Arrived in NY and we went to PJ Bernstein which was always my wife’s favorite. It was so so. My split pea soup came out partially cold and warm like it was microwaved, but not long enough. Pastrami was a little too salty. Will give it another try next time we return.

I have tried the chicken soup and until now it is the best I have ever tried. I recommend Pj for its quality and the perfect service they provide.

I’ve been going to PJ’s for many years and their quality and consistency has been very good. Their servers are friendly as is the management and their prices are not out of line. True, there are better kosher and kosher-style delis in Manhattan, but there are also many, many worse. PJ’s is more of a neighborhood place to me and doesn’t have the name recognition of the Second Avenue or Carnegie or some others. Go, you’ll like it!

People here are so RUDE! They think you are giving them a favor. They are bunch of dollar-sucking-service people. Once you order by phone they ask you if you’re giving cash tip. The person who answers the phone and takes your order has no manners at all. This place is A WASTEOFTIMEANDMONEY. FOODISNOTGOOD: BLANDANDTOOSALTY!!!

Hands down best deli on UES and maybe in whole city. Corned Beef on rye, matzoh ball soup and any of the sides are my go-to’s. Delivery on seamless is fast and super easy.

My go to when I am sick. Kind of like an East side Fine and Shapiro. Not perfect, but pretty damn good and when you are under the weather PJ Bernstein will get your Jewish Penicillin on for you.

The food is delicious. Unfortunately, the maitre d’ is rude. He make what he thinks are dramatically witty comments about the customers. Very uncomfortable. Counter service is spotty. On every occasion, I have been missing something when I got home. Since I do not live in walking distance, it is a loss. I will go to Second Avenue Deli in the future.

Decent Matzoh ball soup and corned beef sandwich. Not too much flavor. I might return and try something else because it’s so close to where I live but ultimately it doesn’t stand up to the big boys. Sorry PJ

The manager is a liar! Love the food and have been eating their food since I’m 4 but I am officially saying goodbye to this local eats. I am seething to the point that I will never eat here again! Never. If you want my story I will gladly share but to waste my time writing a crap review on a restaurant that is one of more than enough NYC delicatessen’s in New York… I will find another. Shame on you Bernsteins!!! Shame on you,

The food is still good here but they now charge. 40 cents for each additional slice of bread and 75 cents!!! for a pickle slice. It is like eating soul food made of platinum!

First off this is no diner. Second, they don’t have too many prices listed or even menu options listed. I asked about breakfast sandwiches. They had no turkey or beef bacon or beef sausage. So I ordered bacon and egg on a roll. Notice I said egg. NOTEGGS as in two. I didn’t ask for cheese, nor did I get cheese. When my order was cooked it was wrapped in foil. The cashier had to clarify twice what was wrapped in the foil so he could charge correctly. I herd the cook tell him twice but maybe the cashier didn’t hear. $ 6.95 + $.62 tax =$ 7.57

I’ve been to PJ’s twice within the last month and felt that I just had to post my review. My friends and I were there for a late breakfast and we wanted to bring another meal home. I had the challah french toast… out of this world! My friends had large fluffy pancakes and blintzes. They seemed to be extremely satisfied. We had yummy large cups of hot chocolate, that was the perfect beverage to go with our scrumptious breakfast. I went back about 2 weeks ago with a different friend. I was curious to see how she would like the Jewish deli style cuisine. She had chopped liver and a massive pastrami sandwich. Well, I don’t know who was salivating more. I had potato perogie and the BEST chicken noodle soup I’ve had as far as I can remember!!! For dessert, we both had the decadent ice cream sundae… forgot what they called it, but it was decadent! I will make a point of passing PJ’s as much as I can, even if it’s just to grab a meal to take home. The staff was so accommodating and it had the feel of a neighborhood place. I plan on becoming a regular… thank you PJ’s, can’t wait to come back!

This is a great kosher style restaurant! We ordered our food via seamless(my latest obsession). We had: Matzo ball soup — delicious Knish(not fried) — so so good! Pastrami Sandwich — terrific Roast Beef with Cheese Sandwich — Great and rare Tuna Fish Salad — Very good In my opinion, this place is better than 2nd Avenue Deli. The staff is really nice — they called us when they didn’t have a plain bagel for my daughter’s tuna fish. We will definitely order from them again!

Certainly not the best Jewish deli in the city; however, not a bad choice either. I enjoyed my hot pastrami sandwich. My son’s hamburger platter with fries looked fantastic but he did not eat much of it. My mom raved about her tuna sandwich platter. My ex and my daughter spit a large bowl of chicken soup with matzoh balls; they loved it. My ex-mother-in-law seemed to enjoy her half-order of a hot corned beef sandwich. I like this place but I think Carnegie Deli or 2nd Avenue deli are likely better choices for this type of fare

So I came home last night, not too hungry, I opened my fridge and found the bag pictured below. Curious that I am, of course I am opening the bag to pick at my husband’s left overs. He says it’s a Reuben sandwich, I am immediately turned off, ugh corned beef, gross. But still, I’ve tried ’cause I could hear my mom«don’t say you don’t like it until you try it.» OMG. First of all, this was half of his sandwich, filling up an entire entrée size container, there must have been something like half a pound of meat in this entire thing lol. Anyway, I’ve tried the meat and didn’t stop eating it until there was only cold melted cheese, pieces of cabbage and a soggy slice of bread in the box, just like that, right standing in the kitchen. Best corned beef ever. Just best, nicely sliced, awesomely packed and perfectly seasoned. –salivating–

How much can good food alone get you. How much rudeness should you endure? Their food is good, but I finally stopped going to the restaurant due to their rudeness. Then I started with Seamless to avoid having to speak to their rude personnel. Then they would ignore any special instructions, and said if you put any special instructions you have to call each time. They would not give you what you ordered and readjust the bill, like all other businesses do. I complained to Seamless, and the rude woman I encountered at PJ’s also hung up on Seamless. They called the manager, who at first was nice, said he would call when he got to the reataurant. He did, then was very rude to Seamless as well, said he didn’t need my business or their’s, and would not speak to me. Ownership is on the hook here. When will you get people who serve your restaurant well. This has been going on for years!

PJ Bernstein’s is a great neighborhood Jewish deli. I was in the area and actually looking for something exactly like this place, and it held up to expectations. The corned beef and swiss sandwhich I ordered was stacked tall on fresh rye bread and the pickle on the side was the perfect compliment. The owner/manager of this place was very friendly and accomodating and let me sit down to eat my sandwhich after making the mistake of ordering my food to go. Though I have only been into this deli 1 time, it was worth my time to write a review and I will certainly go back in when I am in the area.
