Went here with a Groupon. The Groupon is a prefix meal that is arguably overpriced. It’s over $ 200 for a four course meal. Egh! Added a 20% gratuity. Of the new York trip, this was the least favorite meal.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. I also came with a Livingsocial so I got the deal of $ 99 for 2. I read so much negative reviews, I was skeptical if i should get a refund for the Livingsocial i bought, I’m glad I didn’t listen to those reviews. I always believe that the service you receive is based on the attitude you give your waiters. Our waiters were super nice and polite, and one of the guys was kinda funny. We stepped in with our reservation, showed the hostess our Livingsocial coupon and she seated us right away. There was also a man in a suit, whom I assume is the manager of some sort, he greeted us and told us to enjoy our dinner. I have absolute no problem with the service. The restaurant itself was not packed at all, actually pretty empty. So when the other review said they seat all the«Livingsocial/Groupon» diners together, I think that’s a misunderstanding. I felt like they sat us together because the other parts of the restaurant was pretty empty and it seemed more lively when we sat next to actual people. The table next to us did have this one woman who had an annoying laugh and talked super damn loud, but as annoying as she was, that’s not the restaurants fault. They can’t control a diner’s noise level and they wouldn’t know how loud they would be. I really enjoyed the food, portions were huge and very well worth the value even without the Livingsocial. I was a bit full after the appetizers. We ordered the calamari and salad between 2 people and there was so much. The drinks were very strong but very good, I like. Not like other restaurants where they water it down just to profit more. The porterhouse steak came sizzling on a platter, it was HUGE. 32 ounces of deliciousness. Very very flavorful. The sides came with spinach and mashed potatoes, the portions for the sides were enough to fill us up. And for dessert, we got the cheesecake and bread pudding. Both came with canned berries, would taste a lot better if they had fresh fruit, but the dessert was pretty good itself. All in all, i enjoyed my experience here and would definitely go back. And to all the other cheap Unilocal reviews about paying gratuity, we live in a country where gratuity is mandatory whether you like it or not. And tax is also mandatory by the state. They charge about $ 15 tax, and the other $ 30 is the 15% gratuity. I would also like to add that the tax and gratuity is calculated on the subtotal BEFORE the discount from Livingsocial and Groupon, which makes sense, or else it the whole meal will be free. Don’t expect to pay $ 0 for tax and service, if you want to be cheap, don’t eat out. They don’t force you to tip more if you don’t want to, but the service is definitely worth more than the gratuity included.

I came here with my coworkers for a nice porterhouse steak night before the storm. One of my coworkers bought a Groupon for $ 189 for a four course meal for four people. This deal includes an appetizer, entrée, a side, dessert, coffee, tea and two bottles of wine. Also, if you check in on Unilocal, you’ll get a free cup of beer or wine. They also have a Groupon menu since they always have this offer. For appetizer, we ordered 2 calamari, Prince Edward’s island mussel, and baked clams. The baked clams were an extra $ 5 since we substituted it and the Mussels for an extra $ 4. The Calamari was nice and crispy and came with marinara sauce. The baked clam was basically clam casino. The mussels was the best. It was soaked in a nice garlic broth. For entrée we ordered 2 porterhouse steak for 2, which was more than adequate for 2 people. It was huge and came with 2 sides each. For sides, we chose the cream of spinach, mash potato, fries, and baked potato. The steak was very juicy, flavorful, and tender. We also had an order of ribeye, which wasn’t as juicy as the porterhouse. The cream of spinach was a bit heavy but it had a great flavor. The mash potato was creamy and still had bits of potato. Finally, the dessert came, but we were rubbing our bellies already. For me, I have an extra stomach for desserts so I ordered both the bread pudding and the cheesecake. The bread pudding was caramel-ly and wasn’t too sweet. The cheese cake was also a great option. It was light and savory. Overall, I would definately come back for such a great deal and the waiters there are amiable and accomadating. BTW there was a nice Samaritan that didn’t finish his wine and snuck it on our table for us to enjoy.

When our friends invited us out for dinner here to celebrate their anniversary, I have to admit that I was not feeling very optimistic. You see, hubbs and I ate here one other time, many moons ago and I was not at all pleased with the service. We reluctantly agreed to go out since it was a special occasion and they already purchased their voucher. On the upside, when they made the reservations, they asked if we would be able to use two vouchers at one table and they had no problem with that, so hubbs and I bought our own voucher also. We went on a Sunday which is probably best because the parking situation is bearable. Upon entry, we were immediately shown our seats and it felt like a complete 180 from the time I remembered visiting before. Our server, Jeff(I think that’s his name) was very accommodating and funny. He was cracking jokes with us all night and made our meal memorable. So, each couple had a Groupon that included a bottle of wine; I went with the Malbec and our friends chose the Cab. Hubby stuck with his vodka and club so, three of us were nursing two bottles of vino. There were specific dishes included with the voucher but for my starter, I went with the Seared Tuna Sashimi which was great. It cost $ 5 extra because it was a substitution for the included apps. Hubby went with the Bruschetta Salad and our friends went with the Fried Calamari and French Onion Soup, all of which were included with the voucher. Each couple also went with the Porterhouse for two. Ours was medium temp and the sear on it was phenomenal. Our friends asked for medium-well but their sear was not quite as caramelized so, there was a bit of beef envy. The dinners came with Mashed Taters and Creamed Spinach as the sides but we went with the Mac & Cheese instead of the Spinach and all the sides were served family-style so, we all got to taste everything. The mac was also an extra cost because it was not from the included pre-fixe Groupon menu. The dessert choices were either Cheesecake or Warmed Bourbon Bread Pudding. Each couple purchased one each so we can all taste. We had an exceptional time. Jeff offered to take our picture to capture the night and everyone down to the busser was top notch. Be mindful that they do include gratuity so, don’t be surprised when you get the bill after using a voucher. We gave a little extra just because the service was awesome and we enjoyed ourselves so much.

My dinner this past Saturday at the Statler Grill was truly a wonderful experience! We were a party of four beautiful women. From the time we sat down we were treated like Queens. Our waiter Drew was excellent and never skipped a beat! And what a nice man, in addition to being handsome, sweet and funny too! :) Since we had a Groupon we were each entitled to one appetizer, one entrée, and dessert. The meal also included two bottles of wine. Before we started eating our table was enlarged and the lights were dimmed to make our experience even more pleasing, which it did. My cousin and I shared the fried calamari, which was perfectly cooked and the Caesar salad. We also shared the Porterhouse Steak for two. All four of us shared the delicious mash potatoes and creamed spinach; definitely great choices. For dessert I had the warm Bread Pudding with bourbon, fresh mint, whipped cream and fresh berries. It was simply amazing! I did get to taste my cousin’s cheesecake which was really good too. Maybe I’ll order that another time. I’m very picky most of the time and really loved this place. I hope my next dinner at the Statler is as nice as this one was!

Nice Restaurant. Warm ambiance. We ordered the lamb lollipops and the seafood tower. Everything was delicious and the portions were big. The drinks are well made. I had the Moscow Mule, which came nicely garnished. The service was great, the hostess sat us down immediately and the waitress was very attentive. This is a perfect spot for big groups or families as well or even just for 2.

The restaurant is good for groups of friends and family. Staff is attentive and friendly. I was here with my family of seven and had a great time. We were able to all sit at the same table and use two groupons. Food was delicious with big portions. Will return again.

This is probably the worst steakhouse I have been to, I brought 3 friends with me and felt really bad about it. I got the groupon for 4 people which seemed like a good deal(and usually is a good deal, but not this time unfortunately). Without going on and on about it, the food has nothing special. The porterhouse was not bad at all, ok, but the rest was really not great. Also, a lot of the good stuff requires extra so you can end up paying twice the price of the groupon. The wine was also very disappointing, and the restaurant did not offer a lot of choice(2 red wines only for example). At the end, the bill showed up with 20% tip and the tax on the full amount. We paid 80 $ /person for a not so great meal and a not so great service. We will not go back to Statler Grill for sure…

Went here w a groupon w my bf for my 25th birthday and had the WORST dining experience in my life at this place. 1 — it took us nearly 40 mins for a table even though i called ahead for a reservation AND it was not crowded. They literally sat at us the empty table directly across from us. 2 — it took another 30 mins b4 our waiter even brought us some damn water. He walked by us SEVERAL times. W/the groupon u have the option to get 1 reg cocktail drink but he had no drink menu no suggestions n just walked us. Brought our wine another 20mins later. 3 — food was lackluster. Guess its the groupon version but i personally just didnt enjoy the mac n cheese. Steak(prime sirlion) was soooo bland. And that cheesecake was warm. He prolly did it on purpose w his crappy asd waiter skills. It was inedible seriously. 4 — our waiter NEVER once checked on us or offer more water or anything. I honestly felt so obviously ignored by our waiter and for a fucking $ 30 tip thats automatically added. I spent damn near 2 hrs n tht place groupon or not. It was so fuckin obvious he was busy drinking and taking shots at the bar b4 he even took our order. After sitting there wo water. Like come on. I will never ever ever ever go here again and i would not recommend the groupon deal. In all honesty i truly felt our waiter was disrespectful and borderline racist.

I honestly enjoyed the $ 99 deal we got on groupon. Meet was great! Mash and spinach sides were amazing and free bottle of wine is just what drew me in. Obviously we spent more than the deal was meant for but that’s the whole point, group on just makes us feel better at the end forcing us to discover new spots like this one in the heart of Midtown(normally I would never even go in into this place even though it’s on my way to and from work). Pleasantly surprised!

Don’t bring me some sad looking spinach that looks like a raccoon had chewed up and regurgitated then keep on insisting they are«fresh!» I know the difference and so do most diners. Unfortunately, I also know what a medium rare steak is supposed to look/taste like. This place seems like it mostly caters to tourists or raccoons. Looks fancy from the outside but disappointing food and service. It’s like the time I bought a fancy spa package and came away more tense and stressed from having to come up with small talk while she salt-scrubbed my naked body. Lesson 1: don’t be lazy and salt-scrub your own naked body. There’s nothing relaxing about the awkwardness of that experience. Lesson 2: stay clear of Statler Grill unless you’re a tourist or a raccoon.

I used Groupon vouchers to go there with my family of 5 people. We did get seated quickly. We ordered: Appetizer 3 Fried Calamari(YUM) 1 Mussel(addition pay of $ 4 or $ 5)(YUM) Entrée: 1 porterhouse steak for 2(ask for medium) YUM 1 Salmon(YUM) 1NY Prime Sirloin(hard to chew) Side dishes: 2 Spanich 2 mash potato Dessert: 4 cheese cake(TAKETHIS!) 1 banana bread(BAD) Coffee Wine: pinot noir: Red Wine Pinot Grigio: White Wine(I liked this one better) Once they knew that we came with vouchers, the manager didn’t even bother to come to my table when he walked around and talked to every other tables, even the one next to mine! Is it because we look Chinese and don’t look like we speak English? who knows… Overall, I really liked Salmon and Porterhouse steak. Others are something that you can get it at other places. They even forgot to offer us coffee or tea since it was in the groupon menu, so I had to ask the guy who was cleaning the plates from another table! The total came out to be $ 100 for %18 tip. It was not worth it at all. I did not have a good service. Overall with groupon, I paid about $ 400 for us. I read many reviews on Unilocal before going there, they are right; this place is over priced.

It was time for another soccer Dad dinner and ran across the Groupon. Everyone was going into the city from NJ so the location was really convenient. $ 160(discounted) got us 4 apps, 4 main courses, 4 sides 2 bottles of wine and 4 desserts. The mozzarella and tomato weren’t bad, but the the calamari was a little overcooked and tough. The 2 dads ordered Ribeye(upcharge of a few dollars) which was just regular cuts of meat — not aged. Another Dad and I shared the porterhouse for 2, although a little on the smallish side, was pretty good. sides of creamed spinach, asparagus, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese(a coule of them also upcharge) were okay. Dessert was ice cream. The 2 bottles of Malbec were very good — nice pairing with the steak. Service charge is on the full face value, 18% I think, plus. Service was good, very attentive and pleasant. The Groupon deal made it worthwhile — otherwise it would’ve been very expensive for average food.

A came across this resturant via a groupon special. It cost $ 99 for 2 appetizer, 2 entrée, 2 side dishes, 2 desert and a bottle of wine. For appetizer I had the Caesar Salad perfect balance of cheese, lettuce and sauce. 2nd appetizer was fried calamari the marinara sauce was amazing seemed like it was home made. Sauce had a balance consistency of sweet and sour with some spice. Loved the sauce Entrée my husband and I shared the porterhouse. Cooked to perfection it comes out in a sizzling plate. It was just amazing!!! The Mac and cheese was good our second side was the loaded potato. The sides were just regular. Desert bread pudding that was good and cheesecake was creamy. Reason for the four star is because of the cheese used on the mac and cheese was just not creamy enough. Loaded potato was very cheesy it was okay. What really sucked was a fly we had whom came to visit our table every 5mins. Will I return Yes., loved the wine, porterhouse, coffee, desert and appetizer:)

We went there on a Friday evening for a groupon deal. We weren’t sure about what to expect based upon the mixed reviews. Overall, the place was nice and very business orientated. The service was impeccable: our plates were cleared right away, glasses refilled and food came out at perfect times. The food was also delicious with good portions, it was a great deal! French onion soup– great flavor, rich and creamy Mussels in red fradiavolo sauce–(this was recommended by the server and $ 3 extra) huge bowl, tons of mussels in a great sauce with a kick. T-bone streak for 2– amazing, so tender, cooked perfectly! cream of spinach, mashed potatoes– It was standard, however it did get salty towards the end when it got cold. 1 bottle of wine-pinot grigio– standard cheesecake, bread pudding with coffee– both yummy. I think I liked the cheesecake more because it tasted more like the Italian cheesecake. It was very light, not too creamy or sweet.

I’d give Statler 3.5 stars if that was possible, but the meals were good enough to round up rather than down. The Statler Grill is located a block away from Madison Square Garden, so it’s popular with a mix of tourists, office workers and sports fans. That is part of its problem. If you want an upscale steak dinner in a classy environment, this likely is not the place for you. The Friday evening we visited, lots of people looked like they stepped in after a long day touring Times Square, and one group of guys(perhaps on their way to an MSG sporting event) were drunk and REALLY loud. Another problem is that the Statler Grill seems to give away a lot of Groupon-style deals. When you check in, the first thing they ask you is if you have a coupon. I hate that because if you don’t have a coupon(we did not), it leaves you feeling ripped off, and if you have a coupon, you wonder why they asked and if you’re getting second-rate service or food. I just think it’s a bad practice to ask, and I hate when restaurant hosts and hostesses do that. Our dining experience got off to a mediocre start when a server who struggled with English took our drink orders. My wife ordered a Bulleit Old Fashioned, and the guy returned moments later to say«We don’t have that energy drink.» Huh? But, things got much better when our primary server showed up. He was very professional and helpful. And the food was good. My wife felt the short ribs were worth five stars – she was very, very happy. My filet was probably four stars – I’ve had better, but it was a good cut of meat and the preparation was fine. For the price, I expect a dark, quieter décor with more consistent service, but if you’re looking for a decent steak in a part of town not known for great cuisine, you can do much worse than Statler Grill.

We came to Statler with the groupon deal, and good thing we only paid the groupon price. When we first walked in we were greeted by a hostess and brought to an awkward table in the back corner, it wasn’t completely closed off, but close enough, and their was also no light over our table which made me feel like I was eating in the dark. We got the bottle of Pinot Noir, and thankfully it was part of the groupon because it was the worst Pinot Noir I ever had. For appetizers I had the French onion soup and my boyfriend had the fried calamari. My soup was okay, it tasted like it was from a diner, and my boyfriends calamari was nothing special. As entrees we bother ordered the sirloin steak, which was a decent size, but had this really distasteful seasoning on it, and was definitely a cheap cut of meat. It came with shareable sides of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, which the both of them were good, but a little too salty. My boyfriend ordered an extra side of the mac & cheese and I tried it, and didn’t like it at all. For dessert, they offered a bread pudding, and a cheese cake, so we each got one and shared. I had a taste of both, and both were very good. The cheesecake was great. Our server was nice, but not so friendly and we only saw him when he brought us our wine, took our order, and gave us the check. They put 18% gratuity on the bill, making the bill out to be $ 173. I would never pay $ 173 for that food, so i dont know where that price came from. I wouldn’t go back to Statler grill.
