Take Me To the Water

I signed up for a semester of swimming lessons at the Forest Hills Jewish Center pool with Take Me To The Water. In short, the place was disgusting and was not conducive to any sort of learning so I called to cancel my membership with Take Me to The Water. When I explained why, they did not even apologize or act surprised. I believe they knew that that facility is dilapidated. They offered to refund the value of the REST of my lessons, not including the one lesson that I didn’t attend bc my experience was so vile. I am shocked at a) their lack of surprise or concern about the conditions b) the lack of apology and c) the lack of refund. I am pasting my review of the FHJCC below for your perusal.

I signed up for swimming lessons and arrived, swimcap in hand, only to be horrified by the conditions around the pool.
* Unorganized — I arrived and had no idea where to go. There were only 2 custodians working there and neither were able to provide assistance.
* Overpopulated — The crowd was similar to a very large elementary school’s lunch cafeteria. Think at least 100 children, screaming.
* Dirty — The locker rooms were old, stained, and rusty. Some lockers were rusted shut. Floors murky, often with clumps of hair. I don’t think they are cleaned regularly.
* WTF — Locker rooms were „gendered“ but the women’s locker room had a large gap, giving us a lovely view of adjacent men’s urinals. There was no private changing area. Several boys (like 8 – 9 yrs old) were in women’s locker room, one of whom kept staring at me while I undressed.

There are a few entries for this company. My child took classes with them at the Millennium Hotel by the U.N. We take lessons elsewhere, through a different organization, but the location of those lessons is a drag. I had read reviews here on Unilocal and elsewhere so I proceeded with caution.
The organization is as a bad as their reviews. From calling to reserve a space — having to call a few times before I even got a call back. To a nearly-​incompetent person on the phone who clearly hates their job. The facility is fine, the pool is a bit small but the locker rooms are a huge improvement over the other lessons we take. And the instructor is awful. I don’t know how anyone could learn to swim with this person. They actually asked me at the second lesson what I wanted to do next. Um, isn’t that why I take my kid to a professional for instructions because I don’t know?
I tried them since the location is so much better (nicer and closer) that our other lessons but I will go to a far away, grungy place with a great instructor before taking another semester with these jokers.
