This was my first stop when I moved to New York and I was so very excited for a cool, non-Starbucks, coffee shop. I saw they had a mocha/coffee blend thing(I don’t remember what it was called) so I ordered it so very excitedly. The drink tasted like burnt coffee and old chocolate. The first sip made me sick to my stomach. I decide that maybe this was just bad luck so I went back. Ordered just a regular coffee. Again, burnt tasting and just awful.

When I can I go to Oren’s … Starbucks is just around the corner but there’s something about not supporting that beast. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the coffee — but the service and chai are top marks. I work close by at the University and always a good little walk to break up the day. The staff could not be more friendly — always a pleasure. If you’re looking for a sit down don’t get your hopes up — only 3 chairs near the window. But on a sunny day there’s never a bench far …

Best coffee in Morningside Heights(sorry Joe)! There’s no seating unfortunately, but the coffees as good as you can get. They have a huge selection of beans for purchase in the back!

The coffee in this place is fantastic, but what’s more impressive is the staff. Kind, friendly, and fast as hell, they manage a ton of under-caffeinated customers and stay cool and humorous. I’m a big fan.

Did I really just pay $ 3.60 for a 8 oz Latte??? This is the main reason they are getting 1 star from me. There has been a change in the sizes of their hot drink cups and small just got smaller from 12 oz to 8 oz but the price sure did not get any smaller. Thank God I didn’t get my usual Almond milk latte cause that is a $.50 additional charge. Luckily for me I haven’t liked the flavor of the Almond milk they have been using lately. Oren’s was truly my favorite coffee but as the price gets ridiculous my business just went out the door. Break ups aren’t easy but my pocket will definitely appreciate it. I had started to make coffee at home and it seem as if that will be the new tradition.

I’m absolutely in love with Oren’s. The staff is always friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, they have a wide dearth of kitschy coffee mugs, and most importantly, the coffee is always on point– never watery or bitter. The seating is limited, but I’m usually in a hurry anyway, so I don’t hold it against them.

Had their moroccan mint green tea and it was pretty good. Seems like your average, nice little coffee shop chain.

A very good espresso bar. I am personally not a fan of bitter coffee so i strictly avoid their drip coffee. But the latte is AMAZING. The only problem is that they don’t have seating. They can easily make room for seating arrangement. I just dont like the idea of a café without seating. Where will I drink my coffee, man? But it’s great for New Yorkers who are always on the run.

Best coffee in Manhattan — with the caveat that it does depend on the brew. This one is conveniently located — right near campus. It’s tiny, so not a lot of seating options. But I have never had anything quite as good as their Guatemala with steamed milk. Their lattes are also great and they have a wide array of tea. Would also like to say that they, like many other cafes, are stocked by ovenly and dough for their cookies and pastries, but they ALWAYS are cheaper. Other cafes charge like $ 3.5 for ovenly cookies! Their almond croissants are very good, as are the whole wheat and the biscotti. Love their granola cookies.

Knock Knock? Who’s there? Oren? Oren who? ORENYOUGLADYOUDISCOVEREDTHISPLACE??? AHHAHAHA. Ok but seriously, Oren’s Daily Roast serves up a delicious cup of coffee. At under $ 3 for a large, it’s cheaper than Starbucks and more tasty than Dunkin’s. The coffee here is robust and bold, so if you’re into weak and smooth, this isn’t the place for you. They’re also very tolerant of lactose intolerance, as they have both almond and soy milk. The interior is extremely small, and it’s standing room only. If you’re looking to chat away your morning, I suggest getting your coffee and finding a bench on campus. Definitely my number one stop for caffeine in the city. Oh and they also have a variety of tea. What’s not to like?

Always been my favorite, for muffins, chai tea, and their mugs with the logo on it. For over 5 years Oren’s has been my pick on a cold morning in New York, and I have never been disappointed, neither will you. The staff is the icing on the cake that enhances what a great stop this is!

I was excited to try their coffee. I had the Columbia roast(this is how I tend to judge coffee spots). I ordered banana bread which is for a snack later. I don’t know how much it was, because no one told me and I didn’t get a receipt until I walked out and they had a Huge line. Although, I believe I am fine(MYFAULT, I guess). Its a «home-e» like coffee shop and has a million«need to sees and buys». I really like their set up and they do things well in terms of catching the«perfect consumer». they are so hidden and forget about them, but today I remember. Few tips. If you want something NEW and different go here. Parking is limited(but why would you drive down there), it has seating, and there is a good flow in the am. I felt like the Columbia was a little bitter tasting. I don’t like Starbucks or anything like that, but I do like medium roast and smooth coffee. I think that it was OK. Also the one star missing is because the guy who took my order told the women in front of me(kind of yelling with an irritated voice: «you went straight to the cashier and that is why you don’t have a coffee yet»… HA :) I had NO clue what was going on sooo I stood there looking«stupid» because unless you look at me how do I know its not my turn: CUSTOMERSERVICE… this man turned me off… KEEP in mind you have to order first and then pay(I mean that is kind of how it is at most spots, but the line was grooving how would she know). FOODFORTHOUGHT. I always have to speak my mind. Im sure Ill be back for an espresso or latte.

One of the best coffee places in the UWS. Every morning on my way to work I have an almond milk latte! One on the only places that offers almond milk latte :)

I unfortunately have become quite fond of the soy chai tea latte. The drink is creamy, comforting, and just sweet enough. At 3.50 for a small, I wish I was in love with something else.

This is one of those places that sells some great coffee. They have a wide selection of coffee and tea drinks to choose from which are produced quickly and efficiently. They also have a wide selection of coffee beans to choose from(even Jamaican Blue Mountain, although it IS pricey) as well as a large selection of teas. They also offer an Oren’s card that grants you a free drink after you hit the twelfth and a free small drink with a $ 30 charge placed onto the card. The one issue I encounter at the peak times is relatively large lines. But then again, they ARE efficient at breaking down those lines and I have yet to witness them mess up any orders. They also have a ton of coffee paraphernalia to boot. It’s quite ecclectic and their pastries are amazing to boot!

I LOVE Oren’s. I’ve only ever gotten coffee from them, so I can’t attest to how their teas and pastries are, but their coffee is great(and the pastries look really yummy). The iced and hot coffees are very flavorful and reasonably priced in my opinion. I like to avoid big chain coffee places(you know the ones I’m talking about) and Oren’s, though a chain, is a nice local alternative to their nationwide competitors. Also, although the line can sometimes be long in the morning, they move people in and out very quickly. My one minor irritation with Oren’s is the less than ideal milk bar location at this store. I can’t really say there’s a better place for it without eliminating what little seating they have, but it does get a bit cramped in this small store. EIther way, I will still continue stopping in several times a week on my way to school. P. S. their staff seems like a bunch of friendly people.

Oren’s Daily Roast is my coffee shop of choice when I have to pop onto campus for school things. Their delicious coffee really puts all other coffee shops in the area into oblivion. To keep it short & sweet: — They have almond milk and soy milk. — They carry goods from Doughnut Plant(YES!) and Balthazar. — They have smooth, strong lattes and coffee with consistent quality. Grab-and-go place because it’s small, but cozy with glass urns of coffee beans on display. Give your order in front of the pastry glass, pay to the left at the cash register, then step back and wait for your drink to be called. Fast, efficient, no fuss no muss. Head over to Columbia University a few blocks north to enjoy your eats on their grass lawn. I’m a fan!

Prices are basically the same as Starbucks but this place has better tasting coffee and better service. I came here while waiting for my friend to get out of class so he could show me around the city, and I just got a latte to go so I could drink something while walking around campus on a rainy day. The place is tiny though — it was kinda hard to tell where the line was because everyone inside was kinda mixed around and there’s no real defined place on where to stand if you’re waiting. It’s just outside of Columbia so it’s a great place to stop by on your way to class in the morning.
