoying that she gave me 92¢… The cupcake was ok, fairly dry. I ate about half because it was a little overwhelming. Wouldn’t go out of my way for this place.

Cupcake; moist. That indeed it was, I ate it was a fork getting fresh blueberries, cupcake piece which more and more was to my liking. It’s almost like having a blueberry muffin for breakfast with its fixings.
The cheesecake part was perfect. I mean not one piece of this cupcake was wrong! The cheesecake was great in flavor, texture, and not too sugary. It was placed on the top of my muffin like-​cupcake. They added the blueberries and cheesecake crust, which are great additions to this element.
Crust like pieces on top (3 of them), was like a hard candies but burst of sugary cinnamon flavor that made «the crust» like added décor seem oh sooo amazing as I’m eating the cupcake one by one.
Blueberries very fresh. I bit into one not sure if it was a candy or a delicious ripe and tasty blueberry; it was real. Great flavor with sugar on them. Perfect.
I walked in and I was the only person ordering so I was able to ask all my questions. She mentioned all the cupcakes in the display that I was looking at had filling! She mentioned the cookie dough in the center of one, but the birthday cake looking one had cake batter; oh my it was hard to make my decision today! Although I will say I went with «do something different Daisha». That’s how I picked the blueberry cheesecake cupcake. Who would knew…

Such a cute place, as it was founded by a teacher and has a cute school theme to it. The cupcakes were certainly fresh and very delicious! The décor is adorable, as there are swings and old school furniture.

This review is based on the crème brûlée cup cake and that was so delicious that I had to give them 5 Stars.
Stumbled on them while walking the city and saw the signs saying voted the best cupcakes in the city being the unapologetic glutton that I am I had to stop. I am so happy that I did.
They gave a really nice layout with seats facing outside and the swings that you can sit on while sitting at the serving counter.
The staff was friendly too.

This is a super cute place in the heart of the West Village, one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York City! I love the set up of the place– Lots of seating, swing seats and games along the side such as Jenga, Apples to Apples etc.
I also really love their concept of Cream-​Filled cupcakes. It was really difficult to choose just one, so I ended up trying 2 of them.
The first was Boston Cream which was made of yellow vanilla cake, delicate pastry cream filling and chocolate ganache frosting. It was delectable… I really liked the combination of flavors and thought it had a light, delicate taste to it.
The other cupcake I tried was the Peanut Butter Nutella (came highly recommended), which consisted of peanut butter cake, nutella filling and nutella buttercream frosting. It was wonderful, incredibly rich and creamy, full of the peanut butter and sweet nutella flavor. I enjoyed the nutella filling, but the nutella frosting was just okay… It didn’t look or taste like nutella to me. Also, this particular cupcake was quite messy and the nutella was oozing out of the bottom so it would have been nice if they had enclosed the bottom part of the cupcake and/​or had given me a fork to make it easier to eat for me.
The service was pretty good… The cashiers were friendly and knowledgeable about the cupcakes.

Cute café to get your customized cupcake! We went there today as part of the cupcake tour and each one of us got to try their own creation. I had a molly-​sized carrot cupcake with brown butter frosting and we even got to decorate them with sprinkles :) I loved the interior and the story behind the store — the owner’s third grade teacher was called Molly which is why the entire store has an elementary school design, lunch boxes, tiny chairs and swings at the bar — such a creative way to design a café!
The cupcakes were tasty and freshly made — we are already thinking about going back to try the other flavors!
