Takes insurance after you pay $ 900 a year. This makes no sense.

It makes me sad to write this review because I have be seeing Dr. Press for over 5 years. She was always ok, but not great. The first issue is that the office never answers the phone and can take up to a day to call you back. I find this negligent. A fancy Madison Avenue Dr’s office should at least be able to field calls from patients. I often call 4 times and leave a message and never get a return call. I have to call continually until someone finally answers. Today that happened and then I was put on hold for 20 minutes. When they finally spoke to me they had not heard my message. I have bronchitis, I’m pretty sure. 5 days of coughing and fever. No call back. Then the receptionist informed me that Dr. Press no longer took my insurance. I was like,“what? Since when?” The receptionists said, «Well, we sent a letter.» As if that makes it ok. Usually when a doctor changes their insurance they will grandfather in patients that have been seeing them for many years. Not Press. Just dropped me like that. Pretty shameful. I have to say I’m pretty upset and disgusted but also surprised as I never found her to be excellent. I have a number of medical issues and she never seemed to be able to get them straight or to find a source or a connection between any of the procedures or symptoms that I’ve had. It was as if being well never really mattered. It was always about treating the symptom and that seemed short sighted to me.

Dr. Press is lovely and professional. I was looking for a primary care physician who was experienced handling long term thyroid monitoring. I found her through a message board– other thyroid patients noted that she is a good listener and more than competent to manage thyroid care. She has some early hours as well, for those that need to work around office hours. Only thing I would suggest– don’t email, you should call repeatedly if you need to get some information or have forms sent over, to verify their transmission… I think her assistant might be a little overwhelmed… ;)

Just an update on how much she and her staff rock. Sure, being sick sucks, but being coddled and treated with sincere care by the nurses and receptionists here just gives me the warm and fuzzies. I’m used to playing phone tag back and forth with doctor’s offices. I’m using to finally getting them on the phone only to be treated to rude, curt and uncaring comments from the staff. But not with Dr. Press and her receptionists. Not only was the nurse sincerely worried when I called for an appointment for chronic sniffles but she even put it down as an emergency and got me in there with a 48 hour window. This was even after I insisted that it wasn’t urgent. Is it weird that I can’t wait to go back to the doctor???
