This lovely place! I passed by once and took the time on this slushy afternoon to look for it. I knew I would love the old-school feel of it, the sweet lady at the counter, the design and the freshest pastries! If I can afford it, I’ll be returning to treat myself.

Really good authentic Greek bakery. We found out about it on a food tour while visiting there the week of Christmas. We tried the baklava rolls and they were delicious. The owners very very sweet and friendly as well to accommodate our large group.

Sorry, 3 stars. I had tried this place before I went to Pi Bakery in Soho, I might have given Poseidon definitely 4 stars. Spinach pie, meat pie, custard pie(or called ‘galaktoboureko’)… I’d rather go to Pi Bakery in Soho. I took a long time for me to stop by this place after 4 years I lived in Hell’s Kitchen. Poseidon opens from Tuesday to Saturdays, from 9am to 7pm, so it was hard to stop by for those like me who take off work late night. I finally stepped inside at close to 7pm on Tuesday evening. The bakery inside is decorated with kids’ drawing and family photos, all of which seem to show that the bakery has been long run by a family owner. Pies were good, price was decent. But not amazed. Maybe I was too addicted to Pi Bakery.

Excellent neighborhood Greek bakery and the owners are the nicest most genuine people I have ever come across in the neighborhood. I truly love this place and will continue to spread the word on this great place!

Discovered this place the last time i lived in NY in 2009. Recently i’ve had a craving for galaktoboureko so decided to make the trip. I really like this place. It reminds me of all the old Italian/Greek/Maltese pasticcerie they used to have all over soho(London) before they all got taken over by hipster coffee shops/fashion boutiques… a simpler time. The galaktoboureko is very good, not quite as good as some of the slices of it i’ve had in Greece(Varsos Kifissia outside Athens blew my f*@%ing mind!) but it’s still a very tasty little treat, and quite probably the best you’re going to find in manhattan.

Words in all capitals to infer yelling: Greece, baklava, phyllo dough, honey, pistachio pistachio PISTACHIO. Literally the best. No wonder the Greek economy is collapsing. What does that even mean? I don’t know. Baklava.

I’m not into honey soaked pastries so don’t listen to me if you like them :). I took assortment of pasties to try, knowing they were going to be too sweet for my liking. I did like their spinach & meat pie, which is on the savory side. I’m giving this place 4-stars because the shells used for the pastries were really soft and they were all very fresh. Not to forget, the owner was super sweet and he recommended a few things for me to try. The little bakery has that authentic feel to it, as if someone just picked up the entire store from Astoria and placed it in the Hell’s Kitchen area of NYC. Recommendation: Spinach & Meat Pie if you want something on the savory side

As soon as I discovered Poseidon Bakery(during work hours, no less), I picked up all my stuff and rushed out to get some delicious Greek pastries before anyone could say«Conference call in 10.» The bakery itself is unassuming. Honestly, I did not even realize it existed despite looking straight at it for many, many times. On the shelves are assortments of pastries, savory and sweet, such as apple, apricot, cherry strudels, as well as the spinach and meat pastries. The kind lady who helped me recommended a flaky pastry with custard inside, that was still a bit warm from the oven. Hell yes! You had me at custard, yet I don’t even know how to pronounce the real name of this creation. Sorry, readers. I also got a baklava, since I’ve never had one before. Total was $ 8.50 for 2 pastries, which was actually quite expensive if you look at the portions. The custard pastry was amazing. I can keep eating those all day! I will definitely be back for more; it’s the beginning of a new addiction. Let me tell you something: baklavas are the stickiest substance known to man. I felt like some alien substance has infected everything I touched. I kept licking my fingers, like a cat, before I had to wash my hands and wipe everything I touched off with a paper towel. Overall, the baklava was a tad too sweet for me, but paired well with coffee. The crust stayed crispy, and flakey even though I left it in the bag overnight. Come here for great pastries. Try something you’ve never had before.

Go here now for spinach pies and greek treats made with the finest ingredients. Everything looks so delicious it is hard to choose but whatever you select is guaranteed to be amazing. As an added treat the store has a lovely, genuine old New York feel to it.

Location: poseidon really stands out in Hell’s Kitchen area. Their light blue sign has been attracting my attention for a long time. But I do not know why I never pluck my courage to take a look at the store. Nevertheless, finally, I am here. This place is pretty small and i doubt that there is any seat available to sit and eat. So it is a perfect place to grab and to go. Food: of course, I tried their meat pie as well as spinach pie. In addition, I got the pineapple cheese strude?! I love their meat pie but I am addicted to the cheese pineapple thing. It is not too sweet, creamy, stuff with texture, omg, the best thing I ever had so far among all bakeries in NYC. The only thing I wish they could improve is their spinach pie. I really would love to have more cheese textures mixed with spinach. Oh, and the crust is cripsy and de’icious. I am really thinking about going back again and craving some more. Price and service: the guy is nice and welcomg and answered so many my questions. My only concern with this store is their price. Although portion is big, the price is still pricy as a bakery shop. Overall: a 4.5 stars. And by the time I am writing my review, I am already thinking about going back and have some again. Try some or you will miss a big surprise

I was upset after coming here, especially after reading the good reviews. $ 4 for one tiny piece of baklava? Please. It tastes good but I could get same quality for cheap at a supermarket. Never coming here again.

5 stars for taste but 2 stars for prices. The $ 4 baklava piece I got was flaky, delicious, and sweet, but super tiny and I definitely didn’t get my money’s worth.

No seating, just display cases and cases of baklava and other delicious greek treats. They also have large platters of spinach pies and such. They don’t cater — as in they do not deliver and do not heat it up for you. They will sell you giant trays of delicious baklava, etc that you can pickup and take home though. The person behind the counter told me that many caterers in NY will buy from them to use at the events they are hosting. Might be a good place to stop and pickup a tray of something yourself for a dinner party, event nearby. We bought 4 different pastries(I’m ashamed to say I don’t rememer the names!) The baklava was excellent. I also really enjoyed one pastry that had what looked like crunchy strings on the top — the texture was very nice. The all pistachio pastry was a little more meaty and less sweet than the others. Lastly, we had a spinach and cheese flaky dough pastry that was amazing. Would definitely come back and simple some more treats.

Pros Galaktoboureko Finikia Cons None — I wish they sold fresh bread as well. One of the best finds in the neighborhood. The owners are super nice and will answer all your questions.

This place is like walking into someone’s home, warm and friendly. They have a huge selection of different types of sweets, I picked out seven different kinds and three of them I really enjoyed, the galaktobureko, and the triangular shaped one and a round one with pistachio on top(idk the names). The others were good too. The lady who served me was so nice, she let me take my time and told me what each dessert was and put on a fresh pot of coffee for me! Next time I want some greek desserts I’ll be back.

The spanakopita and baklava(layered) are great, though a little pricey at $ 5 and $ 4 per piece, respectively. The woman who served me(owner?) was friendly.

WOW– what a an adorable & delicious bakery! Their baklava had the perfect amount of honey and sweetness… They also had a cookie that is dipped in honey as SOON as it comes out of the oven… it was beyond words delicious. I’m sorry I can’t remember the name! Go for a small piece at $ 1 or a large on at $ 3.50… try a few things out– this looks like a family-owned and family-run business in the heart of the food district(hell’s kitchen). WORTH the stop. I will be taking baked goods back to NJ with me frequently because this place is truly that good. They also have spinach pie and some savory items. Thank you Poseidon!

This Greek bakery has both savory and sweet classic Greek goods. There are no frills here, just an authentic bakery with a warm, old school, family vibe. They let the treats speak for themselves. And, though some items hard to pronounce, they do… in Greek, of course. I’ve had many Baklavas in my day, and, I figured that an authentic Greek Bakery is where I should be trying new things. First, I tried Afali(fun fact: it means«birds nest»), which has a roll of chopped pistachios surrounded by phyllo and dipped in honey. It tastes just as good as it sounds, maybe better. The honey soaked phyllo is slightly crisp and tender at the same time, covering a mound of chopped pistachios that balance out the sweetness. Then, I got Galaktoboureko, a rich custard wrapped in phyllo. This was awesome too. Again, you have that great sweetness and texture of the phyllo, and then theres a slightly sweet and creamy custard that I would describe as almost tapioca like. I recommend using a fork to dig in.

Shut the front door! This bakery is the real deal. Take a little walk to the lovely Greek bakery in the heart of New York. As you enter, you’ll be taken back to a time when the bakery goods were made by scratch using Yaya’s family recipes and the baker actually remembers your name! This is a place where you’re not just a number, but rather you’ll feel like you’re a customer that’s been coming for years even if its your first time. Welcome to the«Good ol’ days»! If you’re looking for the ultimate comfort dessert, a dessert that’s creamy and melts in your mouth then you have to order a Galaktoboureko. I can’t tell you how to pronounce it, but what I can tell you is it’ll haunt you in your dreams! When I purchased one it was cold. Not being able to wait, I took a bit and it was delicious. Then I decided to ask the owner if he had a microwave to warm it. He said, «No microwave, only oven. Give me 10 minutes, it’ll be perfect.» He was right. Perfection. Just between you and me, even though I love this place, my husband and I agree that my Spanakopita is better. Just preference I’m sure.
