I’m here almost every morning since I work in the vicinity. The staff is always super friendly. They’re pretty good at recognizing customers and their orders which is always a plus. Sometimes as I’m waiting to order they already have my iced coffee ready to go just the way I like it. I’ve only tried their coffee, bagels with different toppings, soups and sandwiches. The soups here are really great. The sandwich/panini’s are nothing out of the ordinary but still good. The price is a little steep, but you are in the heart of manhattan so I wouldn’t expect anything else. All in all it is a very solid deli with super friendly staff. The line goes by extremely quick and they always have a smile on their faces and always have something nice to say!

Very expensive for food that sits out for weeks. The lettuce is bad the selection is good but 16 $ for a gross salad is ridiculous. Go down the street to any corner store and save 7 $ with the same quality food.

Pax is a very common place around Manhattan. While their food is typically OK, it really isn’t that great. I find that whenever I get a pre-made sandwich that they have to heat up, the bread just goes stale if you don’t woof it down fast. That is somewhat odd. I go to the one near my workplace and I only go sometimes out of convenience. There’s better out there and especially for your wallet! Quite a rip off, but typical NYC prices(lunch you can expect to spend at least $ 15).

You’re paying a bit more for a glorified deli, which is kept clean, is in an area with VERY little quality(if any!) quick, healthy food options, attentive service, and not having to maneuver the hell of Penn Station. Yes. Much better if you can walk out of this area for a quality deli. And it would be awesome if they had a larger selection of everything(half the place is devoted to the salad bar). But it’s decent-to-good food, quick, and easy. I was able to get a decently-sized baguette sammy, kettle chips, vitamin water, and a naked juice for just shy of $ 20. In this area, for this kind of place, that really isn’t horrible, considering how attentive the staff were.

I come here almost every single day cuz I work in the building. The ladies who work the register are truly lovely, but the coffee is shit, and the $ 5 fresh squeezed orange juice is NOT fresh squeezed. It’s just some tropicana nonsense. One time I ordered a large iced coffee, and the guy accidentally put it in a medium cup– when the lady corrected him, he filled a large cup with more ice, then dumped the medium into the large– but not all the coffee fit, thanks to all that effing ice. I ended up getting even LESS coffee than i would have if I had stuck with the damn medium! This may seem like a neurotic gripe, but this is the kinda shit that pisses me off to no end when I am always there, and IT’S MYMORNINGCOFFEE. I NEEDTHATTOSURVIVE. SERIOUSLY??? CHARGINGMEMOREFORLESS?!? Basically now all I get there is the oatmeal. Also– there bowls of tuna/chicken salad look gnarly as hell by the end of the day from sitting out. Cmon yall.

I remember looking at this Unilocal page and thinking«why are SO many people dissatisfied? The customer service is good, the food is good, not too long of a wait.» Well — now I have a better understanding. The people that work there do try their best and I want to give them 5 stars just for that BUT they have messed up my order so. many. times. I come and get the same thing pretty much every morning and pay a good 3 bucks more than any other place in the area and… for what? For frustration over not getting what I paid for? Definitely not worth it. I will still get their lunch when they are not too busy.

This place does brisk business serving UCB nerds and lost tourists. The wares are fine, and the staff is better than most similar outfits in the area. You can hang out outside in the little lobby area.

Don’t understand all the negative reviews hating on this place. I’ve come here several times over the past two years and it’s always been solid. Friendly service, healthy quality food and reasonable prices especially for the tourist trap of a neighborhood. I recommend. I’ve had the fresh chopped salads, yummy soups(I like the split pea), and most recently the veggie egg white omelette. All yummy for my tummy. Give this place a chance and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Wish I checked Unilocal before coming here. Came here this morning to pickup bagels for a morning meeting. I needed an assortment of bagels and croissants for 12 people. When I asked for a box of bagels the prep tried to sell me a $ 9/per person catering package. I had to explain I simply need a box of bagels. He had me purchase 12 individual pieces at $ 23 total and then when i asked for cream cheese he said this was an extra. and tried to sell me little packets. Geeze, theres too many options to be so nickle and dimmed!

This is seriously the last time I come here! So the first time, they screwed up my order and then overcharged me. The second time, I said«you overcharged me last time for the wrong thing». I got no eye contact and a mumbled Im sorry. Not much else. Today, all I wanted was an egg and cheese sandwich which in deli in Midtown can make and I get stuck waiting for 15 minutes because they just didn’t start it to then getting the most pathetic sandwich I have ever seen. Barely any egg hidden somewhere in the massive roll. Since when is an egg and cheese sandwich one small egg and a sliver of cheese? and what really ticks me off is that it is more expensive then the 3 delis near them that make a much better and larger sandwich! Never going back here! Go to Amici across the street for breakfast.

Sigh. I go to you because you’re downstairs from the job. That’s where all the business is anyway. That and theater moms wanting food for their kids. Their bagels are pretty cheap and tasty. That’s where things begin and end. As a picky person, there isn’t much for me to choose from. The veggie sandwiches aren’t that good. Lately I’ve been wanting soup, so I’ve gotten their soup a few times… BEWARNED: the letters on the tag does not mean what it means everywhere else. V= anywhere else this means vegetarian. Here, it means it contains vegetables. No duh. Most soup contains vegetables. D= now this means it contains dairy. Okay. Thanks Well, I got the seafood gumbo because I thought it only contained… seafood. Well 24 hours later and my body was telling me otherwise. I’m sure there was chicken stock in it because I was not feeling cute. At.All. Between that and being charged $ 1.00 extra for a spoonful of seafood in the bottom of my cup it definitely wasn’t worth it. Thanks Pax for making me an hour late for work the next day because of my bathroom obligations. Guess I’ll actually have to walk outside for lunch if I want something palatable.

No customer service here. It’s really a shame because I work nearby and I come in all the time. Everyone is very rushed even when it’s dead quiet. It would be really good if they worked on cultivating friendliness.

This place is WAY overpriced and over rated ! The guys who work here are total jerks and skipped over my order! When I got BACK In line I told them I never got my order and they made the order of about 3 people who had come in after me before they finally did mine. At that point I didn’t even WANT my order but I ate it and the eggs were runny and disgusting! Never going back!

I left my credit card here this afternoon. Once I realized what I had done, I was all the way back home in Queens. I raced back to the city, and the kind, honest staff opened up the locked front door for me, verified my identify, and returned my card to me safe and sound. Thanks for the excellent customer service!

Came here for lunch with a friend. We both ordered soup. She ordered a different soup than me but they accidentally gave her the same soup. We didn’t notice that until we paid and sat down. My friend opened the soup, looked at it, tasted it(and put the spoon aside without putting it back in the soup) and brought it back to the counter to tell them it was the wrong soup. They gave her the right soup but then they dumped her old soup back in the pot. It would unfortunately be a waste of money but they should have thrown out her old soup instead of reusing it. We will not be eating there again.

Another soup and sanwich shop around my work that screams out«OVERPRICED»! It wouldn’t of been so bad if the food was a bit bigger. You’re literally paying for the bread mostly since that’s what you’ll be tasting 90 percent of your bites. The food wasn’t horrible, it just wasn’t worth the money. turkey something zesto sandwich — 6.95 small soup — 3.95 Non Taxable — 1.00 Tax — .97 ~~~~~~~~~ total = 12.87 wtf is non taxable? ** oh and please give me a spoon next time so i dont’ drink my soup like a beer.

This marks my first time in a Pax Wholesome Foods. I stopped by hear to get a lunch without having to sit down in a restaurant or possibly get too much to eat. I ended up taking some of my sandwich with me & I’d not been here before but passed Pax many times so I figured it was time to stop in. I noticed that the counter people at least seemed to get along. They were joking around as I was doing check-ins & deciding what I wanted. I like that they have a «create your own» salad but didn’t like that they nickel & dime you on toppings; most of the other places offering this at least give you some free toppings like carrots, peppers, etc. I was concerned a salad there could cost more than Chop’t or Just Salad so I looked at sandwiches. I ended up selecting a chicken parm panini with marinara dipping sauce. Surprisingly, the marinara sauce was not terrible even though my taste for Italian food is far more sophisticated & finicky now. It was okay. Not the best I’ve had but average. I think I could make it better at home. I also got one of their chocolate stix. I thought it would have chocolate inside but it didn’t so I’m rather disappointed. I expected chocolate filling & not the hard crunch I experienced when I tried to eat it the next day. If you’re getting dessert here, just get a brownie or something. This location’s a little small with limited seating & the price is too high for my blood. I wouldn’t go here again unless I was in the neighborhood & there were no other grade A options.
