Shocked to see that this place only got a couple of stars. I know its just your standard thai food but I thought it was very good. I got the black noodle pad thai with tofu. It said it was made with a sweet dark soy sauce but I thought it had the exact same flavor as regular pad thai, but nonetheless delicious. My friend got the chicken thai baguette with the Pinegrand sweet & sour pineapple sauce. I think he was really surprised by this sandwich and the way it was prepared. He said he never saw anything like it … and also thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I added mushrooms to mine which tacked on an extra .50 and got the lychee lemonade which was really good and refreshing($ 2.50) for a grand total of $ 12, not to shabby. His was 7.25 + a snapple and it was like $ 10. Good food, quick service, nice little seating area. Good place to grab something quick.

A little disappointing Food does not taste very good compared to other places at the same price($ 8 – 9 for noodle dish) Quality and portions are fine. Klong, spice, and wondee siam are way better for the price

We stopped by Thai Me Up for a late lunch because we were intrigued by the«Thai Baguettes». I’m always thrilled when I enjoy a vegetarian version of an interesting menu item… I got the ginger coconut tofu sandwich on wheat, and my fiancé got the spicy red basil chicken on white. We both thought the sandwiches were very unique and delicious. The bread was crunchy on the outside, but soft enough to meld into the flavors of the sauce and ingredients. The crunch of the veggies in the sandwich also added great texture and flavor. I also had the carrot ginger salad, which was a complete flop. It was essentially thick strips of shredded carrots over lettuce doused in soy ginger dressing. I would definitely go back for a return visit for the sandwiches, and wouldn’t mind trying some of the other dishes on the menu(soups, noodles, dumplings, fried rice, etc.)

I only discovered this hole in the wall gem because I was living in the area a while back and went on the hunt for a cheap easy dinner. It’s not MEANT to be an authentic Thai food restaurant… they have a few different things on the menu which pretty much are in the category of noodles, dumplings, soup and Thai sandwiches. I have never tried one of their sandwiches because I am a slave to their pad thai noodles and spicy coconut chicken soup… TODIE. Their portions are huge and I always have enough noodles for lunch the next day, which surprisingly keeps very well. For an appetizer, entrée and drink will cost you about $ 10-$ 11. They do have a counter and chairs or stools to sit on if you want to stay, but it is more of a take-out place, but it’s cute for what it is. Another thing I love about it is the open kitchen. You can watch your meal being made from scratch right in front of you in these giant woks. I know the last time I was there they had a bench outside which is irrelevant to the food quality but it shows they are courteous to their costumers who are waiting to bring home their food, so they don’t have to stand for fifteen minutes. I unfortunately don’t live in the area anymore but still ponder some days whether to go make the trip downtown for this hidden treasure of a place. And don’t forget the Thai iced tea!

Not a pleasant eating experience! First, it was FREEZING! Everyone was wearing their winter coats! As if the cold wasn’t bad enough, there was a fan or vent that you couldn’t escape no matter where you sat. It would randomly turn on and off, so we would sporadically have gusts of cold air blowing on us while we ate. I also had to wait forever and a day for an order of vegetable dumplings that I ended up canceling after waiting a total of 45 minutes from when I ordered them. We sat down and ate our entrees(mediocre Pad Thai) and then waited for the dumplings. While we waited the cashier came out a few times to tell us it would be 5 – 10 more minutes. Finally, after waiting 45 minutes with no dumplings in sight, we had to leave to make an appointment. The cashier gave me my money back but was furious with me for canceling the order and gave me a hard time about it. I don’t blame the workers. They are trying their best to get things done in a work environment that is freezing cold and understaffed. The owner of this place clearly needs to learn how to run a business. This place is not worth it. There are plenty of wonderful Thai restaurants in NYC. Go there instead!

If you’ve ever had Thai in Queens, don ‘t come near this place. If you’ve had Americanized Thai and never had anything else, you find this place delightful. I ordered the Pad Thai and was more than disappointed. Service is fast, friendly and the food is cheap. It’s just not good Thai.

My grandmother treated me to a meal here after spending time in the city. I ordered the pad thai w/shrimp & steamed veggies. I was definitely in love with this place after that. I went back one more time before I moved to Miami & ordered the same thing(my tastebuds are very picky. If I like something, I continue to eat it, if not… I don’t). The noodles were cooked to perfection, the pad thai sauce was flavorful, the veggies were nice & crisp, and the shrimp was clean. I like to examine shrimp before I eat it, not too many places clean their shrimp to my standards. I also tried the iced tea w/milk. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t something I see myself ordering again any time soon. Overall, I was satisfied with the service & the food. I hope when I move back to NY, this place is still as good as I remembered.

There is nothing Thai about this place. This is basically a novelty place. It’s a small, narrow hole-in-the wall place which is trying to take a Thai dish and put it into a baguette sandwich. There are two tables with high stools and a long counter along one wall with a few stools as well. They offer«Thai» noodles, soups, and sandwiches. I tried the Red Basil sandwich with chicken and also opted to add crushed peanuts(which is 50 cents extra). The sandwich is about 8 inches long and was $ 8. It did not taste totally bad. It somewhat resembled Thai red basil curry. However, it was definitely off. The sauce in the sandwich seemed watered-down. Also, despite the fact that the Red Basil is listed on the menu as being very spicy(with two chili peppers next to it), it was not spicy at all. I didn’t need to drink even a sip of water before I finished the whole thing. I would avoid this one. You are better off getting a Vietnamese sandwich for less money.

Stopped in here with boyfriend for a quick meal. It’s a hole in the wall, but the chicken and shrimp dumplings are very good(if not a tad too soft) and the spicy fried rice is outrageous. I am most definitely going to make the trek east back for the rice. I also want to try their soups. Yum yum Bangkok.

Walking about 14th Street, a restauranteur friend of mine told me about this place and decided to try it out. This unique sandwich bar, founder by Amir Hushinsky from Israel, reminded me of the delicious vendors in Singapore aka Hawker Stalls. Shrimp Red Basil is quite delectable, perfectly cooked, and I must say: the sandwich bit back. I LOVEIT! If you are pregnant and crave that spice kick in the pants: this is a must have! Spicy Coconut Noodle is a perfect soup on a nippy day… the menu is simple and the lychee tea is not too sweet. I look forward to this location expanding in Midtown. Will be back to try out the other dishes.. . Thai me Up: I’m a fan!(and with a name like that, how could one not??)

More like 2.5 stars. It was just ok. I was expecting the red curry sandwich to be a little more robust and spicy. I also had a vegetarian summer roll that didn’t really appeal due to the lack of freshness. Given that there are other Asian sandwich shops close by one can do better.

Years ago when it opened, Thai Me Up was handing out sample sandwich pieces on the street. The boy and I snagged one each. At the time, these two hungry and moneyless kids thought the dripping saucy mass was awesome(and giant, for being free). We finally decided to visit Thai Me Up this past summer(sorry, we are bad consumers). Yuck this time! The fake-Thai-flavored chicken was Lean Cuisiney. Yes, the people who work there are nice, but skip this place and go get a cheaper/larger/legit delicious banh-mi from a sourfaced Vietnamese lady instead.(Try Sau Voi, on Lafayette and Walker Sts). I dunno, bad Thai-ish food with the misfortune of having been stuffed in bread. Seems like it’s just the NYU kids raised on McDonald’s that have kept this place in business. Silly NYU kids.

Got the tofu panang pad thai and spicy coconut soup… definitely not on the level of proper Thai cuisine but not a shabby substitute. The soup was worth coming back for. I’d definitely order that again. The food wasn’t causing me to tear up or anything, so be wary if you’re a spice lover… the food is probably 2 to 3 degrees less hot than the menu may suggest to you. Still, I’d return purely for the soup… which was creamy and extra satisfying.

TURNUPTHESPICE! BRINGONSOMEFLAVOR! The food always smells good when it is being cooked. BUT it does not always taste as good as its smell. I have been to this place three times, and every time I eat food here I always regret going because the food does not always satisfy my hunger. I have tried the chicken pad thai, vegetable dumplings, and various noodle dishes. And all of them seem to just taste too plain. I am sorry to say that their food needs more flavor and taste and fierceness that Thai cuisine is all about. Nevertheless, my food is always ready within a reasonable 10 minutes. The place is a bit small but manageable. There are high tables and chairs for small groups of friends or couples to eat.

This is a place I will never recommend or go back. I tried the Thai noodle and dumplings here. Noodle is alright but the dumplings are among the worst I had ever had. The staff there are very nice though!

What a clever name! Will try Thai Chicken Baguette. Bad sloppy sandwich. I came here for lunch and ordered the chicken baguette. While Bahn Mi it isn’t, this sandwich doesn’t even taste good(boring and bland). I usually don’t waste food, but I made an exception. I threw out the other ¾’s of the sandwich. IFHTP1

I’m not going to lie, we were drawn to Thai Me Up because of the name. We were also trying to satisfy my days-long craving for thai food, but we should have kept going. I’m sure we’d have found something a little better, if only we had tried. Collectively, we ate various versions of the pad thai, all of which were a little off… the chicken was a little dry, there wasn’t nearly enough egg, and everything just felt a little wrong in my mouth. We also wanted to try the dumplings, but none of the flavors were ready, and when we asked how long it’d be, they said something to the effect of «too long». I was a bit miffed at the time but in retrospect this was probably for the better. The only plus side is my friend doesn’t like bean sprouts, and when she asked them to keep those out they added in some substitute veggies. Don’t remember what they were, but her dish was highly superior to the rest of ours. Thai food, you could do so much better.

Originally only stopping in due to its name, it has since become one of my favorite places to eat before I head into work! The people are always friendly, and the food is always fantastic. I’m in love with the black noodle something or the black pearl sandwich and I also enjoy their thai iced tea.

A great place that custom orders your noodle/soup/sandwich — chose a style, a sauce, and any extras like heart of palm and mushrooms. The veggies aren’t really cooked much but the tofu strips are firm and hold up well with the noodle — black pearl sauce is good, too. Sandwiches — not quite as good. But will try out the other noodles and options another time. Seating is limited — five tables in the small back, and a bench outside. Otherwise, stand up to order up front. Slow cooking…

You might wonder why I’ve gone back here if I only give it one star. Well it *IS* edible, and it is in my neighborhood, so you know sometimes I’m just walking by, and feel like abusing my taste buds. I’ve had the pad thai, but they also have a thai noodle sandwich, which I haven’t tried. But the taste is lacking not just because the noodles are usually overcooked, but because the sauces are kinda lacking complexity. What else? Usually the place smells like the garbage is too close to the kitchen. oh, and the tables aren’t usually very clean. I think I’ve hit on all the negative points about this place. I’m trying to think of some positive ones too. Will get back to you…
