Not one of my FAVORITE Broadway shows of all time but is different.
Simple dog humor with the new owner .
4 characters in the play. One of them acts as a dog. Matthew Brodery starring as the owner who fohnd the dog and fell in love with it. But his wife insist in getting rid of it.
2:30 hrs of how Humans have more of a Contact with animals. How we treat the dog better than our love ones (which ia true).
Show is not appropriate for young kinds. Some foul words were used during the stage.
Theatre itself is big. But low attendance (the show will end by January). glad i didnt pay regular price.
I would recommend this if you are a ANIMAL lovers.

What just happened? I am baffled and freaked out!
A story where a dog is being sexualized as a partner for an owner who spanks her and is jealous after watching her with another dog. I just didn’t like it. But the story itself might have been saved if Matthew would have moved his arms or there wasn’t a random song in the middle that didn’t fit with the rest of the show or if the other characters weren’t so disjointed and over the top.
The whole time I was thinking «If this is a persons one shot at Broadway, they are so unlucky».

The dog stole the show… will I meant Annaleigh Ashford as the dog Sylvia.
She made the play very funny, entertaining and lively.
Robert Sella, who play three characters, was also great.
Mathew Broderick was good as Greg and Julie White was great as Kate.
The set is uniquely design and played well into the story.
Overall this play is entertaining.

Annaleigh Ashford stole the entire show playing Sylvia, the dog.
I owned a dog for over 10 years before she past away. Annaleigh Ashford really has the mannerisms down for a dog. She reminded me so much of my own dog, Mimi that I miss her.
All the scenes with Annaleigh Ashford as Sylvia made me laugh and tilt my head to the right as I had fond memories of Mimi.
There were a few moments in the play which I thought could be cut down a bit because it started to drag a bit for me but overall I enjoyed Sylvia on Broadway. There were also some moments where I could not hear some of the dialogue because they were mumbling and the voices were not loud enough to travel all the way up 3 flights to the balcony!
The way Annaleigh Ashford was dressed and how her hair was done in a few scenes, from my vantage point in the balcony, reminded me of Debbie Gibson back in the 80’s. My BF even started to sing «Only In My Dreams». From our view she really looked like her! What an uncanny resemblance!
There were some scenes where the master, Greg, played by Matthew Broderick and the dog, Sylvia, were getting a little bit too close. I thought something inappropriate was going to happen but that was probably just my imagination. Thank goodness it didn’t go that direction! I would have gotten upset!
I do wish I could have seen Sylvia back when it was on Off-​Broadway in the mid 90’s just for a comparison.
All in all, for the price we paid, the show was enjoyable. The seats were okay. We were in the center balcony, 3 rows up from the front. I was able to see everything from that vantage point. If you want to save some money, those seats are okay… really tight but okay.

A long time friend and I went to see Sylvia this past Saturday, we really enjoyed the show. It was truly funny. Before the show my friend and I were thinking how on earth a human being will play the role of a dog! Well Annaleigh Ashford surprised us and all the other spectators inside the Cort Theatre. We had a wonderful afternoon and to top it all, we were able to purchase the tickets a week prior on TDF at an incredible price. I know some of you might be wondering why go see this show it sounds corny .Well I am here to tell you the contrary. Go see The Play You will definitely enjoy it.

This was deeply cute and while I felt the writing was more of a 3.5 star kind of deal, the performances were 4.5 star-​worthy. I cannot complain too much as I was able to obtain cheap tickets to this show and with a 2 hour (including intermission) running time, this was way more enjoyable than wasting an afternoon at the movies. I will say that the cheapest tickets for this show are $ 32 (the highest non-​premium seats being around $ 137, which is a steal by Broadway standards), which may actually be worth it, since I was high up in the balcony and still had a complete view of the stage.
I am not the sharpest as I thought an actual dog was going to play the dog for which the play is named. Luckily, that was not the case as Annaleigh Ashford was glorious at playing man’s (Matthew Broderick’s) best friend, wife surrogate, adopted daughter and in some instances, his emotional mistress. In all honesty, I had genuine moments where I thought a beastiality subplot would surface but I think that Sylvia just represented a love that the main character thought he was missing in his life.
There are no overly intellectual or existential themes in this show but it was also not fluffy enough to remind me of a Disney production. Indeed, a surprising amount of cursing is let loose, especially when the eponymous character spots a cat, her historical mortal enemy. Ms. Ashford is physically and emotionally adept at playing anthropomorphic canine that is ostensibly ruining a 22-​year marriage. She makes her part seem effortless, which is not the case, considering how much running around the stage.
As charming as she, Kate (Julie White) & Greg (Matthew Broderick) are at playing an empty nest couple moving onto the next phase of her life, my favorite actor in the play was Robert Sella, playing multiple roles, all hilarious, distinct, unique with respect to their mannerisms and for all those characters, he delivered every line like a boss. He easily stole every scene he was in and I would go see this play again for him alone.

What a funny show. Mathew Broderick always funny. The writing by a.r. gurney is very on point. Sylvia is played by an actress who play in original kinky book and last year in You cant take it with you. i think she won tony award for both parts (annaleigh ashford) she plays a dog in this play and is amazing. sounds crazy, but go see this play,
