Puppy Loft

I have taken my dog Milo to Puppy Loft for past year. I am consistently impressed with the service that I receive:
— Milo is always enthusiastic to see Lori and Jonathan which tells me that he enjoys visiting Puppy Loft
— His grooming is excellent
— Lori and Jonathan are great with last-​minute plan changes. I have returned from trips early on two occasions, and they accommodated early check-​outs. They also have a great after-​hours check-​out policy that has allowed me to pick up Milo after they close for the evening and save him from being boarded any longer than necessary
I cannot imagine taking Milo anywhere else!

I brought in my poodle and it came out a German Shepard and they wouldn’t reimburse me. The owner told me he was the best groomer in town and Edward Scissorhands scraped my dogs cornea and now he can’t see. He wears an eye patch now and he doesn’t know me anymore because he can’t see me. I hope he owner knows what it feels like to live in a dark alley alone and by himself. The manager Lori is a complete bafoon and she had the worst haircut I’ve ever seen. She sucks and so does this groomer.

This review is long overdue. Lori and Jonathan are absolutely fantastic! We’ve only used the Puppy Loft for daycare and bathing (not grooming or boarding) and our experience has been better than we could have ever hoped for! Our 4 lb Morkie, Tucker, considers this his second home. We take him there at least once a week; sometimes more. Every time we arrive, he is excited and ready to see his doggy friends. They always have someone in the room to watch the pups as well as keep it clean and I love the fact that the room has a ton of things (balls, trampoline, a slide) to keep them occupied. We call in from work from time to time to see how he’s doing and they always knows exactly what’s going on and encourage us to call and check-​in anytime. They periodically will send us home with report cards (we love these!) and during the holidays, they have a Halloween costume party and this past year they took a picture of our boy and made a Christmas Tree ornament! It was so unexpected and our favorite highlight to date. When we bring him home, he is usually wiped out (a good sign that he is getting plenty of activity). We’ve found that the interaction with other dogs has been great for him and now he’s been dubbed by Jonathan as the unofficial «greeter» for all the new small pups that come. They do spray a cleaner on him when he leaves, which we don’t mind at all. It’s a «fresh» smell. We’ve had them give him baths a few times for us and each time it has been perfect. I also love that they have a few different day-​care puppy packages: the quick «happy hour», ½ day and full day. We recently moved Uptown but still make the commute to Chelsea because we have not found a place as good as Puppy Loft!

We were loyal clients for over six years, but after a recent grooming appointment that was less than satisfactory, we will not be returning.
Like many others who have left their reviews about Puppy Loft, I have to agree that the manager, Lori is partly why we didn’t feel like valued clients.
After I brought my dog home from the grooming appointment, I noticed the areas above her eyes were red and she kept rubbing them. In addition, the haircut was completely uneven and choppy. This wasn’t the first time she came back uneven, but we usually just let it grow in and shape it up ourselves.
I wrote a letter to the owner of Puppy Loft, explaining everything and included photos of my dog’s eyes and the haircut for documentation. Lori responded 4 days later.
She informed me that «Some dogs are more anxious or agitated than others and tend to move a lot during grooming, which makes more difficult to reach even lines in some occasions.» I guess that explains the uneven haircut?
She also told me she spoke with the groomer who has been taking care of my dog over the years, his report that day, «just the usual that she moves quite a lot and had a few hair mats.» So that explains why she came back with her eyes red and patchy?
Lori, I know how dogs behave under stressful situations I have two of them. I was inquiring as to why I sent my dog to get groomed at your business and she came back looking like she tried to cut her own bangs.
The runaround I got of how the grooming process works and an explanation of pre existing skin conditions/​allergies basically conveyed to me that Puppy Loft takes no responsibility.
In the end I was offered 40% off my next grooming appointment. What good is that going to do me if I’m never going back!

I love this place so much. Incredible customer service! Every time that I’m running late they always find me a solution. I also left my dog overnight few times and when I return to pick she up I was happy because she was happy as well. I don’t understand I why few people left some negative review considering that I know the manager and the staff and I can guaranty they are all very nice and polite with us and the dogs… They take good care of all of us.

The manager Lori has a bitter, rude, mean attitude.
First the manager didn’t make our appointment correctly, then refused to accept our dog simply because we didn’t want the blow dry service (we offered to pay extra for not having this service).
It’s just a horribly run place.

Horrible grooming, horrible service. My puppy came back looking horrendous and completely different than what I had expected and communicated. His eyes also started drooping right after his cut so I now need to get him checked with the vet. He came back with his fur uneven and he no longer resembled a cockapoo (reference photo).
After complaining to the manager that they cut off 3 inches + of my puppy’s fur instead of 1 inch as i communicated, she rudely criticized me for asking for a 1 inch cut as that qualifies as a «trim» not a cut.
To be honest, because of the convenience of the location, I may have come back and given this place a second try. However, the attitude of the woman who works here is outrageous and utterly unprofessional. If you want an ounce of decent customer service, avoid this place by all means. If you want a decent cut, avoid this place by all means.

This place gives absolutely the worst haircuts. I sent my puppy there this morning and he came home looking like a completely different dog with uneven fur length. Would not recommend this place!

WARNING: do not leave your dog at this place! Absolutely terrible. Completely messed up my dog’s haircut. Our puppy looks so ugly now! We had shown them a picture of what his hair should look like and they completely messed it up. So angry. Went to talk to them and they were being defensive and quite rude. Do not come here!

I use puppy loft for daycare and boarding and I absolutely love it. I’ve used other day cares before and they don’t even come close. The staff is responsible and clearly take good care of the dogs. They’re very flexible and always put up with my changing schedule and find a way to accommodate last minute requests for boarding or transportation. My dog loves it there.

All I can say is I would NOT trust this place ever for grooming!!! Denying that this is a Clipper Cut! I am still in shock !! And there was no apology no concern. The Manager Lori is most useless person ever ! For 3 hours she was checking cameras and after my second call she claims it’s an allergy. Still no concern. I had been using them for 5 years but last few times I noticed the shabby work ! STAY AWAY if you love your furry children

I Love Puppy Loft, the service is amazing and the groomer Salvador is very professional, friendly and he treats my puppy like a king

I had a bad experience with Coco and Toto
so I tried taking my dog down to Chelsea to Puppy Loft at my dog trainer’s recommendation.
They use positive reinforcement which is great– my dog trainer had a huge problem with Coco & Toto spraying water at the dogs’ face.
I like that they separate the big and little dogs so I don’t have to worry about my little guy getting stepped on .I wish there was a bigger area for dogs to run– but you can’t have it all– and I would prefer they separate by size.
They knew my dog’s name after the first day and I love the report cards showing who he played with.
Perhaps the best part are the employees. Jonathan is the best. He is ALWAYS there so I wonder if he ever gets a day off? He goes out of his way to accommodate. I am having trouble getting the webcam to work on my iphone so he is currently looking up instructions and emailing them to me.
Only reason they don’t get 5 stars is my pup always comes home vaguely smelling like cleaner. I think someone else mentioned it below and thought it smelled like anesthesia. I don’t think anesthesia has a smell… the smell is definitely just cleaner.
It is good that they clean up right away to prevent germs so you’ve got to pick your battles. I won’t pick that one.
I WILL schlep 30 blocks to Puppy Loft because it’s worth it.

There isn’t a word in the dictionary that can describe how awful this place is. It uses to be great I once wrote a great review and things changed. The owner is useless the manager will blame the owner. My dog was attacked and brought to the hospital. They would ask when is Emmett coming back when is Emmett coming back because Emmett went to service dog school. I made the biggest mistake allowing him back. He had been attacked twice there. First time the owner of the other dog was nice enough to hire a trainer for aggression to work with this dog. The second dog was asked NOT to come back. I told them Emmett is NOT allowed in the room with any toys no balls. If there is a Ball please give Emmett his toy that I supplied and let him play downstairs. I don’t even get a call. I call to check on the dog and make arrangements for him to sleep over for a couple days go through a whole schedule for him and his brother. I am told Lori is on a conference call… Come to find out my dog was being attacked at that moment by a boarding dog named Lou. Not the dogs fault Puppy Lofts fault why because there was a ball in the room and Lou wanted it. at no point on the call do you tell me that my 10,000 dog is being attacked? Then you tell me I rush to the hospital he’s not there. She is having a casual conversation with someone when I run in. Dogs ear is falling off but let me talk a little. The staff all changed the place went down hill fast. I asked for the dog that attacked him’s records so I could ensure he had his shots. Answer NO won’t give you them. IF you vet want them have them call us we can give him the records… OKAY go across the street they call. They are told we don’t have them we have to get them from the owner. Wait??? Don’t have them??? BY LAW you have to… so the OWNER says I will hand deliver on Monday May 19^th, 2014… well today has come and gone no records… I would NEVER recommend this place if it was the last place on this earth. DO NOT GO I YOU ARE ENROLLED GET OUT. THEY ARE HORRIBLE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING OTHER THEN GETTING A VISA TO STAY IN THE COUNTRY… Stay far far far away. Bulldogs are kept downstairs because they have dogs that do not like them so instead of exercise they sleep all day. The dogs pee all over the place because they aren’t walked unless you pay extra. BUT you provide WATER which makes them have to go to the bathroom so your dog will come home smelling like urine. Please do not do that to your dog. I enrolled for membership every day I was told he was great. Good boy! Any problems nope great day good dog we love Emmett he’s the best… Now they are trying to save face and say he was the problem. I sent him to Katy Perry for aggression… ahhh no puppy classes lol this place is a joke

These folks take care of my dog with the same passion I do. And she loves the place. If we walk here within 2 blocks if Puppy Loft, she tries to drag us here!

I’m surprised to see any negative reviews, but I guess that’s because I use Puppy Loft for daycare and not grooming?
We started going to the Puppy Loft on the recommendations of many of our friends from the local dog park, and we have never been disappointed. They have recently hired new staff, and I was nervous about that at first, but eery person I meet genuinely seems to like my dog, they call him by name, like an old episode of Cheers!
The report cards are awesome, with usually hilarious candid shots of my dog happily playing during the day. He is usually WIPED after playtime here — sometimes even after just going for 2 hours (their «happy hour,» which is only $ 15!) Could’t be happier, and neither could my dog!

I can only speak for grooming, but I would never recommend this place. The first time I brought my Poodle there, they gave him back to me looking like a mess, but it was half off for the first visit so I didn’t complain and brought him back a second time since it’s right down the street from my office. This time, knowing I was paying full price, I gave the lady at the counter detailed instructions on his cut — shave the body, trim face and head, leave the tail and ears, pretty simple. Poodle cut, just not so severe. When I picked him up, he sort of looked like a lion, but it was closer than the first time.
I brought him back for the third and final time yesterday. After giving the nice lady at the front desk very specific instructions on what I wanted this nameless faceless groomer to do, when I picked up my Poodle, he looked like a Schnauzer. He has a flat top and a mustache. I asked her why they did this and she told me that the groomer thought his hair was too poofy on top. Again, this is a Poodle, not a Terrier.
I don’t know if what the customer wants gets lost in translation on the way back to the groomers, who we aren’t allowed to meet, but I’m done experimenting with this place, which is unfortunate because it’s blocks away from my job.

My dog is the most important member of my family. I’ve never owned a pet so you can imagine how much I love my dog, Hoffman. My partner and I adopted him from a shelter and had him trained to be a therapy dog. He comes to my office three days a week and sits in the waiting room greeting patients.
Occasionally, we’ve had to board him at the Puppy Loft for the weekend. Every time we pick him up, he is so excited and happy that I truly believe they treat my dog well. Now when I walk him there, he pulls on his leash the minute we turn the corner, because he’s so excited to get inside. The owners and staff are always pleasant even when I call three or four times a day to check on him. Whenever we see one of their walkers in the street, Hoffman gets so excited. They even remember him by name.
Of course I don’t really know what goes on at the Puppy Loft because I’m not there with him, but the excitement and eagerness Hoffman displays each time I take him back says it all.

Puppy loft has made my life so much easier. My dog has separation anxiety and hates being alone or in new places, but he loves the puppy loft. He will literally drag me down the street when we get on the block. I have boarded him here numerous times, they always take him, even with no notice.
The staff is attentive, and so nice. We will run into people on the street who I don’t even know who work at puppy loft and they will say hi to my dog. And I love that they have happy hour, when you can drop off your dog for 2 hours and its $ 15. That’s a great deal for an afternoon of running errands.
The only downfall is they use some sort of air freshener to keep the place smelling good and its so strong that when my dog comes home he smells very perfumey. But it could be way worse!
