This was a pleasant experience with Russian– Central Asian food. I was craving Russian food; Juliane in particular and decided to give Oasis a try! I was the only non Russian speaking customer as far as I can tell; yet I was very very impressed by the staff and their hospitality, our host was extremely polite and nice; I tried a potato lulya kebob which was amazing, got Juliane, avocado salad and other appetizer items, all where phenomenal. I made a mistake ordering chicken stake which was just okay in comparison to the fresh and tasty appetizers; the stake was more of a frozen cutlet; did not measure up to the rest of the food. This is a BYOB place with terrific food and excellent service. The prices are great and the decoration is awesome. Highly recommended place, and a perfect place to get an introduction to Russian and central Asian food.

So came to this place with my family of 7 people. We came in first night. Didn’t have to wait for the table. Food was nothing special. Seemed fresh. The waiter massed up my order 3 times. Waited really long time for extra things that I asked along my dining. Asked other waiter to order main dish he said yes give me a second and walked away. The worst service ever. Ended up leaving in the middle of my meal with out ordering a main course. We go out every weekend and never ever seen something like that. Please keep in mind that I never wrote a review. So please stay away from this place save yourself nerves and good time.

Quant little place, with excellent food and good service! Absolutely loved every dish we ordered. Eggplant sauté, fresh salad, herb katabi and hachapuri were delicious! The meat was even better chicken kebabs and lamb ribs or semechki as they are called were unbelievably delicious. Great place, food and service! Can’t wait to come back.

Good food, slow service ! I usually take to go due to the fact that they take forever when seated to be served!

Good food, but the personnel is ridiculous. Waiters are almost always rude, when ordering delivery they can NEVER get it right(it’s either missing something or they don’t put enough). The manager should pay more attention to his workers. If not them I would definitely put 5 stars.

Inconsistent quality but the food is amazing when they are at the top of their game.

Been here a few times. The food is delicious. It’s always a safe bet to go with the kebabs. While the kebabs are good, they’re smaller than Nargis for around the same price. Their compote is delicious too. The dish I recommend to everyone is jizz-biz. Sounds weird but it’s basically a mix of different kinds of meats with onion, melted cheese, and soft pita. It’s enough for a group of 2 – 3 hungry people. The service here is pretty good. Never had an issue with waiters. The only complaint is the bullsh*t «service charge» that Russian places screw customers over with, that is separate from the tip. Minus one star for that. Otherwise a solid place that’s as good as Nargis.

Great food. Period. Would strongly recommend if you are craving for some Central Asian and/or Russian food. Would definitely consider coming again if around that area. Service is decent, although the staff can get overwhelmed on a busy night.

Seriously, this place is now in my top three for Russian and former silk road food. Had the chicken kebab and«steamed veggies»(which is actually green pepper, eggplant, and pickled and grilled tomato.) Silky smooth! Price is decent, too. I stared over at other plates from neighboring tables and found much more delicious goodness! Def wanna come back!

This place is a hidden gem of a restaurant. I have been here several times, for birthday celebrations, for a casual weekday meal and for downtime with my husband. It is central Asian cuisine: Shashlik, plov, manti, samsa, warm lavash, eggplant salad etc. Their plov is delicious! It’s fluffy and flavorful with chunks of lamb. The shashlik is juicy and moist and their lamb shashlik is made proper: skewered with fat to keep optimal flavor! They also have Russian/Soviet offerings: fried potatoes with dill and garlic, beet salad, borsch, other salads along with the usual franco-inspired dishes most Russians are used to like fish in cream sauce and julienne(sautéed mushrooms in cream sauce baked to delicious gooey perfection under cheese) The service is perfect! For so many years the Russian restaurant scene was filled with obnoxious waiters but this place has great service. Sometimes they are a bit disorganized, but it seems they are often understaffed. I can’t take away a star for a waiter not being able to service two banquets and several parties thoroughly. They try though, those guys run around non stop, and do try and make everyone happy. Lastly it is BYOB. **Also I don’t know what the other reviewers are saying about food poisoning. The food, i. e lamb and the plov is fatty(naturally) and spiced with heavy central Asian spices that a stomach not used to some of these spices and fats can’t handle. It’s just a truth about certain ethnic foods. Try this place. It may look inconspicuous, but it is truly a delicious, inviting and warm restaurant.

4 pcs of Big tasty lamb ribs($ 4) yum! 3 chunks of salmon & side for $ 9 Dinner for 2 was about $ 55, good food & beautiful interior. Would give 5 stars but waiters & bus boys were not organized. Could have better service.

While on the outside this place does not look like anything special, the food here was perfect all around and turned out to be a very worthwhile Russian spot to hit up. The interior is pretty standard and casual, mix between Russian Restaurant and Russian Cafeteria. The staff here is great, very attentive and nice. We got banquette style, as is the usual protocol for larger Russian gathering. All the food was super fresh, the potatoes with mushrooms were absolutely perfect, the salmon was very fresh and the shish kebab and meats were all delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked. If you are looking for some good Russian food without all the gimmicks this is worth a stop.

I was just there and I agree with the other comments listed here. Firstly, there is a B-RATING on the front of this place, which is not at first noticeable because of a small enclosure in the front of the restaurant, which is used for people to stand in during inclement weather. We were there for a birthday and the food was good and so was the waiter service. They were EXTREMELY helpful. The ONLY thing that turned me off was the fact that they had that 10% Service Charge there. After that, we figured to give the waiters an ADDITIONAL10% on top. After counting the money to make sure we added another 10% tip, I left to wait in the car. At that point one of the waiters went BEHINDMYBACK to tell the grandmother of the birthday girl, that THETIPWASN’T ENOUGH. SHEDIDN’T KNOWWHATTODOSOSHEGAVETHEMALMOST10% MORE!!! This is VERY rude behavior by the waiters. If I decide to give NOTHING, they have NORIGHTTOSAYTHATIT’S NOTENOUGH! WHATIF I DECIDEDTHATTHESERVICEWASBADANDGAVENOTHINGEXTRA? I would NEVER do that, but I cannot BELIEVETHEAUDACITY of those waiters to go to the older woman to ask for more of a tip. Beware if you come there to be asked to pay 20% or MORE on top of the 10% service charge that they tack on there. By the way, I also got a small stomach ache in the middle of the night last night. Whenever the food is not good, my stomach reacts immediately. Although it tasted GREAT, there may be other issues the public doesn’t know.

For appetizers, my party shared four different salads, a sliced meat platter, a sliced fish platter, and some pickled fruits and vegetables. The eel and mango salads were nearly identical. I’m not sure why we ordered both. The shepherd’s salad was decent; in my opinion, you can find a great shepherd’s salad a mile and a half north at Tacis Beyti. I’m unsure of the name of the last salad we ordered. I was told it was a tongue salad. It had a heavy mayonnaise dressing, yet I liked the crunchier contrast this salad had compared to the others. Sorry, for not knowing the name. Our proceeding courses featured fried potatoes with mushrooms, stewed beef with tomatoes and peppers under tortillas, a creamy seafood pasta, and a mixed grill. The potatoes were fine. They weren’t as crispy as Russian Dreams’ potatoes, but that’s not a relevant comparison considering RDs is in Jersey. The stewed beef was taken out of a stew and served with slow cooked tomatoes and peppers. It was my favorite dish, but the presentation was a bit funny; they choose to cover the dish with a few tortillas instead of serving the tortillas on a side plate. I stocked up on this dish, so I was too full for the pasta course. However, I managed to make a comeback for the mixed grill served over french fries. In general, the meats of this plate were too dry and salty for my liking; I could feel my lips puckering with each bite. Admittedly, I’m being overly critical of the mixed grill, but if you’re going to serve a mixed grill on Coney Island avenue, then you’re going to be held to a higher standard considering all of the other spots you can find the dish perfected in this area. The last facet I’d like to comment on is the service. You can tell that management stresses catering to customers. Unfortunately, I found the service to be overly attentive and a bit invasive. For our party, the waiters refilled our glasses whenever we were halfway done. They also came around and offered to transfer each dish to our respective plates numerous times. It felt like I was being smothered by grandma! «Oh Joseph, thee hochiss kooshat eta, ye eta? Cock neit? Mojjit thee proprobit eta?» I think this problem will eventually dissipate with experience; though, it is nice to know customer service is a priority here.

Besides the food being absolutely delicious, I was very impressed with the service. Those guys were on top of it and I felt very well attended too. Even the owner of the restaurant was walking around making sure everyone was happy. This is a great place to come for lunch/dinner and with larger groups.

Three words to describe this place… Food poisoning sucks!(Apologies to Val S.) My experience while I was there was good. Seated promptly(Nargis had a 40 minute wait), the food didn’t take long, it was hot and tasty, the servers were nice and attentive. I asked for water to drink and got charged $ 2.50 for a little bottle of Poland Spring instead of most places’ free water, and got the 10% «service fee» another review mentioned, both apparently common in Russia, so I accordingly left a smaller tip than I’d normally give(which is high for American standards, and very high for western European standards & I assume Russian standards too). My experience after I left there took a clear turn for the worse. About 30 – 45 minutes after eating, I felt a sharp pain in my gut, but it didn’t last long, so I didn’t think much of it. Another hour after that, I was speeding home to get to my bathroom as quick as possible, and spent a good deal of time there in the day that followed. I had the manti, ground lamb kebab, and rice, with sour cream & some tomato-based sauce. Nothing seemed suspect at the time, but it sure did later. Were it not for the food poisoning, I’d give them 4*. I hate to give them such a low rating since things started off so well, but sorry, food poisoning automatically bottoms it out.
