Tenth Avenue Lounge

Definitely a neighborhood spot, it’s small enough to feel cozy with your crew of 15 or drinks for 2. On the weekends this place is always bumping, and a crowd favorite for the last drink of the night before heading home (Drink prices are pretty good — I think $ 8 for top shelf liquor drinks). During the week it’s hit or miss with the crowd — it could be packed, it could be empty. Most of the time the bartender has plugged in his iPod and the grooves are generally great — stuff you wouldn’t normally hear out, but favs nonetheless! One night a guy came in with a violin and played along to whatever was spinning on the ‘pod! You never know what’s going to happen.
Just found out recently they’ve also got a menu to order from if you’re having any cravings. That is, assuming the wineglasses of cheddar cheese golden fish aren’t enough to appease your appetit!
Make sure you keep an eye out for the two cats that roam free — Hatch & Latch (lovingly referred to as Radio in our posse),

I had my first two NY birthdays at this place. It’s the perfect place for a small party (20 – 30 people). Any more than that, the space would be too crunched. Since I was the birthday boy, the DJ allowed me to plug in my iPod and play my own playlist! NY DJs NEVER allow that. Having my music flowing definitely made my parties much more fun!
On a regular basis, the bar seems fairly dead. Every time I have come back (not often), there have only been a few scattered patrons. I think it gets a bit more crowded on the weekends. It’s not terribly out of the way, but it’s not in that Hell’s Kitchen gay pub crawl area. I think people tend to stick to the 8^th/​9^th Avenue bars.
The crowd is mostly gay, with a few straights thrown in. A great place to go with a mixed crowd. If you are looking for a very relaxing, chill night, definitely check it out.

Met a friend here on a rainy Wednesday after work to kill time before a concert and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Having lost the scrap of paper with the exact address, I also had to ask three people and walk by it twice before I actually found this place. It’s nothing special, but it’s not bad either, kind of cozy.

who knew this place existed? it’s so tucked away from what you’d consider ‘mainstream gay culture’ in nyc. i popped in last night only because a friend was hosting a birthday party there. now — i’m not sure if it was packed because of the party or if the place is usually like that. anyway — hot bar-​staff in that cute ‘boy next door’ kind of way. drinks weren’t over the top expensive. just enough space to be able to carve one out for your own and chill out. the insane thing was the bar cats — just chilling out as if nothing was going on — friendly little things and very unexpected. i’d definitely go back — but i agree with sam p. — i have to remember where it is first!

Quaint little bar in Hell’s Kitchen, nothing exceptional. Nice bartenders, good drinks but not terribly happening even on a weekend. Nice place to chat with friends. This place is really small and narrow. I bet it couldn’t handle crowds if it ever gets crowded.

I meet up with friends here every month or so — we all used to work nearby, so it just turned out to be a convenient place to get together.
Last week I got there super-​early and I think that I was the first one at the bar. I couldn’t tell if the other person sitting there worked at the place or not. When you arrive early, you get to see one or maybe both of the resident bar cats. They’re super affectionate little beasts and they crawled all over me while I tried to drink, which was fine with me because I love cats, but I always wonder how people who are allergic to animals feel about stuff like that.
The bartenders here are great — really friendly and will make lots of interesting drinks. Pretty small crowd on weekdays, so it’s a great place to meet up with friends because you’ll actually get a seat and be able to sit and talk with each other!

It was a dark and stormy night in Hell’s Kitchen when three friends wandered drunkenly into Xth Avenue Lounge after one too many Martinis at Vlada. The place was cute, and there were enough people there to make it seem pleasantly packed, but not crowded. Certainly a chill spot for a Saturday night. I successfully avoided an awkward ex-​encounter (impressive considering my state). Drinks were cheap, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I’d definitely come back… if I can remember where it is.
