Absolute best cheeseburger and fries I have ever had in my entire life! If I could eat one meal only for the rest of my life, please let it be The Growler cheeseburger and fries! I have been coming to the Growler monthly for almost a year now. Every time it is the same: awesome! I sincerely appreciate the gentleman who serves during the week days. He remembers my order, which can be a little picky :) Thanks to the Growler for having not only amazing food, but a professional and consistently fabulous staff!

The Growler is a good, casual pub for basic drinks, beers and food. The food is better than what you would get at most other pubs in the area, but I think the food at Ulysses or The Dead Rabbit a few doors down is much better, in my opinion. But also, they’re pricier. This place is perfect for after-work drinks or a casual lunch during the week. But, not really a place I’d want to spend a Friday or Saturday night as FiDi is pretty dead on the weekends as it is. We ordered: Iced Tea– came out looking orange, which was really weird, but tasted good. Boston Lettuce Salad with Shrimp– pretty good, but nothing to write home about. Growler Burger on a Pretzel Bun– the burger is small, which I don’t mind cause the quality is good, but for those looking for a good sized burger will be disappointed. The New York Vintage Cheddar was really good as well, and I liked that it’s on a pretzel bun, which is a nice touch. Overall, this place is a solid pub for decent food and drinks, but like I said, mainly for after-work or for lunch.

Short menu but the beer selection was great and the food was delicious. The curried onion rings were a great start, I got a burger and it was one of the best I’ve had in a while, and my boyfriend got the French dip and loved it. It’s not a place for a quiet night, but it was worthwhile and I plan on returning

I had the lamb burger and one if the stouts on tap. The burger was very good, tender and juicy topped with cucumbers a yogurt sauce. Came with chips. Only thing is I wish it would have been bigger! I cleaned my plate which I almost never do, because I get full fast. Our server was efficient and friendly in a loud busy environment.

Bad service, weak beer selection, brunch was less than mediocre. I ordered the watermelon salad. It came on a bed of slimy iceberg lettuce. Underripe tomatoes. Inedible. Eggs Benedict was too salty and the poached egg was overcooked. No runny yolk.

Cool place to chill with an impressive selection of food and a variety of craft beers. Clean and warm with a relaxed lounge vibe, this is a great spot to hang out with a small group of friends. I had the French dip with au jus and ordered some«korean fries», which were freshly made fries with kimchi, bulgogi and sriracha mayo. Mmmm, so delicious. The portions were generous, though the prices matched the quality and portion size. Lighting was slightly dimmed for a relaxed vibe, with candles to provide table lighting. Music was at just the right level to allow conversation yet eliminate dead space and provide a fun positive setting. Wait staff were always within reach(came on a Wednesday night) and were courteous and attentive. There’s also a cocktail bar located below, which was even more cozy and chill with mood lighting and more privacy. A place to check out next time :)

Went here for a farewell lunch of a colleague of ours. the only thing to bring a little bit of joy in our lives on a rather rainy and depressing Tuesday, was the food and ambiance at the Growler! Pretty good selection of beer and we stuck with beer on a rather cold and rainy December afternoon. For lunch, my colleagues got the Beef Chili and Vegetarian Chili and I got the Turkey Burger. Food was excellent! The Turkey burger was really tasty although I am taking 1 star away just because the cranberry chutney isn’t that great and could definitely be replaced by a spicier sauce; and please please please start serving the burgers with some fries. this was the most disappointing part about my meal; who gives chips with a burger? Not cool! After I finished my burger, I noticed that my colleague hadn’t finished her beef chili so I attacked that dish and man — what an amazing flavor, that beef chili had. I then tasted the vegetarian chili too, and I was thoroughly confused as to which one tasted better! Both were equally delicious and by now, I had forgotten entirely about my Turkey burger! Definitely try out their Beef/Vegetarian Chili. Absolutely delicious! Service was good and our waitress was attentive.

I stopped in here on a late night and grabbed a pint of Guinness, fries, and the Salt & Pepper Wings. The food was good and the service was excellent. I’ll definitely be back!

Went here for a late dinner during a recent overnight stay in NYC for a friends’ birthday. It was in close proximity to our hotel and had a diverse menu which was very helpful, as we had a strict vegan in the group. We walked in as a party of 6 and were immediately seated. Huge assortment of specialty drinks, beers and food. Everything from matzoh ball soup to pork chili. Everything we ate was amazing! I was totally impressed. Two of us asked for a separate check and our request was accomodated easily. Prices were very reasonable by NYC standards. Service was fast and efficient. I saw that they do brunch as well as serve late night until 3am. Had no idea there’s also a downstairs bar attached, which sounds worth checking out. If I am ever in the financial district again, I’d definitely return here!

Best beer place in the financial. 20 beers on tap changed every weeks(?). A must and you can go to the Underdog.

We’ve been here a few times now, so I figure I have a solid review. Honestly the beer list drew us into the place. Numerous local beers plus some rarer breweries like pretty things and The Bruery. I love that all the beers are the same price! As far as food, I highly recommend the appetizers and share plates. Really love the fried pickles and all varieties of the fries. If you’re thinking of getting an entrée — meh. You’ll find a better burger/sandwich elsewhere for less. The service could really us some help. Staff is pleasant but you need to try hard to get their attention when you need something.

The food and drinks I have had at The Growler have been great. Food I’ve tried: –White chicken chili: really great. The chili was well seasoned and went so well with the jalapeño cornbread. I also loved their homemade potato chips and the various toppings for the chili(onions, cheese, etc.). Would definitely get this again, a perfect dish for a cool day. –Crispy pork belly sliders: I love pork belly so I enjoyed these. The brussels slaw that they were topped with was a nice addition, although I don’t like ginger and as a result was not crazy about the flavor of the slaw. Still, this is a pretty good dish. Not sure if it is a $ 15 dish, but you do get 5 sliders as well as some tasty homemade chips(plus everything in the area can be a bit pricier than it should be) –Spicy Peanuts: I like that they have a few different«bar bites» that you can order to munch on with your drink. These were pretty good although some were quite a bit burned. Good flavors though. Drinks have been pretty good too, and they have a nice beer and wine list as well. The cocktails don’t taste particularly strong but they are stronger than they appear. Cocktails are $ 11 – 12 on average; beer is about half that. Comparable to the places that are near them on Stone Street. Best food in Manhattan? Definitely not. But they have some interesting menu items, friendly service, and plenty of options regardless of what you prefer food and drink wise. Plus they are not crazy crowded like the other places on Stone Street. Not a place I would go out of my way to visit, but would definitely stop by if in the area.

My best friend introduced me to this place. Its a great bar. She’s been going here for years. The downstairs bar is the best. A hidden bar away from all the hustle and bustle of the tourists and the locals. Like a little speakeasy tucked away. Ive been here twice and its been great. The margaritas are amazing. They are strong and potent. Just what you need after a long day at work.

So it was a late night in the office and the other gals decided we needed food to get through the next few hours. They popped over to The Growler and brought me back the Growler Burger… For a grand total of $ 15* I got a 6oz kobe burger on a pretzel brioche bun with ‘vintage’ cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles and a side of fries. The burger was a little on the small side but packed some nice flavor. The pretzel bun was amazingly soft and delicious. The toppings, eh, were typical. The fries were completely forgettable — slim cut, soggy and lacked any flavor. It wasn’t the best meal I’ve had but it certainly wasn’t terrible either. We did get takeout so maybe that was to blame. Next time I think I’d try getting a table at the actual establishment, ordering it and enjoying it there. Stay tuned for a followup review… *Burger $ 11 + Cheese $ 1 + Fries $ 3

My favorite spot on Stone St. What I like about this place is it’s one of the least obnoxiously packed places on Stone St while still having an awesome drink selection and ample seating. They have a pretty solid tap selection, cocktails on tap, full bar, and good food. The Korean fries are certified dankness. I also like the music playing — Radiohead and similar bands. The basement is home to The Underdog — a speakeasy style cocktail lounge which is definitely worth checking out as well. This is my go-to spot for the area.

We had a large group and ordered a bunch of shared plates vs. entrees. To kick everything off, we got the Kobe Sliders with Cheddar & Pickles. They were so yummy! Cooked to the perfect medium/medium-rare temp. Sometimes I prefer sliders to one larger burger. This was one of those nights. I highly recommend it. Next up, the Korean Fries, loaded with bulgogi beef, kimchi and sriracha mayo. Hot damn, these were a show stopper! This appetizer requires a large group to share it! If you’re a fan of Korean ingredients, this is such a unique interpretation. Given all the rich appetizers we already ordered, why bother with a salad? We finished up with Bone Marrow served with relish and smoked sea salt. They were divine! After we finished this, I felt like we needed to be rolled out of The Growler! This is a great restaurant! If you make it here, make sure to visit Underdog, a cocktail bar located in the basement. I had to leave our dinner early, so I couldn’t check it out. Next time!

You can check out my review of the Underdog, the downstairs cocktail bar at the Growler, for the details of the incredibly unfriendly service we received. But the next move for our party was obvious — go up to the equally empty beer bar upstairs, right? They’d be more friendly, right? Nope. Is there something about this building that makes businesses not want to receive money? My girlfriend, stone cold sober, went to the bar to order a beer. The bartenders ignored her, then told her various beers were«out right now» in an obvious attempt not to serve. They eventually realized this was a bad strategy, so they finally gave her her third choice. Props for a decent beer list, and the Velvet Merlin they finally served her was quite good. But I’m flabbergasted. After about ten minutes, a guy wearing a Newsies cap and a mustache came over to tell everyone to leave, and behaved like a complete asshat in doing so, getting in ladies’ faces and raising his voice. I’m pretty self-aware, and I’d admit it if this was a group of my dumb drunkard friends where I’d understand if you wanted people to leave — these were sober lawyers there to have a couple drinks to say goodbye to someone, and the bar was empty. What’s the deal? You’re on a street filled with bars. Some of them are even decent. Don’t bother coming here.
