Great neighborhood«Diner». The servers are attentive. This was the 3rd or 4th time I was here and have loved everything I have gotten so far. The meatloaf and the paninis are fresh and really scrumptious. The serving sizes are generous. What really proved to me that this was a great neighborhood place was the owner was waving at familiar faces as they walked by and there were obviously many regulars eating dinner there.

We had excellent service here but it was lunchtime during a week day. The prices are the same as any diner, but this diner is a bit older and no kept up as the rest. Food was fine and came exactly as ordered.

Poor service from a mentally challenged employee who was flamboyant and sassy. He said he had no gingerale. I waited a long time to be serviced at the table. I eventually got up and left. This place is the pits avoid at all costs.

It’s a little drab in here. The lighting is old and the clientele is as well. It’s one where people mosey in and out slowly. This is perfectly fine! But don’t expect a bustling energetic place for brunch. A serious updating of the upholstery should be in store. So I was here with a friend for brunch and realized that the food is definitely better than the décor. 1. Chicken tenders: Interesting. It’s between grilled and fried. Not enough breading if fried, and too much breading if it was supposed to be grilled. Anyways, it was decent with the tomato-based sauce it came with — also interesting between it was a cross between salsa and marina sauce. 2. Eggs benedict: This was decent and pretty standard. My favorite part were the potatoes, which came in larger chunks of hash browns. 3. Eggs florentine: The spinach was a bit bland, but the poached egg was OK. Again, the potatoes were good. The coffee was good! Prices are moderate for what you get. The service is unenthusiastic but fast.

While exploring the city one night with newbie parents who were growing hungrier by the minute and wanting something basic(think: a sandwich or salad with very little on it), we passed this café, and it caught my eye. I suggested we go in without checking Unilocal(I know, a crime! But when mother is grouching about her lack of food and it’s getting late… well, sacrifices must be made). Now that I’m writing my review, I see that this place’s rating are below-par. Had I looked on Unilocal,I would never have graced this location with the family presence, but I must say: these reviews simply must just be old. My father got a tuna salad sandwich and asked for his bacon crispy(which few restaurants actually do) — and he loved it! The tuna was great, the bacon was hot, crispy, and fresh, and the toast was toasted very well. He also got fries which were hot, fresh, and not very oily, an A+ all around. My mother and I opted for a bit more basic: salads. I got a grilled chicken salad, not feeling very hungry or adventurous. My mom went for the caesar salad with chicken, and claimed it’s one of the best salads she’s had(it was certainly large, and the cole slaw on the side was an added benefit). Event though I’m not much of a sandwich or salad person, it pleased my two very picky parents and I’d give it another shot for sure. Oh, and the staff? Talkative and attentive to us!

Very poor service, no diner service or diner food, the french fries that they serve look like they had been purchase at McDonald as leftovers(very tiny and skinny and small portion, crumbs or maybe the day before leftovers) chicken does not taste like chicken and if it is chicken its a prehistoric chicken, the OLIVES look like they been out of a can that had been left open for 47 years not fresh at all the food is terrible, i rather walk an extra mile before i walk into this diner again …NOGOOD !!!

Stopped in today, because I saw my husband and our friend, both of 50 plus years, inside. Since I didn’t want to intrude on their get-together, I stood near their table chatting for a few minutes and left. As I did, the surly waiter mumbled under his breath something like«don’t bother my customers». I was too shocked to respond. Husband and friend have been good customers there for years, but I hope they find another place to get together.

Definitely a lackluster experience. The space isn’t particularly nice or inviting and the service was very slow. I waited a long time for french toast and two eggs. The food was very meh and it certainly doesn’t seem like it took more than a few minutes to heat up/cook. The prices are what you’d expect for a diner in NYC and in the area.

Service and food awful. Friend found stick in food and manager while being extremely rude and verbally abusive lied and said it was part of the omelet. Waiter was terrible too. Manager also lied and said the waiter does not speak English when he does. Avoid at all costs.

Large portions of bland slightly overpriced boring food. Having been to many other Manhattan diners, my greatest disappointment was the food just wasn’t tasty. The service was okay, and everything appeared clean including the bathroom.

The food wasn’t anything special, and the prices surely did not make up for it. The biggest reason why I’m giving this place 1 star only is because of a personal vendetta with the owner. The other day, I was walking behind the owner into the restaurant(who had just finished smoking a cigarette outside) and he didn’t even hold the door open for me. Normally, I wouldn’t care, but I was clearly in an orthotic as I recently had foot surgery. To make matters worse, he then spent his time staring at my friend like a true creep. The guy had the word ‘asshole’ written all over his face. I guess he wasn’t used to seeing a woman under the age of 50 at his restaurant, but still there is no excuse. Never going there again.

The food isn’t anything special. It’s most often bland, with a minimal amount of preparation. The portions are generous and you’ll leave physically satisfied, if nothing else. The clientele is predominately senior citizens who know the waiters by name and don’t seem to move for hours. Price is okay, but the value is questionable.

I feel like a two is pretty generous considering the food I had, but I’m feeling charitable today. So this place seems like it attracts old people who want to sit down, read their morning paper and gnaw on pieces of toast. I ordered their brunch set, which gives you an appetizer of either a Virgin Mary or a fruit salad, an entrée of your choice, and a drink. I got the Eggs Florentine. And everything about it was weak. The hollandaise sauce, typically incredibly unhealthy but also incredibly tasty, was bland. The spinach tasted and looked like it was boiled till the end of its life. The home fries were a mess of boiled potatoes, haphazardly griddled for about 10 seconds and sprinkled with a token amount of paprika, which did nothing for its taste. Agh.

OK, i’ll break it down for you this way. If you are reading this online, this place is not for you. If you are reading on an iPhone, keep walking. The lunch time crowd is a crowd of regulars that remember what it was like to dial with 7 numbers only and the yellow pages were the only source of information. Bottom line, a ton of way older folks. «Park your walker over here» signs… Now, that would be OK if the food was OK. I’m sorry, it was not very good even for a diner. It might be OK for a hungover breakfast place but the coffee was weak. Hate to give such low marks but unless you met the demographic i describe, you can do way way better.

When you’re in a bind and the snow and ice is terrible, you just need a plac e that offers reasonable food and decent prices. SCR fills half that equation. The service was okay, however, the quality of the food served didn’t really justify the price charged. Other diners offer a plethora of food enough for more than 1 person, SCR offered a meager grilled chicken cultlet for its soulvaki offering. At 11 bucks, I’ve expected better, the coffee too seemed more watery than coffee based. Has the location for the neighbor, but needs to improve on quality.

This is a nice little diner hidden away on 1st Ave. where mostly older locals come for their weekend breakfasts. It’s a good diner, but the café’s proximity to its namesake lends itself to charging some outrageous prices. I once ordered two egg-and-cheese bagel sandwiches for take-out and they charged me $ 10.80. C’mon now. Tal Bagels is just down the street and I can cook my own eggs, thank you.
