2.5 stars. I was entertained overall but it was not a good show. the plot was very weak, pretty much no progression. Rich stoner kids hanging out in the 80s, no real resolution from there.(–1.5 star) The main actress was pretty bad too. she always uses her overly dramatic super emotion voice in every line. it’s just too much.(–1 star) the best part of the show is definitely Michael Cera(the awkward kid) and his funny dancing/hookup seen with the female lead. The dude carries the show, but it’s just not enough to justify the show unless you get a really good deal. Good thing I had a Livingsocial Cuepon. Pros: Awkward kid is sometimes funny, carries the whole show. Cons: Female lead bad actor –1 star Plot/Story goes nowhere –1.5 star

I ended up getting a rush ticket for this show a few days ago. I’m a big Michael Cera fan from his days on Arrested Development and really knew nothing about the play going in. Show was very funny and I’m a new Kieran Culkin fan but there wasn’t much to the play outside of that… no big ah-ha moment, climax, etc. I’m still glad I got to catch this before the end of its run.

I only went because I obtained a complimentary ticket, but this was surprisingly good nonetheless. When I read the basic premise I thought it would be a depressing look into the lives of Manhattan teenagers, but it ended up being a character study put forth by three actors in what resembled a small New York apartment in the 1980s. Despite the sheer talent of the actors, the play is not worth the full price of admission because even though the two main male characters nailed their performances, and Michael Cera was especially hilarious throughout both acts, the plot was flimsy and it felt like it could have easily been an Off-Broadway workshop rehearsal. The two main characters face a dilemma when trying to both hide and not spend a large sum of money pilfered from one of the character’s fathers. Those shenanigans take place over a weekend. That is the entire plot. I think I was expecting a resolution or consequences and neither came to fruition. Therefore, even though it is a NY Times Critic’s Pick and it ends its run in five days, I would not suggest seeing it as there are far more complex shows you can spend your money on.
