Grabbed a $ 5 loroco y queso pupusa from the very friendly staffers at the Red Hook Crit, but was far from blown away.

I didn’t even know what a papusa was until I checked out Solber based on numerous recs. My favorite is the chicken, cheese and jalapeño. Very filling, excellent quality and very consistent. Also, I will never forget how Solber helped out the community after Hurricane Sandy. Definitely pay them a visit!

If you’ve never had a pupusa, you need to drop everything you’re doing right now and head over to the Red Hook ball fields… stat! I mean like right now. I’m not kidding. Why in god’s name are you still reading? Well okay fine if you’re going to be stubborn, here’s the deal: Solber is an excellent place to get your introduction into this fine El Salvadorian dish. Basically it’s like an arepa, only better. In a former life I was used to having these on a regular basis, but when I moved out here I thought I had given them up. Imagine my surprise on strolling through Smorgasburg to happen upon the stall they have there. I was in heaven. And then I learned the truck was here at the ball fields… even better! Onto the food: I had the bacalao(cod), and the jalapeño and cheese pupusas. For $ 6, it’s a good value and it came with the standard sides: cabbage, jalapeños, pickled onions, tomato sauce and sour cream. Simple and big on taste. Top it off with a horchata and you’re good to go. There are also tamales to be had here… next time.

Stopped here at the Smorgasburg. First time to ever try pupusas and enjoyed them. I liked them better than arepas. I tried chicken and bacalao. Really liked the bacalao one. Onions, pickled cabbage, sour cream and a red sauce in the side. Very tasty and made to order!

Food truck upgraded from a food tent at the Red Hook soccer fields. One of my favorite vendors there, these guys do everything right from pupusas to tamales. Their tamales are banana leaves, and I normally prefer corn husks due to the taste. These, however, were excellent. I go back every chance I get.

Had pupusas, tamales, tostones, and maduros(fried sweet plantains) delivered for lunch today and it was AWESOME! I’ve never had pupusas but they were delicious. I consider myself a connoisseur of tostones and especially maduros and these were top notch. I have yet to find a place in the city besides Solber Pupusas that makes them as good as back home(Miami). Will definitely be ordering again and I recommend everyone try it!

Delicious. They’ve been serving residents and volunteers in Red Hook post-Sandy with a high-quality product that is hopefully boosting spirits down there. I ate a bean and cheese pupusa with all the fixins: slaw, pickled jalapeño, tomato sauce, pickled onions. And fried sweet plantains to boot. Much appreciated. Solber gets extra points for the pillowy texture of its pupusa… it wasn’t too dense and it wasn’t too greasy. I can’t wait to visit them back by the ball fields.

I tried out this cart for the first time at the Hester Street Fair Night Market, ordering the fish pupusa and the chicken tamales. The pupusa was a little crispy on the outside, with a warm, mushy(in a good way) fish on the inside. There was some cabbage, sauce, jalapenos, etc. sprinkled on top to make it look nice. I would definitely pass on the tamales, both for the tamales part and the shredded chicken inside. The pupusa was decent, but not really anything to write home about.

So… I had a pupusa for the first time at there location at the Brooklyn Flea. So… yeah, I almost cried, it was so good. Made me want to go back and slap the cook for putting there foot in it. If I was to be a glutton, I would be a pupusa glutton. It was EXTRADELICIOUS!!!

These pupusas are delicious, and gluten free. Granted, I’ve never had any other pupusas before. But props to these guys for spreading the gospel of these delicious little corn patties. The salad and other toppings are all great. It can get a little soggy though if you don’t eat it quickly. I’ve only eaten at the Brooklyn Flea, never the Red Hook location. Someday I’m hoping to make it to their actual store.

These pupusas are basically the greatest thing in the world. If you get them at the ballpark location too they’re super cheap, like $ 5 for two with a mountain of delicious cabbage, mystery red sauce, sour cream, and jalapenos. If you ask for more cabbage they’re very accommodating.

YUM! I was super excited to try them at Brooklyn Flea Market since 1) I never go to Red Hook and 2) they just won the Vendy Awards! Pupusas are stuffed corn tortillas common in El Salador and Guatemala. My friend and I shared the sample platter so we tried the chicken pupusa, the chicken tamales, chorizo, maduros, and the different pickled vegetable toppings. The pupusa itself is very unique from anything I’ve tried that is Latin American. It is crisp outside but similar to an arepa inside. The chopped up chicken inside is deliciously seasoned and eat it with sour cream and a spicy sauce and it is incredibly satisfying. You and your stomach will be very happy. The tamales is also delicious but I think I prefer the Puerto Rican version. That sample platter was $ 10 and enough food for 2 girls! And the crew is so nice and I was congratulating them on their Vendy win and the aguela was so nice and friendly and thanking me and all. And of course, giving me a bigger portion while she’s at it. So if you’re ever in Red Hook or at Brooklyn Flea go check out their food!
