Cute little bakery in the Chelsea Market! We were drawn in with the beautiful case and ended up enjoying cupcakes and cannolis. Friendly staff and tasty treats… just wish there were tables to sit down and enjoy all of this deliciousness.

I really loved this little shop. They made gorgeous cakes that were delicious. I stopped by yesterday(April 7, 2015) and to my dismay they appear to be closed. If anyone has any information on possible relocation do let me know!

I stop by mostly to browse their gorgeous creations. I finally one day decided to see how edible they were. For those of us who care about flavor this place really gets 3 stars… Avoid the cake pops, they are mostly frosting plus more sugar and very very little cake. Service was average, Prices were slightly up-as expected in Chelsea Market!

I first discovered this place when I needed some cake pops for a class presentation. I was chosen to display to my class how to make cake pops. Well I thought that I could multi task and make the frosting, prep mold trays, and frosting for binding while all my sister had to do was keep an eye on the over. Lets say 3hrs before class and 45min past when the pops were suppose to come out the oven I was left with burnt cake rocks and very little time for a do over. Luckily after a quick Gogle search and a ride from a friend I found this place. I purchased a dozen and a half of their cake pops. I was unsure of it but it was the only place locally selling them. I tested one and and they tasted pretty ok so I was able to use them and pass them around in class. My class mates loved them but then again they were 18 and 19 yr old college students from out of state. I doubt they’ve had any real meals or pastries since leaving the nest so… um…yea. Anyhoo I personally didnt think it was the best. The flavors are limited to chocolate and yellow cake. The chocolate was very very sweet. I love sweet stuff but it was a bit of an overkill. I read another review that also basically indicated they have no awareness about the creation of a measuring cup for sugar and I agree. I think they could’ve cut back a bit on sugar for the most part. Their artistry is amazing but I am apprehensive about purchasing anything beyond the cake pops. Too bad their recipe doesn’t match the artwork on the outside. Customer service is lacking here If you dont know what you want they are not eager to help you. They took away all ques that could be used to engage with the customer — example: I noticed cake pops had a sign next to them that said $ 2 — which on a quick note is highly over priced for their size that they are today(I say«today» because I have purchased twice from this place these same cake pops. The second time being last weekend on 2⁄21 since I forgot what it tasted like back in 2013 when I first tried it and wanted to revisit them since as I said I couldn’t find cake pops else where and this time I need it for a birthday party I’m throwing… but now I see why I haven’t gone back) The cake pops use to be HUGE and cost the same $ 2, now they are considerably smaller for the same two dollars. SO getting back to my point I was heading to, each of these treats are labeled to reduce the need to be asked about price or any other questions. The girl working the counter had her back turned to the customers and there was 5 of us in there. If you wanted her attention you had to yell«Excuse me» over the newly added tall plastic divider that wasnt there my first visit. This place is not good but its not bad either. Its just a it will do place. Im big on customer service so I wouldnt return here. I asked about a custom birthday cake and she told me she is not taking orders because the shop is moving. I asked where to and she said«I dont know» How can you be employed somewhere and not be informed of the next place you plan to set up shop/? That send a red flag to take my money to Cake Ambiance in Brooklyn and leave this place alone for good. I can get better service there.

My 21st Birthday Cake was Ruthy’s Best Cheesecake, 3-layer of Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Mousse and Cheesecake. It’s super sweet but amazing when treating yourself every once in a while. I also tried their Brownie Chocolate Cookie(I think that was the name) and it’s perfect. I want to go back and try their Key Lime Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Shadow Cake and more of their cookies. There’s a lot of variety here, and adorably decorated character cupcakes(Minion, Angry Bird, Batman, Ninja Turtles etc.) Be sure to say Hi to Crystal! Super nice and generous!

Um, no. Charging nearly $ 6 for an ordinary-yet-stale bagel and sub-average coffee: wrong. Perhaps it’s all the tourists keeping this place afloat.

I went with the cannolli. At first, the staff wasn’t too friendly or helpful, then another worker came in and answered a few questions I had. Overall not bad.

Took me a while to finally write a review. I wasn’t even sure if I want to waste the time to write one but I thought I could probably help someone in the future with this review. A couple months back, my boyfriend ordered me a belated birthday cake and I should’ve been the happiest girl on earth with this surprise. Only this cake completely ruined my mood and I ended up only taking two bites out of it. First of all, this cake appearance wise is gorgeous. It was a minion maid cake and I have to say the one star will go out to the design and decorations of this cake. The rest of the experience is a big fat zero. After asking my boyfriend the details, I was frustrated beyond everything. So he made the order over the phone and whoever was taking his order was mumbling half the time so trying to hear a price was difficult. This cake came out to be over $ 500 and I was livid because for the quality I could probably buy a cake at the supermarket and it will be better. My boyfriend specifically asked them if the cake with this design could be made with a sponge cake that isn’t overly sweet because those are my preferences. The girl over the phone assured him that it will be possible so my boyfriend went through with the order. When he found out his card got charged $ 500+, he immediately called the bakery and the baker said that they haven’t started baking the cake yet so it won’t be a problem to cancel. But he got a call later from the bakery from the manager saying the cake was already made so cancelation isn’t possible. At this point my boyfriend had no choice but to pick the cake up. When I first got the cake I was really happy because it was the cutest thing ever, but when we tasted it we were super disappointed. First of all the cake was just a regular gold cake, which was definitely not the sponge cake that the person who took the order assured. So it’s pretty much like ordering a vanilla cake but ended up cutting into a chocolate cake. The filling in between was lemon flavored and that was pretty okay. But can I just say that taking a bite out of this cake, I thought I needed an insulin shot because it was that sweet. My boyfriend thought it was really sweet and he usually likes sweet desserts. We could barely finish our slices and ended up having to drive the cake to Boston so my boyfriend’s mom could help pass it out to neighbors and friends to get rid of it. So overall experience, the service was completely unorganized. You hear different things from different workers when you call. The quality of the cake was not pleasing at all. I went by this bakery again yesterday to check it out in person and even though everything looked pleasing to the eye, my first and last experience with them will make me never want to try any of their desserts again. For the amount of money that was paid for my cake I expected it to meet the requirements my boyfriend wanted and especially after being told by the worker there that his requirements will be possible and done. None of that happened, so people if you really want to order something here, you better have a taste for overly sweet cakes and please triple and quadruple check with the details of your order. If you don’t want to deal with the hassle, save your money and go elsewhere.

My mom loves coming to this place when she is in town. They make these amazing meringue sandwiches with a light cream in the middle. They are pretty delicious. Otherwise the rest of the stuff that they sell is pretty sub par and overly sugary. The cake balls are pretty basic, but sometimes just hit the craving for a little bite of cake. Otherwise I would skip this place and go get a sweet crêpe if you are looking for something to hit the sweet tooth.

The stuff looked good but tasted horrible… I throw them away and never buy baked goods there again!!! YOUCANCOMPLAINTHESTOREMANAGERIFYOULIKE! All their desserts looked so cute and looked tasty… but looks can defiantly be deceiving… Try to avoid this place… not worth the calories…

The ball and chain and I just went here. We went to the side that has the bagels, quiches and sandwiches. Since this part of Ruthy’s is physically separated from the side with the goofy cupcakes save for a glassed-in window in the wall, this review pertains only to the bagels/quiches/sandwiches side. Since cupcake land almost seems like an entirely different business, I don’t know what goes on in there and frankly, I really don’t wanna know. Okay, so… Nobody here gives a sh*t. You might be the next person standing on line while a queue develops behind you and grows longer by the second since there’s only one person at the counter(but about five co-workers in the back). Will you get waited on? Hmm… eventually. See, nobody here gives a sh*t. You may ask one question about the food, get an answer from the one person at the counter and expect to finish your sentence so you can place your order but no. The lady from cupcake land at the glassed-in window in the wall has to tell something to the lone person at the counter. Apparently, it has something to do with iPhones because he whips his out and starts fiddling with it for about minute or so. See, nobody here gives a sh*t. This is when several people behind me walked out. I was eventually supplied a quiche. It was mostly made of salt. The ball and chain got a bagel with cream cheese, which was below average. It should also be mentioned that this side of Ruthy’s looks really crappy. The institutional, bright green paint is chipped and the counters and tables look kind of grungy — maybe even greasy. It feels as if you’ve teleported back to the USSR circa 1970. No wonder customers don’t sit down to eat inside. See, nobody here gives a sh*t. Whoever is the manager of this side of the business really should be fired. It’s inefficient. The people are inattentive. The space is poorly maintained. This side of the business? They’re just collecting your money. They’re in a high traffic area in Chelsea Market. They think they don’t have to try. So go somewhere else. Don’t give them your money. See, nobody here gives a sh*t.

I’ve only worked at the Chelsea Market for a few months so I’m still discovering my favorite places to go. Recently I’ve started experimenting with Ruthy’s. What I’ve purchased: Mini chocolate peanut butter cups-tiny, but rich and delicious. Perfect balance of chocolate and real peanut butter that tastes like peanuts instead of sugar peanut cream. Key Lime Pie tart-Unlikely that anyone who has ever visited Florida and tasted Key Lime Pie will like this. The small top layer, which is made out of some sort of gelatin, is sour, but not sour enough. The larger tart part is not sour at all. Pretty odd, considering the grocery store in the Chelsea Market sells key limes so you would think that they might try to come up with a better recipe. Chocolate cake pop-The cake is moist underneath the sprinkles(I got the type of sprinkles that they put on non-pareils) and tasty. Once was enough to fulfill the curiosity, but I probably wouldn’t want to re-experience this like I do the mini chocolate peanut butter cups. Onto the next adventure.

Over priced, rude, long wait even when no one is on line besides you, dirty kitchen, did I say over priced? I’ve been in this building over 8 years. Same story. Even just a bagel with butter is over $ 5, that’s insane. My co workers and I boycott that place. Don’t do it. Save yourself.

I got a last minute b-day cake here. It’s called Ruth’s best cake, and it was fantastic! A fresh cheesecake bottom and a juicy chocolate cake layer with chocolate mousse in between, nicely decorated and with a customized wording on top! Our guests loved it! No need to pre-order 10″ cakes. There is a great variety of them stored in the fridge. You just stop by and pick it up.

Ordered a bagel, but they gave me the wrong one. Check your order before leaving! I think they gave me an egg bagel, and it was edible but a bit dry and doughy. Disappointing but I’ve had worse. And they toast bagels so yay for that. Service was pretty quick though. Guy took my order, cashier rang me up, waited about 5 minutes for them to give me the wrong order, and I was out of there.

I would give 4 ½ but that is not an option. I have been ordering birthday cake from this bakery since my daughter was 2. She is going to be 16 in May. I ordered my cousin baby shower cakes, my nephew’s first birthday cake. I order my office party cakes. I just love this bakery. They were all decorated so beautiful and my family and friends loved them. Not only was it beautiful but it taste amazing. Best bakery in NY if you ask me. We rent out space for my company in Chelsea market to have our sample sales, and I always recommend to my co-workers to go try a slice of Ruthy best cheesecake and the shadow cake(We are an office who loves chocolate). 14 years and this is my bakery of choice. But Today I was so disappointed. Yesterday I was supposed to pick up two cakes. Spider man theme, in red and blue. I preordered a week and half ago. I go pick up the cake and the blue cake was never made. My nephew party was the following day so the nice ladies told me it will be ready in the AM. Offered apology and gave my daughter and her friend a macaroon for the delay… I said ok. Mistakes happen. I’m sure it would have been a different story if I had to pick it up same day.(Yikes)

I’m going to give 3 stars for these reasons: 1. Why do I have to stalk you from across the counter to get some help? What if I’m a pastry junkie and need my fix this minute? Killing my high, man. 2. I bought 3 cookies. They were around $ 6. WHAT. Is there a nugget of silver in one of them? A golden ticket, perhaps? I know this is Chelsea Market but damn. 3. A brown paper bag!!! What is going on here. At least give me a branded bag so I can clutch onto my dignity as I walk out having spent more than any cookie deserves. 4. The cookies were good. I won’t lie, I ate them all almost immediately. My boss watched on in slight shock. I don’t care.

Décor: 3.5÷5 –Don’t let the cute and colorful cupcakes fool you! Service: 1⁄5 –impatient & unfriendly Food: 0⁄5 –I walked in having high hopes for Ruthy. She failed me, hardcore. –Macarons($ 2) — I ordered one of each flavor. Think of biting into uncooked instant ramen. That’s how hard it was. Now take a look at how much filling they put in. They skimp so much, the filling wasn’t even creamy. These macarons are a total fail and shouldn’t even be allowed to be sold.
