What did you think happened? That the good ol’ US of A sprung up from the ground? Outta nowhere? Nothing like that. The Industrial Revolution took time, patience and some good, good fortune. You don’t go from agricultural powerhouse to industrial beacon without some foresight. Like a champion standing atop a schooner’s crow’s nest — our forefathers saw the approaching revolution. They spotted land, no matter how distant and remote it was. They understood that it’d be unlikely they would see any appreciable differences. But that would come. When Eli Whitney produced the first cotton gin he knew the future was pumping on fast down the line. Railroads were next. Cars came too. Then the iPhone. Who knows what’s coming next? But I can assure you it’s coming. It never stops. Never ceases or rests. And none of it didn’t happened by accident. Industry took brains and brawn. And in the case of the Red Hook Grain Terminal, it all happened one bushel at a time.

Évaluation du lieu : 5 Brooklyn, NY
Indescribable. So unutterably bad; its good. Good in that it shows up NYC’s rampant bureaucratic incompetence. Just steps from the new, Brooklyn IKEA: this is that massive; ugly-as-sin; decrepit; evil-looking old factory which sits on the edge of the poisonous Gowanus Canal and blights the views of the city for miles around. This astonishing eyesore – which no one seems willing to admit even still exists – towers like a Colossus over the community of Red Hook. The continued blotch of this appalling old industrial relic is laughable; an indictment of New York government’s agency-wide feebleness. I submit it to the court of public opinion as Exhibit ‘A’ for the prosecution. Seriously, how can New Yorkers go about their business every day without DEMANDING that it be torn down? Where is that thundering blowhard Donald Trump; with his self-touted Midas touch – how come he’s never taken on this task? The City’d probably sell it to him for a wrinkled old $ 1 bill. Cripes; someone please call McGuire AFB – and have them drop a bomb on it via an A-10 WartHog – willya?
