Candela is the best brow artist I have ever worked with. She brought my brows back to life after years of bad waxing, threading and plucking. A genius with symmetry, professional and a perfectionist to the core.

This place is definitely my new waxing spot! I wanted a trustworthy place close enough that I can walk to and decided to give Proper Puss a try after I saw all the other positive reviews. I was a little nervous to get my first Brazilian but Rachael was friendly, accommodating and professional. The place was immaculate and the service was wonderful. I had such a positive experience and recommended it to several of my friends who are also first timers! I am 100% going back.

This is a wonderful neighborhood spot — clean and professional ambience. Rachel is courteous and professional. The lavender wax she uses smells nice and she is very gentle. Highly recommend to remove all those pesky hairs. Plus she offers laser too!

Rachael is the absolute BEST hands down. She used to wax me back in the day at Rasa Spa in Ithaca, where I was shocked to learned how painless she could make waxing feel! When she broke off to form her own business, Proper Puss, everyone in college town had to see her! Finding out that she was coming to NYC was the greatest news. After 6+ years living in Manhattan and getting waxed at the typical spots I grew accustom to the quick (and somewhat painful) wax with high $$$$. I saw Rachael yesterday and… WOW!!! She has a skill!!! Everything from her salon décor to her warm and friendly demeanor (and fantastic stories for your entertainment), she is a MUST VISIT. I don’t live near the West Village, but I’d make the trip for her any day! I highly advise you try it!

I’ve been visiting the Ithaca location religiously since 2014. Recently I moved to Manhattan, and am so excited Proper Puss opened in New York. I had my first Brazilian with Rachael and as someone with very low pain threshold, I was surprised how fast and painless the entire process was. I’ve been to LOTS of waxing places when I travel, but Rachael is hands down the best waxer ever. There has never been an «oops» moment. I’ve never had to use a brow pencil to hide the awkward angle after a brow wax. The place is absolutely spotless, strictly no double-​dipping and has everything you need. The online appointment system is also super easy to work with. Rachael put a lot of thoughts into the design of the place. It has a nice chic and relaxing vibe. If I could give Proper Puss 10 stars, I totally would!

Amazing laser treatment service. The place is impeccably clean and Rachel is so sweet and professional. She walks you through the whole process and the equipment is top notch. They are always running specials and when you consider the price of waxing it’s so worth it. Best decision I ever made.

Finally — a perfect place in the West Village for those appointments that keep a girl looking effortlessly manicured! Rachael is wonderful and the shop is extremely clean with a cool vibe. All services are professionally managed while you feel like you just popped in to visit with a friend. I highly recommend paying Rachael a visit as we head in to Spring/​Summer to get yourself ready! Check off that list and get yourself bikini perfect!

Hands down the best place I’ve ever been to get my eyebrows down. I’ll start at the beginning: I walked in and the first thing I noticed is that the place is adorable. The couches in the waiting area are clean and comfortable, and the whole place has kind of a chic Victorian theme.
I got there a little early, and a woman ahead of me was getting a Brazillian. Now, I have not yet gotten a Brazillian from Proper Puss, so I can’t tell you what it felt like, but I can tell you what it sounded like: silent. No screams, Unilocal,groans, or even sharp intakes of breath. I’ve had a Brazillian, and I’ve heard people get them before, so it definitely struck me that this woman made absolutely no noise at all.
Now, about my turn. First of all, Rachael makes you feel immediately comfortable. She was very personable and relaxed, so there was no awkwardness whatsoever. She led me into one of the rooms, which was incredibly clean. I won’t go to a salon if I’m unsure about the cleanliness, but believe me when I tell you that this room was spotless.
I hopped up on the table, and she wiped off my eyebrows, snipped them a little, and then applied the wax. I winced, waiting for the pain. I hate getting my eyebrows done because it hurts like a bitch. She pressed a strip into the wax, ripped it off and… nothing. It didn’t hurt. I totally understood the lack of noise from the first woman now, the wax they use is amazing! She finished up my eyebrows and my lip, and showed me a mirror, asking if it was ok. She shaped them beautifully, not too thin at all. The awful redness that usually accompanies getting my face waxed was barely visible. It’s now about an hour later, and there is no redness at all. My face feels incredibly moisturized and my eyebrows look great. It was quick, painless, and reasonably priced. Needless to say, I will be coming back.

Went there several weeks ago and it was a great experience. It’s my first laser hair removal for underarm and the result turns out amazing! Planning to go for the second one!!!

The shop is beautifully decorated and conveniently located. I just had my second laser hair removal appointment for Brazilian and underarm.
The owner is very skilled and professional, and yet her personality makes you feel like you’re an old girlfriend which is comforting when you’re getting your private areas zapped with a laser… She is also very knowledgeable about skin care and will guide you through what you should do to prevent or treat ingrown hairs (I have some leftover from waxing) or really any other skin care/​hair removal issues you have.
The laser itself is less painful than waxing and much much quicker. Another nice thing is the pain doesn’t linger for hours, it’s there and gone in an instant. I might be moving out of the city this summer, but if I’m still in town I’m definitely going to return to Proper Puss for my legs next winter! Highly recommend

Second trip into NYC and my second visit to Proper Puss. This time I ventured out a bit and tried the Laser hair treatment on my back. I’m sure I was a big baby, but I was in good hands with Rachel making sure I was comfortable during the entire treatment. I’m ready checking my calendar for my next trip back …

What a gem in west village! Such a beautiful and sassy atmosphere for waxing and laser hair removal. Rachel the owner is super sweet and attentive. She was very patient with all my questions and made me feel very comfortable and at home. I was nervous about my first time laser treatment because I have been loyal to my wax lady for 5 years but the experience was great! Totally recommend this place!

I just had my first laser hair removal session on my underarms… It was SO FAST & PAINLESS! I will definitely be back for the remaining sessions, 6 weeks is my next recommended… The vibe of the space is so fun and chic, I love it! And Rachel, the founder, is truly an expert at her craft: waxing, skincare, laser treatments… You’ll be in amazing hands! Highly recommend :)

It was a wonderful experience. After being long overdue for a wax and walking in the West Village, I stumbled upon this cozy, chic space that I saw had waxing. I was particularly drawn to the unique name of the Waxing studio. Rachel was kind enough to take me right away. Typically after being long overdue for waxes, I’m always hesitant that it will be a bit more painful than normal, but this was a lovely and pleasant experience and probably one of the least painful waxes that I’ve gotten thus far. The staff is super friendly and welcoming and it’s nestled in a lovely location in the West Village, that’s modern but also gives a neighborhood feel. It was definitely a proper wax, and I’m looking forward to my next appointment.

Had a great experience with Suzanne. Had my lower legs and bikini done. This was all very new to me and I was rather nervous but she had a great personality and was very calming. It only hurt in certain places but I guess that’s normal for everybody and she walked me through it and told me to breathe! She also told me about follow-​up care and exfoliating. Will definitely return here for the next treatment when needed

I have been a regular at Proper Puss in Ithaca since 2014. Rachel, the owner, is vibrant, welcoming and is very serious about the business — which means keeping all aspects of service offered perfect. For example cleanliness which is a BIG plus! I have never been to a waxing place in NYC or USA which focuses so much on cleanliness. The new proper puss in NYC is beautifully decorated and reflects Rachel’s hard work, soul and personality.
Rachel’s years of strong experience with waxing and service industry reflects on the service she offers. The waxing is painless and fast and she knows her work. The prices are moderate, you really get value out of the money you spend.
In short, I love going to Proper Puss and I am so glad Rachel moved to NYC when I moved here. I am getting a laser service with her soon, which I am very excited about.
