As someone who doesn’t drink alcohol, I can’t fully appreciate Pickle Shack in the way that other reviewers do. Instead, I have to get by on only some of the best food in Brooklyn. Dang. Sandwiches and fried appetizers shine the brightest. The prices seem about a dollar or two per item too high, which simultaneously keeps me from eating there more often and also constantly craving it. The vegan sourdough grilled cheese, warm cannellini bean spread, and smoked tofu bahn mi sandwiches are all top contenders for best of Brooklyn sandwiches. The cornmeal battered oyster mushrooms and fried hop pickles are flat out delicious, just let them cool when they hit your table or you might lose some of the skin on your hard palate. If you are extra hungry, but don’t feel like three entire pounds of fried food is a sensible option, try the grilled romaine and Tuscan kale salad– it’s better than a salad should be and stands on its own. Pickle Shack also has a nice selection of seasonal desserts that are also a bit on the pricey side, but have yet to disappoint in the flavor department.

Overall a great vegetarian spot. Plus they have dogfish head IPA – though it was from a bottle, not from the tap! Definitely not a cheap eats kind of place, so don’t get enamored by all the appetizers on the menu. The pickle sampler was nice to share, but nothing special other than the beets and the carrots(with chipotle). I didn’t think it was worth $ 7. The vegetarian burger($ 14) was«the best vegetarian burger I have ever had»(which, according to their sandwich board sign, is apparently a quote said by «most people»). Add fries for $ 4 and you got a good meal for a hefty $ 18. The roasted squash($ 7) was also delicious. Grilled cheese sandwich($ 11 or $ 12) was nice and large and quite tasty. Ricotta, eggplant and roasted squash sandwich($ 12) was delicious as well. The smoked tofu was incredible(+$ 4 to add as a side to any entrée) and probably one of my kids’ favorite things to eat on the menu. Next time, we’re only ordering them tofu. On a side note, I noticed there were trays of tofu near the floor(where the kitchen is open to the hallway by the bathroom) and people could easily kick up dust onto the open tray of tofu. I tried to put this out of my mind as my kids devoured their fifth tofu square. I think if I were to go here again, I would just get the sandwiches and skip the tasty but expensive apps.

Couldn’t wait for this place to open and love the new and much needed addition to the neighborhood. Pickle Shack has many great qualities but it could also use a bit of help. The name is almost a disservice to the amazing food — it’s no shack! We’ve tried almost everything on the menu and it’s all delicious. You go for the food and the great beer on tap. Now the cons, the service is hit or miss. Kenzie is a great bartender and plays good music — he couldn’t be more friendly. However, today we went and the 1 waitress was completely overwhelmed. She seemed flustered that people showed up at noon when the restaurant opened. Then1 person in our group got his food 15 minutes before everyone else. MIne came another 15 mins after the other two. The restaurant itself doesn’t maximize the space, there are not nearly enough tables for the interest and demand. The bar is huge and takes up so much space they miss the opportunity to have additional tables — so there’s usually a wait, especially on weekends. Since it’s a cool Brooklyn spot, no reservations. No list at the door. The place gets crowded. With that said, I’ll keep going and enjoying the delicious food and the next inventive, tasty meal the great chef comes up with — but don’t go expecting great, speedy service — just wonderful vegetarian food.

This was the tastiest meal I have had at a restaurant in at least 6 months. My friend & I split the seasonal pickle plate, the veggie burger & the bahn mi. Each item was full of so many flavors! The veggie burger was superb. Have you ever had a veggie burger you’ve thought that about? I was excited by this rich veggie burger and that is unheard of. In addition, the beer selection was large & delicious, plus our waitress was friendly and attentive while still being relaxed. Even the music was good — Stevie Wonder, Ike & Tina… all loud enough to appreciate but low enough to talk over. I straight up cannot think of a single criticism of this dining experience– and that never happens. Beyond yum.

Stopped here for lunch and it was the best choice I made all day! I’ve been veg for over 10 years and struggle to find creative, quality veg food in in Boston. This place wins. I had to try the fried pickles obviously. They were great and came with an aioli that was tasty. I ordered the Banh mi sandwich and it was the best. Super flavorful with the cilantro, avocado and smoked tofu. When I’m back in Brooklyn I will definitely come back. They also serve beer which is a plus for sure.

One of the top five veggie burgers in Brooklyn. Why four stars? Pros * The fries are great(with home made ketchup) * Their fried pickles & shiitake shrooms are good! Cons * They took fried artichokes off the menu :-(

Pickle shack is a cool spot for a drink or some fried pickles. Most people seem to want to sit in the back area, which feels like a closed in backyard. Personally I liked the bar space that feels pretty unintimidating. They have a strong beer collection, with a focus on Dogfish Head. I loved the fried pickles and had to control myself to not get a second order. The bartender wasn’t particularly friendly but it wasn’t the biggest deal. This is actually a great option to kill time if you are waiting for a table at Dinosaur BBQ, which is around the corner.

I consider myself a sandwich connoisseur, so when I saw this place’s menu, I was intrigued. One day I plan to open a $ 14 sandwich joint, so so can definitely appreciate he concept of creating a masterpiece sandwich and feel that a true gourmet ‘wich is worth it’s weight in gold… So naturally I dove right in and ordered the tofu banh mi sandwich, and had to hold the drool from dropping on the floor as I waited. My excitement was unfortunately short lived once I opened the sandwich and took a bite. This was one of the most disappointing sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. It barely resembled a banh mi, taste wise. It presented itself nicely when I looked at it, but the flavor of the sauce absolutely destroyed any hope for sandwich glory. It tasted like cheap sweet Russian dressing or something, and did not mix well with the main ingredients at all. I would implore the owners to re-evaluate your choice of sauce for this sandwich, as it makes zero sense in a banh-mi style sandwich. The tofu tasted great, at least. Definitely not worth the hefty price tag though, and it pains me to write that because I had such high hopes for this sandwich. Giving 3 stars for presentation and fresh ingredients + decent service, but nothing else made this anything more than average at best.

Brooklyn… The many food choices especially in the slope. This place is worth the walk, drive, or ride. The beers and ciders are a perfect pairing for some of their amazing foods especially the fried ones! Try these: The Bahn mi is vegan but so good. The fried oyster ‘shrooms are on point. The fried pickles… Why come to the«pickle» shack and not try these… You will not be disappointed with any of these and their desserts are pretty good too. The staff is typical brooklynites with their quirky hipster style and strange but amusing sense of humor.

Maybe it’s just a bad night? I’ve been here before and looked forward to have s great veggie burger in the beautiful little hidden backyard. WHATDIDYOUDO? Sadly the backyard feels more like a penitentiary. Ok, not that bad. But still! I feel like I went to find my hidden gem and it was knocked down with a trump condo in its place. Ok still not that bad. I’m just cranky because it was a long day and it’s s beautiful night and instead of sitting in an open air garden, I’m kinda outside but encased in metal. Instead of a nice breeze they had to slide a window open and stick an industrial fan there. Sad. Food was a bit off. I don’t remember the veggie burger tasting like a sloppy joe. Mushy and over seasoned. The pickles were good. So was the ketchup. Oh. And the service was very good.

During my third visit to this cosy place I tried a veg burger which was nice enough. Fries were not as I remembered, so I was a bit disappointed. I didn’t order the fried pickles this time. Service is always nice.

Veggie Burger Lover? Read on. The House Made Shack Veggie Burger is often on top 10 best Veggie Burger lists and deserves the honor. It is composed of mushrooms/veggies with bits of whole coriander and I believe fennel. I usually order it with one of the cheddar cheese options — which allows the slow mouth melt to occur at a faster rate. The hand cut french fries are a MUST have as well. One of the best in the area. Perfectly gooey inside, but firm and crisp at the outer edges and sprinkled with dill and sea salt. It rarely gets better than these fries. Those are the only two food items I ever order, the only two items that look interesting to me and I am sticking to it. Never fails.

As a life-time veggie, I can say without a doubt this is one of the best places in Brooklyn to venture to if you’re in the mood for vegetarian. Not only does this place offer great draft beers, but the multiple sandwiches that I’ve had here are phenomenal. Last summer: ricotta, heirloom tomatoes(I can’t remember if there was a spread or anything else). Last weekend: tofu with kimchi on a bed of grains(as opposed to a baguette). These tastes were so unique! The fried pickles starter come out HOT — be careful as I’ve burnt many tongues on chowing down these little guys. Albeit good, the dipping sauce isn’t my favorite for friend pickles. Then again, it could be yours! Lack of one star because last summer, their backyard area was open– meaning no roof(but shade provided). I went there last weekend to discover that they have covered the entire thing. I get that they wanted to make it an all-year kind of area, but they should’ve made the ceiling retractable or something, because sitting in their backyard while soaking in the sun was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, this will no longer be the case!

VEGGIEBURGER. You MUST get this if you are in Pickle Shack. Or even in the neighborhood! The patty and bread MELTS into your mouth. The only burger that I could think of that comes close to this level of euphoria is the one at Umami. Their famous fried pickles on the other hand was too much for me. I thought I loved pickles but you must REALLY love pickles to be able to enjoy this little appetizer. One fried pickle slice packs a lot of pickle power! I can’t comment on the beer as I didn’t have any but I can tell you that the staff here definitely knows their beer and are happy to share that knowledge with you.

If you have an open mind about vegetarian food and love great beers, then Pickle Shack is your place. My first time here was for a Unilocal event(their backyard is awesome in the summer). And I finally made my way back a few months later. They always have rotating beers from Dog Fish Head(which is part owner of the place). The first time I was here, I had their beer made specifically for the Firefly Festival, which was amazing. This time around I had the OC Class Warfare, which was darker, but easy drinking. I also ordered the smoked tofu banh mi. As far as sandwiches go, it was great. Chunky slices of tofu and generous portions of avocado. Also a side of vinegary hot sauce. However, as far as banh mi’s go, I don’t think it could replace a real deal one. Especially without Sriracha and a source of umami. Their pickles are from Brooklyn Brine(yeah, a place named Pickle Shack doesn’t make their own pickles). I had the ones that were deli style, and they were just okay. I’ve made better pickles before. All in all, Pickle Shack is a solid place for beers or for vegetarian/lighter fare.

The only negative thing I have to say is to myself: WHYDIDN’T YOUINVESTIGATESOONER??? I had walked by Pickle Shack many times and was intrigued but just could not seem to get myself there. Well, that changed in early February and I have been a number of times since and am presently making my way through every item on the menu. SOUP I have had Black Bean, Minestrone, Cream of Sunchoke-all have been really delicious! SANDWICHES Smoked Tofu Bahn Mi-YUUUUUM Hot Smoked BBQ Pulled Oyster Mushroom-really tasty if you have a carnivore friend who is dubious about vegetarian food I would recommend this. It is really crazy how flavorful the mushrooms are. House Made Veggie Shack Burger-pretty good with the aioli-the buns/bread on all the sandwiches. Warm Canellini Bean Sprad on Baguette-gets a little messy. I am not that into beer but have had a few of the specials that they have on tap. The greenhouse out back is heated and will no count be crowded come summer.

I’m in love. This place has fresh, amazing, vegetarian food. It reminds me of the food that I used to eat when I lived in the south. I visited this place back over the summer and I still can’t stop thinking about that Veggie Banh Mi! The Veggie Banh Mi is the perfect combination of greens and carrots that are pickled in house, smoked tofu, and a creamy but spicy sauce on the side. The bread it’s served on has a nice crisp crust and soaks up the delicious sauce. Now if that wasn’t enough, the fries it is served with are perfection as well. They are perfectly crisp and full of potato goodness. Oh and top that off with some homemade ketchup and it just doesn’t get any better! We also had the fried pickles. They come served in a cute little cast iron pan. The pickles were amazing. They’re the hop pickles from the pickle factory next door. They have this umami flavor going on that must come from the hops. I couldn’t get enough of them! I asked to purchase some, but unfortunately they were sold out of the jars that were for sale. I found some at Whole Foods later that week though for $ 8 a jar! Those pickles aren’t cheap, but once you taste them, you really won’t care how much you paid. Prices at the Pickle Shack are very fair and reasonable though for the quality and portion size of the food. Service is excellent! I am the pickiest person on earth when it come to beer. I like about four beers in the world. I told the waiter what I liked which is basically incredibly sour beer. He recommended the Gose beer and I gave it a go since it was only $ 5. It was delicious! Nice and tart and lemony, which is just the way I like it. I’m planning on going back here tomorrow, and I’m super excited. If you love good vegetarian food and beer, this is where it is at!

Pickle Shack is in my old nabes’ by way of South Park Slope. It’s a vegetarian bar with an assortment of house-pickled options, vegan beers and delicious food items. Last time I was here I had the vegan banh mi(mantra: banh mi… banh mi… banh mi… [sorry, inside joke]) and a vegan stout(I didn’t even know this was possible!) The banh mi(banh mi… banh mi… banh mi…) was amazing! Of course, the freshly pickled veggies from a pickle-pro certainly helped up the ante(get it, boo?) We sat outside — yes in the winter — in a covered and heated patio. It was nice, and the atmosphere, while perhaps lacking some background music, was relaxing and peaceful. All in all, a nice carb-loaded way to wrap up the indoor rock climbing adventure!

What’s the dill with Pickle Shack? Well for starters did you know that aside from their vegan/vegetarian friendly menu, most of their beer selection is vegan. Pickle Shack has an extensive beer list so you’ll be certain to find a brew for even the most pickle of friends! I had the Prairie Ales Bomb a delicious stout made with espresso beans and hints of chocolate which was a combination of dark, sweet, and bitter flavors. I would certainly recommend this if you want to try something new. I had the vegan pulled oyster mushroom sandwich with bbq sauce and cole slaw, which was amazing. Their hand cut fries were really good, I like my fries as I do my friends, non-greasy! I’ll likely try the fried pickles the next time around(the batter is vegan too!). The dining experience was great, despite the $ 1 charge for extra condiments(that was the best mustard I’d ever had).
