Stuyvesant Square

Beautiful park.
1) Great place to bring a book and read.
2) There is a state of Peter Stuyvesant, which is cool.
3) There is a nice water fountain in the middle.

Small park and kind of hidden– that’s why I like it. It’s not crowded and it’s a great place to bring your dog and reflect on life or just chat with friends. I came here during the day and there weren’t that many people, plenty of space. It’s gated around so it feels like a small hidden space. It’s a well kept park for NYC.

I was only here for a short period, but it’s a perfect blending of Manhattan into a park like form. The reason I use the term «park like» is because the park isn’t totally green with a few paths, its just the opposite. The park is mostly made up of paving stones, with beds of greenery and flowers balancing it out. The pavers blend with its surroundings, like a dressed up version of the sidewalks, but flow so calmly through the park. The ample amount of flowerbeds and greenery helps you forget you’re on the East side, surround by numerous medical facilities. Park benches also flow throughout the park, so there’s more than enough seating and you never have to stand there, hoping someone will be getting up as you want to sit. Althjough I didn’t see it put to use during my visit, there’s also a dog park there for our canine friends to enjoy.
There’s an old-​time flare to the park, with it being surrounded by a stately cast iron fence and gates, but again, the greenery breaks this up so nicely, you never feel like your closed in. It’s a great place to go when you need a little break from everything else around.

This little gem is sort of a secret. It’s not the prettiest of parks, but what it lacks in beauty, it makes up for in uniqueness, location, and privacy.
Trying to find a bench to sit on in this general area is not always likely. Stuyvesant Park provides plenty of benches, shade, and relaxation. If you’re looking for a place to bring your brown bagged lunch or take a quick siesta, this is a good option.
Id give it 5 stars but there are sometimes hospital patient drifters sprawled out here. Nobody ever bothers you. But still.
The squirrel aggression is relatively low here:)

Great place for a morning walk. Great location the bring the dog and a coffee. Just be careful coming here at night, I would advise against it.

A great little park.

This place is SUPER shady at night. There are no lights and there’s def some things going down off in the corners.

This really is quite the charming park so long as you turn a blind between the hours of heroin shooters and «naughty» couples on the benches (also known as about 10pm and 7am) — seriously though, it gets creepy at night and those weren’t random examples. I do enjoy reading a book here during the day though, and looking up at times, pretending to be philosophical, which works perfectly, because if you are on the East part of the park facing uptown, you can see the cars coming down 2^nd ave, and a little gap in the trees lets you see the sky. It’s darling, really.

The space lives up to the name, as the eponymous shape (on the opposite side of Manhattan from the well-​regarded HS) straddles 2^nd Ave. It’s urban chic during the day and exudes that EVill «character», with much of it fenced off & rat-​riddled in the evening. It’s all part of the charm.

What a hidden gem!
My trip was inspired after starting «New York,» a historical fiction novel by Edward Rutherford. Peter Stuyvesant was quite the big wig and was the head the Dutch colony of New Netherland (i.e. New York before it was, in fact, New York). But I digress… The book inspired my journey and I’m glad I went. Convenient to Union Square, but far enough away to feel like a different place altogether. Some historical buildings line the south and west sides of the square and an adorable fountain is placed in the middle of the park with flowers in bloom surrounding the fountain. Plenty of shade, lots of places to enjoy a good book, and some really beautiful flowers.

I had the unfortunate need to visit a family member in Beth Israel Hospital which is next door to this little square of solitude. It made a wonder place to site with friends and family to have a quiet conversation besides the crowd waiting room. It also make a nice place to eat lunch.
The dog walk area appeared to be a great spot for the four-​legged friends to run free.
The park continues on the west side of 2^nd Ave. so pick your favorite side to seat.
Next time when I am bicycling through the area I will remember to stop for a rest.

An unadorned and random NYC park with ample park benches surrounding the perimeter. You can sit here at dusk with some froyo when you think you’ve made some cruddy life decisions. Or maybe you’re one of those people who makes excellent life decisions. In that case, you can come here and celebrate your first-​class and awesome life decision making skills.

A nice little square in the center of the area, there’s a chance to sit around there and relax. Shaded and green in the summer, with a few plots of flowers here and there, this is a place for local residents to relax a bit if they don’t want to make their way over to Union Square or Central Park.

A small quant park on 15^th Street which I came here to rest and chat with a few amazing friends from my long-​time Meetup. We talked about nearly everything and anything that came to mind. There is somewhat sufficient benches to rest or reflect one’s life on a beautiful sunny day. Parts of this park is undergoing construction. There is no children play ground, at least I didn’t see any.
Personally, I find this park just average. My all-​time favorite New York City park is of course, Central Park.

I love how after winter, the daffodils slowly creep up, and they’re all, «hey, here we are… yellow and cute! Just letting you know that winter is mostly over. Ok, carry on.» But then the tulips are all, «yeah, TAKE THIS!» with an explosion of red and pink and yellow and orange and sometimes even stripey tulips.
This park EXPLODES with tulips every spring. There’s like billions… no…TRILLIONS of them. It’s insane, and for that, I love it and it gets 5 stars. Hooray tulip frenzy!

I am reviewing this for the dog run — this is one of my favorites thus far in the city. I have two large, active and very friendly golden retrievers and they have had a blast here every visit. Last time I was worried poor Sierra would even be able to walk home as she was so tired from playing. It is a decent size for ball throwing, very open and the crowd of dogs/​dog owners are friendly. The park is clean compared to others I have been to. The only negative is there is no water/​drinking area provided for the dogs — you must bring your own dish and water with you.

I really don’t see anything special about this park. Maybe if I lived close to it or maybe if I walked to work through it I would think differently, but I walked here from home after reading the reviews and it wasn’t so much worth it. I can see why it would be a sweet spot to stop at on your way to somewhere else but don’t leave the home just to come here!

The dog park/​run (whatever the official term is) has entertained me for an hour on two separate occasions. The unleashed dog area here is huge and the dogs are having such a great time. After my boyfriend and I sat here for an hour watching the dogs play, I actually was able to get him to agree to getting a dog when I’m back from tour. YES!
This park is so incredibly great, it makes you realize again for the umpteenth time why New York City is so incredible.

I’ll remember Stuyvesant Square most when I think about my winter walks to work, walking over a thick carpet of snow occasionally crisscrossed by a trail of paw prints, the trees, silent and round, pregnant with snow; the bronze statue of Peter Stuyvesant standing proudly on a sculpted peg, his crown dusted off with a fresh white cap of snow. Snow everywhere, snow dashed across the icy pavement, snow dressed along the windows of cars parked along second avenue, snow cascading down the burgundy steeple of St. George’s Church, snow in the sky, snow in my hair, snowflakes mingling with the ashes from a cigarette dancing into the snowy earth. Living in California, I never imagined walking to work in the snow could be this rewarding.

This is about as close as you’ll come to peace and quiet in Manhattan. The park has tons of benches, statues and a sweet fountain. It is surrounded by quiet streets, but that is offset by 2^nd Avenue which slices through it, dividing it into two parks. If you stick toward the Rutherford Place side, you should be able to forget about the traffic and enjoy your time in this underrated park.
