Comida nota 10.

Very slow service. Super long wait for my main dish, my wife was long done eating hers. Duck curry — tasty, but don’t expect a lot of duck meat. Would be ok for appetizer size, but definitely not main course size. Being lots of time if dining here.

I’ve found my favorite Asian fusion restaurant in the city(and perhaps anywhere). The striped sea bass was an explosion of flavor that will keep my tastebuds dreaming for years to come. The ambiance is nice. I dined alone after coming to the city on a late flight for work. It was relaxing and divine.

Loved it, food is outstanding… The atmosphere is very unique, loved the Asian feel to it, the service seemed to be professional, overall nice experience although the wait was a little too long even with reservation and it’s a bit pricey… Still recommend! Great place to spend a night out.:)

If this place wasn’t conveniently located in the meat packing district I don’t think I would go back. Our server was terrible slash thank god for the manager because my water glass would have been empty the entire time without him… Clearly it was too much for our server to handle. When we first arrived at the restaurant we were seated at a very small table which was annoying since we were planning on ordering a lot of food and the place at this point was pretty empty maybe there were 5⁄6 other tables occupied, one being a large party of 6 people. On top of the shitty server this pissed me off. Once we sat down our server kept pushing certain drinks and almost peer pressuring us to get them. However the genius he was didn’t realize the drink menu had changed and there was a new winter drink menu. We decided to try one of the drinks he was pushing and it wasn’t my favorite. Aside from my negative nancy comments — the food was good with a few exceptions… We ordered: Lobster summer roll: wouldn’t get again Salmon Tartare: wouldn’t get again(tasted a little watered down if that makes sense — the consistency wasn’t firm/right). Rib Eye Skewer: 100% would get again Salad: 100% would get again(forget the name I’ll ask a friend and update it) Chicken dish that came with the coconut rice — it was okay but nothing out of this world. The real highlight of the restaurant is the actual atmosphere. It’s definitely trendy but there are so many trendy restaurants in meatpacking — not sure that this would be my top pick.

Went back for round two recently and this place is still top notch. World class dining experience. Service staff is excellent; ambiance beautiful. My favorite drink was their lychee/raspberry martini. For appetizer we got the lobster roll + pineapple shrimp. The avocado salad was exquisite. Entrée consisted of perfectly prepared lobster and cod. To finish we had a delicious bowl of thai jewels. Love this place.

Had dinner at Spice Market the other night and was sorely dissatisfied. As many have said, the ambiance is 100% what you’d expect from meatpacking; It’s huge, lavish, trendy, and romantic. But the food is less than impressive. We ordered: –Chicken samosas –Ginger fried rice –Apple pomegranate salad –Spicy peanut noodles –Cod in Malaysian chili sauce –Red curried duck –Pork vindaloo –Ovaltine kulfi –Toasted coconut cake The chicken samosas and spicy peanut noodles were just OK, nothing to rave about. I was expecting a far more multi-textured filling with the samosas, but it was just ground chicken meat inside. The pork vindaloo and Ovaltine kulfi were downright inedible. The pork vindaloo was all fat, so much so that my father(who eats anything vindaloo) couldn’t bare to eat it. And if you’ve ever had kulfi(Indian ice cream) you’ll understand why this dish should NOT be categorized as such. It doesn’t even resemble kulfi. These were essentially Ovaltine truffles with a side of kettle corn and a torched banana slice. No one was impressed. The only dishes I would order again(if I ever return) would be the apple salad and coconut cake. The salad actually tasted fresh and as though someone put thought into the flavors and textures of the dish. And the coconut cake was sweet and decadent. Overall, Spice Market is yet another Meatpacking-area restaurant that’s all show and no bite. Highly disappointing.

Great ambience and loved the restaurant décor. Was never a huge fan of Asian fusion meals but wanted to give it a try due to all the hype. Ordered the following: — Sangria: it’s the tastiest white wine sangria I’ve ever had! Very citrusy and tummy. However, the pitcher was filled with 50% ice, 25% fruit. — Vietnamese spring roll: Disappointing. Lobster and crab do not belong in a spring roll. Would not order this again. — red curry duck with coconut sticky rice: The curry sauce was way too thick and tasted more sweet than savory. The duck meat was shredded and tasted mediocre(nothing special). My mistake was ordering sticky rice rather than jasmine rice. The sticky rice was way more glutinous and doesn’t go well with curry. Won’t be returning again.

Spice Market is a trendy and popular restaurant that serves modern Asian cuisine. It’s trendy and blasts club-like music, so it’s loud. The typical diner is young and fashion-forward. We came over half an hour early for our reservation, so we waited at the bar. Our table was ready in 10 minutes! They have a huge coat check. The star of the menu is a vegetarian tasting menu. It’s much cheaper than the regular tasting menu and has nice flavors. We loved the pumpkin soup. The restaurant is huge, and our table saw at least six servers bring food to our table or talk about wine. The servers wear orange and white cotton top and bottom that look like prison uniforms. Good food and a great choice for vegetarians. I’d recommend Spice Market for a nice occasion and/or large groups. Just make sure to make a reservation!

Well, I just might be not there yet to understand the whole complexity and uniqueness of the food at spice market but until then I will never go there again because food there was a huge disappointment for me. We ordered two appetizers: 1. Dumplings with shrimp. It tasted like the frozen gyoza I buy sometimes at my local supermarket. There were only 6 pieces and they were super small. 2. Steamed buns. Tasted like McChicken Main course: 1. Salmon. It came in a bowl like a soup and small piece of salmon was drifting in the middle. Salmon itself was good, but whatever else was in the bowl tasted horrible. 2. Ribs. To our surprise this one came in a form of soup again with noodles and piece of meat in the middle. The meat tasted like regular roast beef and no ribs were detected. I do like Asian food but this was my worst experience so far. I enjoy a bowl of phở for $ 10 more than I enjoyed the whole dinner at Spice Market. But as I said, it is very subjective opinion. I’m pretty sure that there are people that may have a food orgasm at this place. The place itself is huge, has a great design and atmosphere. The service was good also. If they served some other food I would come again.

Spice Market is a very spacious dimly lit upscale restaurant with elegant interior and high ceilings. The servers have really cool uniform and the entire ambience is very relaxing and high class at the same time. Have been here few times for lunch and for the first time came for dinner last week. It was Thursday night around 9pm. The hostess told us to wait 20 minutes even though there were plenty empty tables. Anyway, we were seated within 10 minutes because I kept talking to hostesses and begging them to sit us soon. We ordered few things and shared. From starters I tried grilled chicken satay with peanut coconut sauce and didn’t quite like it. The chicken was dry, tasteless and sauce wasn’t what I expected. For the entrée I had steamed red snapper and it was perfect. It was bedded on mushrooms and they were really good too. And on the side I ordered broccoli and corn dish. That side dish was phenomenal. Overall good experience.

Dramatically beautiful space is completely left hanging by mediocre service and food only slightly better than a suburban PF Changs. Sad to see a Jean Georges restaurant become nothing more than a marketing tool that has become so far removed from the stellar game changer that Spice Market was when it opened in 2004. In 2009, five years after it opened, the New York Times reported: «Today it suggests the steepness of many a restaurant’s decline once it has made its first, glowing impression, especially if the restaurant was conceived as, or destined to be, the parent of money-making offspring elsewhere. Said restaurant comes out of the gate strong, whipping up the buzz and establishing the brand, but once that mission is accomplished, its motivation falters. Its cooking deteriorates. Sloppiness creeps in.» All I can say is that since this 2009 review, it has probably gotten even worse. Save your time. Save your money. It is B-A-D.

So, in my last review, I stated that I gave them high marks for service, food, drink, but, was disappointed that they did not provide Restaurant Week Menu on Saturday, after us receiving an invitation that did not state that. Well, I contacted the restaurant, spoke to the manager about my concern, and they really«made it right». I applaud them for that, and have now up’ed their review to 5 Stars. Thank you to the manager«Frank», for doing the right think… We will be back ! ! !

Food was amazing, service was great, with one exception. We received an email from Spice Market about Restaurant Week January 18 thru February 5th. We made a reservation, and showed up. When we asked for the Restaurant Week Menu, we were told that they do not offer that menu on Saturdays. They should have made that clear in advance. The email had no mention of any exceptions. In my mind, a little bit of a «Bait and Switch». If I knew in advance, I would have chosen another restaurant that was offering Restaurant Week Menu. Very disappointing ! ! !

I came here on Saturday night for dinner. I had made reservations through the«restaurant week» section of Open Table, so I was a little surprised when we got there and they said they didn’t do restaurant week on Saturdays, but I think that is probably the fault of Open Table and not Spice Market, though they could have been a little nicer about it. But the food and cocktails– wow! Drinks– the ginger margarita and cucumber martini were both great. Food– spicy thai fried chicken wings with pear appetizer– amazing! the sauce was so good and a great balance of sweet and spicy. Pork vindaloo– good overall, though I thought it could use a little more spice and the large pieces of leeks were a little offputting. Dessert– toasted coconut cake with guava ice cream and caramel– fantastic! very unique and different. Overall great dining experience and beautiful atmosphere.

Gave reservation on phone just 30 minutes prior to arrival time. Got there, sleeping kid in tow– Sunday evening 8pm. The hostess and sweaters are excellent, courteous, happy to receive guests and we were given first class treatment. Sofa seating for the sleeping kid, full menu, tasting menu and restaurant week menu options. Even kid menu Orin’s, just as kid woke up. Amazing experience. Awesome awesome food. Lovely fusion food. I took restaurant week menu-3 course meal, my husband choose a la carte, kid loves his grub. The servers, the hostess and everybody there ROCKS. We felt welcome and the food was the best I ate in recent times. My salmon was supperbbbb. The desert — carrot cake– was out of the world yet so pure. I can taste yummiest carrot sorbet from this plate. The taste was so good.

I went here for drinks and appetizers and Spice Market did not disappoint. The ambiance is ornate, dim and illuminated with candles, great for having a conversation. I started with a Thai Smash and my next drink was a cucumber martini(for some reason I was really into refreshing, non-sweet cocktails that night). I have to say kudos to the bartender because they were perfectly. For food, I had the Crispy mushroom dumplings with galangal emulsion(the green dip) which were good too. Looking forward to visiting again for a full meal!

Spice Market has been lingering on my places to go for quite some time. SO imagine my excitement when I came across a $ 55 dollar TravelZoo deal. I jumped on it. I called to confirm my reservations(3:00pm on a Saturday, Brunch) and advised the hostess of my travelzoo deal and noted the fact I was celebrating my boyfriends birthday. When we arrived the staff was somewhat friendly but uninviting. We were seated… uh that was pretty my the only interaction we had with staff for 15minutes. I asked my BF to describe his experience in one sentence…“good food, confusing service” Now for my review. The food was tasty. The décor beautiful, truly emulates Aladdin. The waitstaff= Goku and Krilln chillen. A manager stopped by to take my travelzoo voucher. Or at least I think that happened, not like she intruded herself. Just because I purchased a deal does not mean I am cheap. Does this make me a second class guest in your establishment? I feel as if because we had a «deal» we did not receive great service. For that matter we did not receive any service. Not ONE person was taking care of us. Bizzare. I really have nothing left to say expect that I am extremely disappointed in the quality of service and lack luster allure of Spice Market.

I would leave them 0 stars if I could. Horrible service, and the food is not fresh. We made a dinner reservation a few days in advance. When we arrived the table was not ready, and they offered us to wait by the bar for 5 min. After half hour there was still no table, and they don’t let you order any food at the bar. We had to wait almost an hour, I was starving by then! Of course it took them forever to take the order and bring the food, which wasn’t even fresh! The seafood smelled odd and I lost my appetite. When we tried to send it back, it was a problem. They wouldn’t even take it off the check! The manager was rude and not helpful at all. I would never expect such level of customer service from a place like this. I heard a lot of people saying that their service and food got worse recently.

Last year I went To Spice Market in the Meatpacking. I told the waitress I was allergic to shellfish. We ordered from the menu something that was just labeled as being vegetables. The waitress, who I told I was allergic, took the order. I thought I was safe. Suddenly my throat started to close up. I grabbed someone and asked what was in it and they said shrimp and lobster. I reminded them that I was allergic-went to the bathroom(trying to not be a spectacle) and took benadryl hoping it would stop my reaction. The bill came and it was on the bill but I felt sick and needed to go home so I paid, tipped and went home as fast as I could grabbed a cab and laid down in the back hoping I could get home in time. Between my constant throwing up I wrote an email to the restaurant to complain. I asked them to fix the menu description. They said they did not want to. I could not stop throwing up for weeks. I could only eat rice for over a month. I had no energy and would become nauseated if I stayed up too long. A week after the incident because I work for myself I went to work. I spent the day running off set to throw up. I went to Urgent Care and needed two bags of IV fluid. I needed expensive medication to keep the nausea minimal but it was till constant. For over a month the smallest thing would cause me to throw up. The restaurant had no concern that their menu was not labeled correctly, nor offered to refund me for charging me. They could possible kill someone with a worse allergy than mine. After a month I reluctantly went to a lawyer. I wanted them to fix their menu and help me with lost wages and medical bills. It has been a year and they have not made any honest effort to rectify the matter, despite constant phone calls and other efforts to contact them.

Went for my anniversary last Friday. The place is beautiful, however the food was less than desirable. I ordered the char-grilled chicken, because the pictures others posted of it on Unilocal looked amazing. It was not good. The sauce was very vinegarish, the chicken meat was fatty, and I chomped on too many pieces of cartilage – it was just too much. My gf’s meal(the short ribs) was much better, but incredibly rich. The fish bun appetizer, was pretty good. Interestingly sweet, but bordering oily. For $ 120, I except to have zero complaints about the food. Beautiful place though.

This will forever be one of my favorite places to dine! Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten never disappoints ! It is trendy and beautifully decorated! Great for a date night and brunch dates! The tasting menu($ 50 per person) is well worth it! My favorites: cod(entrée), spicy chicken samosas, salmon tartare, ginger fried rice, fruit jewels and ovaltine kulfi. I will admit, there was something more appealing about this place 2 – 3 years ago and maybe that’s why the reviews have gone down… regardless, still one of my go-To’s!

Came in for brunch with another couple who had a Groupon. The Groupon allowed us to get one of each item from the family tasting menu plus a pitcher of punch. We had the short rib buns which everyone agreed were the best item we received. They were rich, flavorful and served on a moist steamed bun. The crispy potatoes with Siracha were also a hit as they were spicy enough without being overpowering. We also enjoyed the gruyère omelet, maple bacon and chicken and biscuit(which came with a great Asian sweet sauce). By the time the waffles came we were stuffed and could not even eat them. We also refused the coffee which, after the punch and some additional cocktails, was not needed. Service was very attentive and accommodating. The price of the Groupon($ 137) made this a bargin as far as we were concerned for the amount of food provided, it could have been enough for six. Recommended.

Spice Market was a night in the making. Myself and a group of 12 friends rented out the Bombay Room for the evening to celebrate the holidays in great style and we couldn’t have asked for a more lavish and fun filled evening with a prix fix menu that was so delicious and every bit of what we were expecting in the dishes and setting. The ambience of Spice Market is gorgeous, seating arrangements for the Bombay room was lush & plush with perfectly dim lighting and extremely comfortable seating. We had dedicated servers since we rented the Bombay room with drinks and bottle service being at an additional cost and everything that evening was just perfect. Every dish we ordered was done right, perfectly seasoned hitting all the Umami palate taste buds in ways unimaginable and so satisfying. Please have a look at some of the photos I took of the dishes and note the commentary for visuals and thoughts. Spice Market is most certainly a wonderful place to consider for dinner with a date, friends or a group party, level of service, ambience & food is stellar!

I came here because every time I come to NYC my ethnic foodie friend tells me I should come here. Thought I would give it a try, the menu looked great. True to the Unilocal site. The reviews of Spice Market are as mixed as they are plentiful! The atmosphere is stunning with the asian theme and the attire requirement of the staff. Although I did want to know why all the waitresses(women) wore open backed tops, while the men were completely covered from the neck down. Is that really a requirement for an upscale restaurant? Enough said. We ordered appetizers and hands down the salmon tartar was the best dish of the evening. The chickpea and vegetable fritters along with the rib eye skewers were ok but nothing great. The miso rubbed sirloin we ordered was large enough to share but we both didn’t eat that much of it. The meat was tougher than expected and so over salted that all we could taste was soy sauce. My friend loved her lobster though and even wanted to bring her husband back, excitement over all the vegetarian options. All in all it was a come once and done experience for me. The service was great, the atmosphere nice if not a little loud and the food mixed in reviews. Now you have all the information you need going forward to decide for yourself. It wasn’t the spice of my life for sure but everyone is into their own kinds of spice when they go to the market!

Short version: service is terrible. Food is good. I came here with 2 friends for dinner at 9pm on a Wednesday. I made a reservation on open table and promptly showed up at 9. We were not seated until 9:30. We sat around for 20 minutes before we actually got menus. We were waiting for about 15 minutes for our waiter to come around t tale our order and he was nowhere in sight. We actually waved down what seemed to be the manager(he was wearing a suit) to place our order. We appreciated him taking our order but he got it wrong so our mentally challenged waiter had to come back and take it again and he even got it wrong. Thankfully, the food came out quickly because by this time we were all thinking about which friend we would have to eat #canibalism. Our waiter then came to us and told us he was off his shift, meanwhile, he continued to serve tables around us. Spice market. We out. Questionable if we come back

After a long day at the Javits Center, a coworker took our team out to dinner as a thank-you. The Spice Market definitely curried some favor with me. Boom. As this was a corporate-paid dinner, our coworker insisted that we try as much as possible, and recommended many things for us to partake in. Everything was pretty much family-style. And even with small portion apps and dishes, we ordered so many that everyone had some of EH-VUH-RY-THAAANG! The food was NUCKINGFUTS. Apps: –Spicy Thai Fried Wings, which are a real treat if you just love being dizzy from spice, like myself. Lightly battered, with a thick sauce that’s sweet and on the cliff of being dangerously spicy… Without falling OFF the cliff and chemically melting your tongue off. They were served with an Asian Pear that had the SLIGHT taste of a pear, with the crisp of an apple. But the flavor was subtle enough to cool the wings down, but let them be the star! –Grilled Chicken Satay, lightly-marinated/seasoned grilled chicken skewers served with an INCREDIBLE coconut peanut sauce that was spicy, but without any HEAT.(That makes sense, right?) –Black Pepper Shrimp, which were another crowd-pleaser at our table. Served in a thick semi-sweet, spicy black sauce… Accompanied by «dried» pineapples that were tender and dry on the outside, but still retained a lovely amount of juice on the inside. It was like a Starburst made of fruit… You’re like«How the fudge did this ‘dry’ thing still have juice in it???» –Green Apple & Quinoa Salad… This was a HIT. Only one person at our table initially wanted it. But once we all tasted it, we were instantly smitten. It was such such a PERFECT harmonious balance(like most of the menu) of sweet, savory, spicy, etc. Just amazing. The apples were shredded to the perfect consistency. Just enough quinoa to adorn all of the apple«shavings», and the dressing/liquid was just enough to coat all of the items. Not to mention some scattered raisins and pomegranate. LIT! On to the main courses. –Red Curried Duck… As I’ve only just tried duck in recent weeks(ever in life), my reference points are still limited. But I must say that this place did it justice. The bowl(of mostly decadent curry sauce, with tender slices of duck) was more reminiscent of a stew or gravy. It wasn’t overly curry-y(please let me know if you have a better adjective lol), but just seasoned well and not overly salty or spicy. It came with white rice(as do all the main courses), but it went really well with the NUUUUUMEROUS coconut/sticky rice plates that we ordered. –Char Grilled Chicken was legit. Lightly marinated meat, that was cooked well. Maybe TOO well. Excellent char on the outside… But it was soooooo effing tender, dude! I literally stuck my choptick, and it broke apart like the softest fish ever. Had to taste it to know I wasn’t eating fish lol. –Steamed Red Snapper was pretty good. Didn’t make my eyes roll back or anything, but it was still delicious. Drinks: –We all had pitchers and glasses of their Ginger Margarita, suggested by both the server and our coworker. It was like a Jamaican Ginger Beer… But less spicy and intrusive, with tequila in it! –They have an amazing beer on tap: Sapporo, which is a Japanese lager. It’s amazingly light, and compliments the food well because of that. Floral notes, fruity notes, blah-blah-blah. It was good regardless. If it’s up to me(and by that I mean my wallet, since it’s a pricy meal)… I’ll undoubtedly come back. There are so many cool-points that I missed, but you’ll have to go for yourself to experience the dopeness of the Market.

I absolutely loved this restaurant! My wife took me here for my birthday at about 11PM on a Monday night. The place had a decent amount of people in it, but it was not crowded by any means. The music was loud, but still quiet enough to make for conversation. The cocktails were strong, but sure didn’t taste it(a good thing). The décor is amazing… definitely a great spot to impress a date. We went with the tasting menu and I would have to say that everything that I had was the best of that type of food that I’ve ever had. 1) Spicy steak tartar — it’s served like a desi style«pani puri»… AWESOME. 2) Cured Salmon — great, but nothing legendary 3) Hamaci Sashimi — LEGENDARY! They take a wad of sushi rice and fry it with a light batter. 4) Spicy thai slaw — didn’t care for it much. 5)Shrimp dumplings — best I’ve ever had. 6) Chicken samosas — I’ll come back again for these 7) short rib buns — best i’ve ever had 8)Pan roasted cod — best I’ve ever had. I was absolutely stuffed by the time i got to the cod, but i forced it down anyways. The ovaltine kulti and spiced jackfruit cake were great finishing items.

I first went to Spice Market 3 – 4 years ago during Restaurant Week and loved it. The food was fantastic, the ambiance romantic, and the service impeccable. Just went back for a second time and ordered a la carte, and the experience couldn’t be more different. The décor is still nice and chic, but now I realize I can barely read the menu to order, it was so dark(and no, I’m not a senior citizen yet, thanks for asking)… The service was solidly bipolar based on the category. The girl who refilled my water — fantastic. Super attentive. My actual waitress? Had to wait 15 minutes to place an order, waited 20 minutes to see her emerge once just to get the check(and required us flagging down another server to get her). Did not check up on us re: the food. Food — not for me. Disappointingly average. My husband still loves the spicy dishes, but not being a big fan of the super spicy, found their dishes to be half-hearted. I can’t really find a better word for it. It’s as if the THEORY of their dishes looks really good on paper, but the actual EXECUTION leaves one wanting. I’m not really sure why my experiences are so different. It could be that they just happen to excel during Restaurant Week. Opportunity permitting, I may go back and see.

I am usually highly skeptical of «Asian fusion» food since I feel like it bastardizes authentic dishes from different Asian countries and makes them palatable to Western palates. It’s also very hard to pinpoint«Asian» food since food from each country in Asia has such a different flavor profile, to bundle them under 1 umbrella term is a travesty, but I digress. I was not wrong in my dislike of Asian fusion after eating at Spice Market. The food was very one note and there was no depth of flavor. Spice Market is more geared towards Southeast Asian flavors which is supposed to combine spicy, sweet, savory and sour flavors but the food here is here is just bland. Our service was also abysmal to nonexistent. The restaurant had nice Asian looking decorations but the lighting was way too dark. Food: My party was starving by the time we got seated so we were able to try quite a few things. We started with some shrimp tod mon pla, chicken samosas, Hamachi sushi and tempura bass steamed bun. The chicken samosas were crunchy but way too salty. The Hamachi sushi had interesting texture, raw fish on top of fried rice ball, but had very little flavor. The tempura bass steamed bun was an interesting take on a traditional bun and the fish was cooked well. However, the fish doesn’t lend a lot of flavor to the flavorless bun and overall the dish was bland. For main courses, we tried the cod with Malaysian chili sauce, red curried duck and pork vindaloo. The cod was ok but the chili sauce was overly salty without much chili flavor. The duck was cooked well but the curry was overly sweet. The pork vindaloo was my favorite overall and I liked the contemporary take on it. Overall, I thought the food was overpriced and not well balanced in flavor at all. You can find much more authentic, delicious Asian food at restaurants without all the hype and décor.

Personally, I love small whole-in-the-wall places that serve delicious authentic Thai… but every once in a while, a friend is visiting NYC or you want to do something special with fussaterians and this place checks all those boxes. It’s great for groups; vegetarians, pescatarians and everyone in between! It’s quintessential Manhattan… and has a beautiful relaxing ambiance. The Food: – Chicken samosas: delicious. Loved the cilantro chutney that accompanied it… perfectly tangy and spicy. #getthem – Spiced chickpea and veggie fritter: if you like falafels, you’ll like these – Striped bass: I liked the crispy fish with the crunchy cabbage, but the sauce was really, really H-O-T. #beware – Salmon Cha Cha: Didn’t try it, but our friend said the broth was delicious – Veg Pad Thai and Ginger Fried rice: Loved the pad thai… the tofu in it was fresh and sauteed to perfection. The Ginger Fried rice was okay… and didn’t compliment the fish preparations. All the main course comes with white rice… which we didn’t know and wish our server had mentioned to us while we were placing our order. Most of everything we tried was good… not great and nothing that will blow you over… but the over all experience is nice.

Adding to the collection of Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s restaurant mecca in NYC is Spice Market in the Meatpacking District. The restaurant specializes in family-style, Southeast Asian cuisine, which is inspired by the street food Jean-Georges enjoyed while traveling in Southeast Asia, The best way to enjoy Spice Market is to order many different entrees, which are placed at the center of table for all the share. For my party of three, we got the Chili-Garlic Egg Noodles & Seared Shrimp and Star Anise, Steamed Red Snapper in Tomato Lemongrass Dashi, Striped Bass & Wok Fried Napa Cabbage & Water Chestnut and Cucumber, and Ginger Fried Rice. The Chili-Garlic Egg Noodles & Seared Shrimp and Star Anise was served in a big bowl. The egg noodles were quite dry and lacked any seasoning/flavor. There were chopped pieces of raw scallions… would have liked it to be sauteed at least. The shrimp was seared nicely. The Steamed Red Snapper in Tomato Lemongrass Dashi included two pieces of red snapper… kind of difficult to share among three people unless you are picking and destroying the fish! The tomato lemongrass dashi had really strong olive oil flavor… so much that I thought I was slurping olive oil! The fish was tender but I hated the skin — it’s my pet peeve! The dashi also had some corns, which I thought was a bit random and didn’t balance well with the overall dish. The Striped Bass & Wok Fried Napa Cabbage & Water Chestnut and Cucumber dish was my least favorite(not that I enjoyed the other ones…). I could barely find any bass underneat all the cabbage(basically kimchi). The cabbage wasn’t fermented long enough because it tasted too raw. That’s not how you make kimchi! Finally, the Ginger Fried Rice. This dish was fine, but again, it’s hard to mess up fried rice. The fried egg on top was a nice touch visually.

The Spice Market in the Meat Packing District offers Thai and Vietnamese cuisine and some Asian fusion dishes. The restaurant boast a multilevel dining area and bars with an exotic South East Asian décor. The ambiance is casual elegant. Since it was a family style dinner, we shared Vietnamese Spring Roll, with minced lobster, shrimp and pork meat and Salmon Tartare with soy ginger dressing served with radish and avocado. It was deliciously paired with a fine bottle of Pine Ridge 2012 a Chardonnay from Carneros, California. My eyes caught the attention of Cod with Malaysian Chili sauce and Thai basil served with Jasmine rice. It tasted good but it failed to blow me away. It was more Americanized rather than being a fusion. This restaurant was an ideal place for a date night for me. Although it emanated a good night feel, it was pricey for what it’s worth and failed to give me the«wow» factor.

(Asiatisches) Essen in Club Atmosphäre.
