Went to the comedy show. Paid $ 20. Microphone didn’t work. 2 of the 6 comics were kinda funny. The other 4 were terrible would not go back.

Arguably the worst comedy I’ve ever seen. We paid $ 20 each to see comedy that others were offered for free, and the ginger guy in charge, PJ, promised us our money back if we didn’t enjoy it. We came out to find him during the second act(each about 10 mins) and he said he «wasn’t going to deal with this shit tonight» when we asked for a refund. We would’ve come out earlier but as they forced us to buy drinks, we waited until we finished our drinks to ask. He proceeded to take the stage, very intoxicated, and spent the entire time talking about Donald Trump being awful and the Trans bathroom issue. Original stuff, bro.

Fun bar. Reminds me of Austin, TX. Local bar with comedy and karokoee night on Saturdays.

Stopped in for a daytime beer — Bass on tap hit the spot, best temperature and super crisp. You can’t beat $ 4 happy hour prices in this hood! Bar tender cool and nice atmosphere especially with the open doors on a nice sunny day. Grimey wood makes for a nice hang. Enjoy!

After hitting up two spots already one Saturday night, my girls and I were walking down Macdougal looking to get into something fun. Some girl at this place was reciting her ad for karaōke so we decided to go in. Somewhat empty, we decided to go in anyway. We put our names on the list to perform a song and the waiter keeps coming out to take our order. At first I thought he was just being attentive so I told him we may not want anything because we’ve already had a lot to drink. He then tells us that we can order a drink or leave. Even at that point I told him I’d drink a ginger ale and he wouldn’t get me my drink until all of my friends ordered immediately. Sir, this place isn’t even close to full and you want to threaten to kick us out. In my opinion, it was a very poor management decision. If your place isn’t even packed don’t kick people out who haven’t decided to order that very second. We were in there for all of 7 minutes. I was having an ok time until that happened.

It’s a grimy dive bar. If you want a dive bar, that’s awesome. Come here. But this is a diver bar you could find anywhere. Bartender wasn’t very friendly. Beer selection and price was very mediocre. Tables were sticky. Oh and apparently they have free comedy. How do I know this? Because we kept being asked over and over again to go try the free comedy show despite our obvious disinterest. Finished the beer and left before we were asked for a 5th time!

Went to dinner down the block at La Lanterna, and ended up here, after a guy outside the bar invited us in for free comedy. My friend and I got beers at the bar and then headed into the back for the comedy. It was pretty packed for a comedy club/bar on a Monday night, and got slowly more packed as the night went on. The comedians were very funny, and I really like the friendly vibes this bar was giving off. Definitely bringing some friends here for the comedy Monday’s!

Peter is the best bartender that I’ve met — he makes it a point to get to know you and remembers you. I would recommend this bar to anyone who’s not a dick seriously

Strange to see such mixed reactions to the staff on Unilocal.I went tonight to see a friend do some stand up comedy, and wanted to make sure to post here since I had such good interactions with the staff. First, I had a drink at the bar and the bartender helped my friend pick a beer and was super nice about it, which doesn’t happen at every bar I go to in the city. Then, in the back, the guy that was serving drinks was super friendly. I paid with card and jokingly told him I was going to tip him an annoying amount. When I asked him what an annoying amount is, he shot back, «A hundred. That’s really annoying.» Well done, sir! Karaōke filled the room quickly after the comedy ended, and we stuck around to watch a shit show of singers. But it was cute for a bit. Definitely not as gross and divey as some of the bars in the area, at least not in the back room. I’d go back.

I’ve only been here twice. The first time was a couple of years ago when a friend and I randomly decided to bar crawl through the village, but only stopping at places we’ve never been before. There are a ridiculous number of bars in this area, mostly NYU college-type bars. The Grisly Pear is barely noticeable, considering that it’s right next to Off the Wagon, which dominates that section of the block. It’s small compared to other bars around there, but not nearly as loud and pretentious. Most recently, I ended up there while I was out celebrating my birthday with a group of friends. It’s practically tradition to make karaōke a part of the evening, and when a friend mentioned that the Grisly Pear has karaōke on Fridays and Saturdays from 1 a.m. to… whenever, I figured it was worth checking out. Karaōke is held in a back room, where I guess the also have comedy shows on other nights. We arrived right around midnight and were able to claim a section in the back for our group. It was so much fun! Seeing as our group was comprised of all levels of karaōke-ers, from people who have never done it(and were hesitant to try) to the seasoned type, who could be competitive on The Voice, this was a perfect venue belt out our finest Journey and Spice Girls. It wasn’t a big crowd, so the wait times weren’t long, but there were more than enough people to provide a great audience. It was an awesomely fun, non-intimidating, karaōke experience. Beyond that, the bar is nothing special, but seeing as I’m no longer that much into the college scene, I would definitely choose the Grisly Pear over the many other bars in the area. The drinks were about the same price as anywhere else, but strong. The staff was incredibly friendly. And it was pretty clean for a dive-y sort of bar. It’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re looking for some late-night, weekend karaōke. And I do intend to return at some point to check out a comedy show.

Loud, karaōke in the back room. Came to meet up with friends before heading home. Was told I had to order to stay and there’s a $ 20 minimum on cards.

My new favorite bar in New York City. The bartenders are super nice and Gary made a special drink just for me. The drinks are not watered down like some other reviewers have mentioned. There’s a very low douchebag ratio here and the women who frequent the bar know how to speak without saying«like» every other word. Cheap drinks and great atmosphere. but I’d rather people. Come here so it’s a little more exclusive dive bar

We went to a ton of places in New York and this is the one we didn’t want to leave. Unfortunately we found it on the last nite. So we made the most of it. And burnt it down there. Great staff w awesome sense of humor.

I didn’t like the way I met this place but I came here to spy on my husband and I enjoyed it so much I went back just for fun. There was a comedy show the first time I went and that was 4 stars. The second time was karaōke and that was 5 stars. My husband did Miley Cyrus for me and it was a priceless night for us The third time was not so good. The comedian was a jerk and he was very offensive more then funny. i didn’t chuckle and he needed to get off the stage. I was so pissed I didn’t even tip and I always tip. The other comedians was Great, offensive in a FUNNY way and they had my gut hurting. I never sat in the main entrance room because the back was more appealing to my taste. They definitely got the traditional part down!!! Good Fast Friendly Bar Services. Very clean service as well. I will definitely go back.

Dive bar, watery beer on tap. I came here for a friend’s comedy act in the back room, which wasn’t bad. I’ve been to many dive bars before, and really I’m not going to knock this place for being what it is. BUT… The pros: Friendly hang-out spot, cheap drinks, and nice enough bartenders. The cons: Watered down drinks. Guinness on tap was the most watered down ale I’ve ever had. No hyperbole there! Yuck! The Jim Beam on the rocks I ordered next was poured into a glass literally overflowing with ice. Another watered-down catastrophe. Should have just ordered it neat. Won’t make that mistake again. I tipped the first time, but not for the second drink. Less H2O next time, please. So my rating is not for the décor, which was typical; nor for the service, which was … serviceable. This is for the drinks. Yes, they are cheap, but still expensive enough($ 6 and $ 8, respectively) to warrant better quality than this. Willing to give it a second chance, though, as I will be attending comedy shows here in the future. Will upgrade rating accordingly.

Have been here twice. Most recently on Halloween, and I feel compelled to write a review. We chose the bar as a meet up spot for the parade, bc it’s only a block away. Had to pay a $ 5 cover, which was the worst part of the experience, which still want too bad at all. The bartenders are so nice and quick. Beer selection is on point.(Love pumpkinhead) $ 24 a pitcher. I was able to get to the bar, get a pitcher and pay within 1 minute of basketball clock, on Halloween! Didn’t try any food, but there was seating in the back.

Awesome little dive bar! A friend of mine was visiting from Ohio and wanted to go hang out in the village. We were starving and had been walking all day. After being harassed by several of the comedy show hawkers on the block, we finally stumbled into this place because of the menu and cheap booze advertisements plastered all of the windows. This place is nothing short of your typical dive bar: dark lighting, duct-taped seats/booths and cheap booze. Happy hour deals were awesome – $ 2 Coors or Miller Drafts until 8pm and $ 5 Margaritas for the entire night. Nice little selection of dive bar food. Nothing too fancy or special about this place… my food order consisted of chili cheese nachos and jalapeño poppers… both were quite tasty and satisfying. Personally, I really enjoyed my experience here, but then again, I’m just a sucker for inexpensive dive bars with bar food. The reason I took away one star from my rating was due to the annoying comedian who kept pushing his free comedy show in the back room. He must have came over to our table about 5 times and asked us if we’d like to watch his show. Dude, we told you NO5 times… the FIRST time should have been enough! Other than that, it’s a fun, cheap place to visit if you’re in the neighborhood and not a fancy-pants.

Came here last night for a comedy show. $ 15. Random selection of comedians, overall all except one were really funny. Cheap drinks $ 5, wells. After the comedy show it turns into a karaōke club, which was random and really funny. Good times, good times.

Looks cute on the outside. Experience not so cute on the inside. First time I went our waitress got into a fist fight with a girl off the street right in the middle of the restaurant. I gave them a second chance because I had a Scoutmob deal. Why? I don’t know. They didn’t accept it my first time, and this time they were much less accommodating. Instead of simply employing«the customer is always right,» the server started trying to bargain with us, making up random prices in between what our 50% off deal said and what the menu said. We walked out and went next door.
