Oh with they said I am sad to see this place go.
These guys were always helpful regardless of the seemingly high employee turnover. Clothing and gear is always organized. I cannot recall any clutter at this location.
Using shopkick with this store war never am issue.
I will miss this location. Now I will go with Modells nearby.

I needed some new spandex for the gym. Ran by sports authority on my way home. Helpful friendly staff, large selection and I was in and out in just 10 or so minutes.
There is a coupon for checking in! $ 10 off $ 50 purchase or more.

Bad store! I bought an item there and they forgot to put in my bag. When I returned the manager treated me like I was wrong and didn’t give me what I bought. I wrote to the service custom last Monday, they said someone would contact me in 3 days, and until now, nothing! Don’t buy in this store!!!

A bit of a bust for me – there are lots of raving reviews about the shoe department, but my experience was a little different. Gahh… when we got there, there was one guy who was so frustrated with how Sports Authority didnt carry and shoes that had a good color combination. Fine, that part wasnt their fault.
The part that frustrated me was… this guy stood there listening to everything the guy was saying… and after they did their thing and the individual who was complaining stormed out of the store, rather than turning to me and saying «hey man, i’m off my shift but let me see if I can help you with this real quick», the man looks at me… (because i’ve been standing there for literally 15 minutes) and walks away.
Now, you’re probably asking yourself, where was the guy who was supposed to replace this guy? Well here’s the answer: He was definitely there too. But… rather than going to the dude who was waiting patiently for his co-​worker, he went to someone else who well… also needed help but wasn’t asking for any.
Either way… did i walk out of there with a pair of kicks? no. because after realizing that the other staff member wasnt going to be able to make the sell (but he was definitely trying)… I realized it’d be better to just cross the street (and a couple blocks south) and buy a pair of kicks from Modells.
Yep. Better idea.

Pretty inexpensive workout clothes. The layout of the store does not make that much sense. All the dude stuff surrounds the women’s section. Also, it seems like all the workout clothes are just thrown together; it would make more sense to have sections within the women’s section: one for yoga, one for running, one for cross-​training, etc.
There were really no employees around if I had had any questions, though.

if i could give 6 stars, i would as i’m sitting here right now wearing my new kicks. the shoe gods were smiling down on my yesterday, when i decided to walk in and give my sneaker search one last go.
after shopping around at competitor stores and not finding any help finally someone who takes pride in his work and really honestly truly gives a sH$% about getting you the right pair of sneaks. Prince, sneaker salesman here, is in fact my sneaker Prince charming.
he literally sat down next to me taking the time to explain the different sneakers that would fit my workout lifestyle, and no, he didn’t go for the highest priced sneaks first but rather gave me many options to choose from. need i say, dude, really KNOWs sneakers. i asked him how he knows so much and his honest answer is he just loves sneakers. i want to see Prince succeed in the world, period.. i am recommending all friends, family etc to him.
not to mention his coworkers at the register and in the shoe department were just as helpful and nice.

I’m not really a sports person but if I have a need for workout apparel, this is where I’m going. They actually had things in XS! I was here with my husband, who was looking for weights. Luckily, he found what he needed here.
The selection of women’s apparel was great & seemed to be reasonably priced (with a few items on sale). Staff was also helpful, though no one got to us until after my husband found what he needed. They even bagged his weights for him so he could get them on the subway without looking like he was stealing them from the store.

Had to do a little digging, but they had what I wanted. I would suggest moving the lighter clothing downstairs and the heavier items, like weights, upstairs. But that may just be me.

After days of searching for women’s ski gloves I was on my way to Paragon sports on 18^th and Broadway when i stumbled on Sports Authority. I was surprised that I was able to I walk in and walked right out because I was immediately able to spot and choose what I needed.
There was also plenty of staff around helping customers, I was shocked because most staff workers in retail stores give you the impression that you’re being a nuisance when asking for assistance.

Came here for some racquetballs and walked out with that and some sports attire because they were on sale.
Staff is sparse, so no review about that. Things are laid out very spaciously so no need to bump into other people.
Prices are okay, look out for printable coupons to save some money.
Okay place for sporting goods — near the subway and easily locatable with its awning.

With the Father’s day discount and the e-​coupon giving me 10 $ off, bought a Nike pro compression tee, a Adidas tee and 2 Thorlos socks with 40 $, can’t complain ~

The Authority of Sporting Goods with stores all over the nation. These people have been around for some time and they have spread like wild flower doing their best at dressing up Americans to getting fit. This store is a very large location on 6^th Avenue. With so many shops in the area, this store is kept busy but the lines are never too long. Their prices are very competitive and the staff are okay. They sell all major sports brands and they have their own line as well. It’s amazing how they cover all sports, any sport you can think of they sell gear and equipment for it. Every sport imaginable they got you covered. I mean even games for the lawn or if you plan to have a rec room. I like to take a look at their weekly ads to see what deals they may have that might benefit me. You can get it in the Sunday Paper or online.

There are seemingly hundreds of places in New York City you can go to pick up sporting equipment, but, in reality, there are really only two. Ask anyone and they’ll probably tell you to check out either Paragon, or The Sports Authority. Most of the time, I prefer Sports Authority, and it’s not just because they have more sales – though it’s a great reason to, the sales are good! Their selection is a little smaller, but it’s a quality selection. The staff is really friendly, sometimes a little aloof, though once you get their attention they’re very helpful.
As a beginner Sports Authority is a great place to start, the staff was able to guide me to what I wanted without making me feel like I was an idiot. The store is large, so that kind of guidance is really helpful. Nice place, good prices, decent selection; not much more you can ask for from a shopping experience.

They have swimming suits in practical sizes for women. That’s what brought me into TSA. The store was clean and well organized. The swimming suits were 20 percent off so that was a bonus. I found it very easy to shop and easy to find someone to open a fitting room for me.

Doesn’t have much here in the boxing section… didn’t get the chance to look in the other section but the boxing section sucked.

This store leaves me wanting so much more. It seems so large when you walk in, boasting two open, high-​ceiling floors, but somehow manages to consist 85% of clothing. I suppose they’re welcome to such a choice, but as there are about a million clothing retailers in NYC, perhaps they could fill the niche of providing sports equipment. I did find a decent pair of (very amateur) ice skates for a good price, as well as a set of 2-​pound weights (no, I am not a Lilliputian, they accompany step aerobics), and a durable one-​piece swimsuit. So I suppose my two stars are meant to encourage SA to do better, and fulfill the potential of their moniker. The staff is neither hostile nor particularly helpful.

one star for having the thing i went shopping for in the first place.
negative stars for hiding it & sending me on a scavenger hunt for it.
more negative stars for doing the exact opposite of anything resembling customer service, or even «work» for that matter.
the staff is outrageous. i actually stood and watched two employees talk for, oh, maybe 2 solid minutes, before casually wrapping it up. then, i got a great view of the one employee’s dandruffy back while he TURNED and WALKED AWAY without acknowledging me! the other one went right back to stringing a tennis racket (wtf) and gave me the wrong answer to my one teensy little question.
when i finally located the heart rate monitor watch (being stored on the ground behind some unmanned registers), i had to beg an employee to hand them to me, one by one. she refused to hand me «the lowest-​priced one» and kept giving me the wrong item. because she was talking. to another employee. TREND!
ugh. do not shop here! paragon is like a block away!

Dear Sports Authority,
Your employees wouldn’t know customer service if it was LEAKING OUT OF THEIR ASSES! The store may as well have been vacant with amount of attention I got. Yeah, I needed help trying to find men’s workout pants that WEREN’T in size FAT-​ASS, FATTER-​ASS and DOUBLE-​STUFF OREO FATTY McFATTERSTEIN FAT ASS, but you didn’t have anyone around to look to see if even you even bothered to buy other sizes. Please note Sports Authority, NOT EVERYONE WEARS THEIR CLOTHES OVERSIZED AND/​OR FALLING OF THEIR ASSES!
I hate you. Wish you were dead.
