Most annoying sushi place in New York City. Apparently on «Sushi Regular» lunch order it’s impossible to get a tuna avocado roll instead of a tuna roll. The owner and the chef have special rules and integrity of sushi offerings must remain 100% rigid. Such an amazing amount of B.S. !!! What sushi restaurant won’t give you a tuna avocado roll ???

Really enjoyed my omakase experience here at the bar. The sushi was very fresh and had an innovative/fun twist to it. Two of my favorites were the salmon with tomato and tuna with tofu sauce/chili. They had a pretty good drink menu as well. Would definitely return.

My favorite sushi place in NYC(5+ stars for the exceptional good food, 3.5 stars for the ambiance). They literally expand the dimensions of my sushi tasting experience. Those sushi plates always impress me no matter how many times I have been there. I’m not big about ambiance, for me the food quality and state matter most. That being said, TriBeCa location is small and simple but I still LOVE it because of the great taste of every single piece of sushi. Among all the choices, tuna platter and sushi platter deluxe are my favorites. The good variety of different mix of texture, taste and how the fish is prepared makes the whole dining experience fun and inspiring. It’s amazing how they present and combine the everyday dishes like silk tofu, eggplant, raw tuna, seared tuna, and etc. The tastes and the experience is hard to put into words, but if I have to describe it to you. I will put it this way — amazing, creative, spaceless, and fresh. Their great food quality kept me going back. Love to bring any of my sushi-lover friends here.

Came here on a postponed Valentines Date and was super excited that my boyfriend was going to have his first Omakase experience. When I saw the Unilocal rating, I was surprised to see it lower than the other Garis but upon arriving, I can see why. The restaurant ambiance was not as impressive as we had hoped. However, the food was still spot-on. We sat on the first floor and did not realize there was a second floor until we left. I would try and avoid the first floor if possible as it is very closed and confined and you have no view of any sushi chefs. It kind of took away the magic. We had a choice between a menu or the omakase but chose the omakase. Why else would you come!(actually I legitimately heard the table next to me say that they don’t eat fish… wrong place to eat bro. Needless to say, he got a California Roll). We started off with some miso soup which was tasty and refreshing. Then the Omakase started, which ended being about $ 110 each for 12 pieces, including tuna, salmon, yellowfin, oyster, lobster, foie gras, trout and mackerel. It was great. This was my boyfriend’s first try of actual good quality sushi and he could tell the difference immediately. We started off with tuna and it just literally melted in our mouth and everything just got better as we progressed. It was great. Everything was great! Each piece was accompanied with a different topping or sauce, making everything pop uniquely. The service was very attentive as well. Overall a great experience with delicious food! Definitely worth a try.

This is great sushi and is served in an establishment that you’d expect to serve great sushi. The restaurant only seats 50 people tops. The service was wonderful. I was greeted by the hostess, and she immediately took my coat before seating my two coworkers and me. After this, our waiter quickly took our drink orders and presented each of us with a warm towel to cleanse our hands. The food was served promptly and accurately. I ordered the yellowtail roll and the spicy tuna roll, both of which impressed me. They weren’t mind-boggling, but still very good. The spicy tuna roll was rolled a little loosely, so a smidgen of its contents escaped. This wasn’t unnerving to me. I’d like to go again and try a few more rolls or split a $ 50 sampler of different sushi styles. I’m sure it’s delicious. At the end of the day, the taste was king. The service was prince. The pouring down rain, which waited for us as we left, was vassal.

I am not sure why Sushi of Gari Tribeca only has 3.5 stars… Sitting at the sushi bar upstairs for omakase was one of the best culinary experiences that I have had while living in NYC for the past 4 years. The food was impeccable and the service was top notch. There are no judgements from the sushi chef or other staff for being a newbie at omakase — they treat you like you are a regular there. Just be warned that the you’ll fall in love with the food so much that you think you could go on forever eating there, but you do have to pay the price of continuing further, and it’s not cheap. Regardless of the price, I will be returning to Sushi of Gari Tribeca for my next omakase experience!

I have seen some negative reviews and I am not sure why. My own experience at this location was five stars all the way. The girl at the counter was super sweet and attentive and we were seated right away. The table service was great, the waitress was at our table within thirty seconds of us being seated. We ordered a lot of sushi as we went for not only dinner, but for the experience of trying them out. I have to say the sushi we ordered was absolutely orgasmic! Some of the best pieces we had were also the simplest and we took note of each one. We took photos of each plate and we now know which ones we liked best for future visits! Yes, it’s not cheap, but if you want great sushi then it is well worth it! The place itself is a bit small and tight and perhaps not the best décor, but when you are going for the delicious meal… all that is quickly overlooked!

This is my first time at this location. I’ve tried the location in the upper east side and heard this location was better. I think they are both equally good. The uptown location is more compact and noisy. They both have completely difference ambiances. We had the omakase. It was so delicious! Every piece of sushi and sashimi was delicately and perfectly seasoned. The fish was so fresh. We stopped at #15 but we could’ve continued into #40! We paired the omakase with Gari’s Sake. The sake was also delicious. Had a soft flavor of Apple. So refreshing. Our sushi chef was such a nice guy. When we asked to stop he asked why and if he wasn’t giving us what we wanted. That was thoughtful. He made sure that our last piece was. The ambience isn’t very romantic but that was just fine. We were there for the outstanding omakase. We were able to talk to eachother without shouting or talking above others. It was a perfect evening and the service was great.

This place was great, we came here in the summer time and sat outside. The fish quality is superb and the flavor combinations were awesome. I would definitely recommend trying the Omakase(pricy — priced per piece), but if you’re not adventurous you can still order some of the pieces from the Omakase menu a la carte, although the pieces are not listed on the menu — check their website for the menu items — Salmon with Sautéed Tomato, Japanese red snapper with topping of seasoned baby greens, roasted pine nuts and Crispy Lotus Root, Seared Toro, seared Fatty Tuna with hint of Garlic and Ginger sauce($ 15) were the standouts! The 46th Street location is also great with a better wine list.

The sushi is ok, but does it worth the price? I don’t think so. Each Taro sushi is $ 15? Mid Taro is $ 12? The place isn’t nice. Comparing with the one in midtown(47 st), this is a joke. I will not go back again to waste my money. Spent almost $ 200 for tiny portion of average food.

Every single piece of sushi within the omakase was AMAZING. The menu here is traditional in that the selection is very limited, but the actual sushi here is modern and fresh! With the different brushes of sauce on each piece, different style of cooking and levels of rawness, and garnishes that added the perfect texture, it was just one of the best sushi experiences that I have ever had in my life! I am dying to go back, but only to order the omakase again. I think about it all the time.

This was the worse service expiriance I’ve had that had to remake my rolls it took 45 minutesto remake my rolls not to mention the manager or owner whoever he was kept looking over our table from behind us making me very uncomfortable he wouldn’t come up to us and ask if we needed anything he just kept stocking us we didn’t have chopsticks or drinks took a very long time this was not a good experience I will never come back here

The sashimi is top quality — very fresh. They are generous with the thickness of the slices. Since this is a truly Japanese sushi place you can also get the type of seafood that only a true Japanese chef knows — like the botan shrimp. Their sashimi platter is pretty standard looking. But if you get the tuna of gari(as one of my friends did), it’s really presented beautifully. I like the low key, quiet feel of this place — even on a Saturday evening. I have never had trouble getting a reservation here. It’s my go-to choice when I am doing a business related dinner on a Saturday evening.

Please take a look at the picture of my sushi… Its all rice and rolled very poorly. The sushi is not good and has a fishy taste. The service is nice and the store is clean. But these rolls were $ 9. Holy crap save your money and go anywhere else.

I am a fan of the spicy tuna rolls here. Best spicy tuna rolls in TriBeCa. Almost worth $ 9. The spicy mayo, $ 3 additional, contains tobiko and has a kick to it. The food is good and the hostesses are friendly. However, the waiters are a bit stiff. They need to add more lunch specials that includes soup and salad. $ 6 for a small salad? $ 4.50 for soup? Too expensive.

Had done some research before dining and I was informed not to go with their omakase as the price quantity ratio was too low. Apparently I had made a right decision. Ordered the asparagus and tuna avocado as starters, miso soup to clear the palate, and eel roll, assorted sashimi as main dishes. The sashimi was a bit mediocre yet I enjoyed tuna avocado a lot. Overall a little bit over priced for a one-star rated Michelin, but worth going for at least once. The crêpe was amazingly good, if you are a big fan of lady M.

I’ve been here a handful of times and it’s always good. Not great, but good. I love the small, unassuming room but hate that the bathroom is basically in the middle of the dining room. The omakase is the reason to go here, but everything is overpriced for what it is. I’ve never had an issue with rude staff or bad sushi here, but have also never left and thought«wow, I can’t wait to go back.» Mostly it’s just been«wow, I can’t believe we just spent $ 250 on ok sushi. Again.»

It was kind of a last minute thing– a friend saved me from some-guy-hitting-on-me-with-a-terrible-pick-up-line by sending me a text, «Sushi of Gari? Got a reservation, but it’s in only 10 minutes from now.» Twist my arm. Club me over the head and drag me there. YES, OFCOURSE I WILLRUNINTHECOLDTOMEETYOUTHEREIN10MINUTES! If that had been the pickup line, the guy would have scored. Instead, I left in a rush to go put raw fish in my mouth. Simple, small, unassuming, intimate. I like that. True, things got a bit tight inside, but sometimes a little tightness doesn’t hurt, you know what I mean? The omakase here was perfectly portioned– I didn’t feel like the restaurant went over the top in an effort to «prove» itself, as many omakase meals seem to imply. The quail egg with yellow tail was pretty amazing, the toro was buttery smooth, and there were some pieces with jalapeño flair that really stole the show. The green tea was very nice on the cold day. The service was a bit odd– the waiter was difficult to understand, and seemed to only address me. He also went into lengths to ensure that we actually wanted to order the omakase, as if he wasn’t sure we would know what it was. I appreciated the warning, but I just felt like it was unnecessary. Otherwise, the experience was excellent.

I’ve never been here, but only have had take out from here. I think it has the perfect amount of fusion if your into that. I loved my take out box! I’ve been to the original location which was delicious as well.

I give you four stars for your food. I give you three stars for the overall eating experience. I guess my expectations were a bit higher for sushi of gari considering you had three other locations in NYC. You’re humble and modest in your décor. You also pack in your Tribeca location as though we were sardines. The place was hot and cold — please fix your thermostat. Onto the food, we got the sushi deluxe dinner set and the tuna of gari. Loved both and got a side order of uni too. I loved it! Don’t know that I will be back to this location but I certainly wouldn’t mind ordering take out from this location.
