Redeemed some Levelup credit for their awful hummus sweets. Terrible product line-expansion decision by an otherwise-excellent chain.

The food here is great. Delicious and very reasonably priced, especially for the neighborhood. It’s become one of my go to lunch spots. One warning though. If you have celiacs, be wary of some of the items marked gluten free. A couple of item in particular have a very high possibility of cross contamination. The hummus serving spoon is used to spread the hummus on the pita and the brown rice almost always has some of the Mediterranean rice in it. That being said, if you go there to order and skip those items, there’s a relatively low instance of cross contamination.

A good stop for a quick healthy bite at a reasonable price. There’s a lot of choice — how much you want, how you want your protein, your sides, your sauces. It is a bit as if Chipotle had a brother-in-law from the Middle East. The hummus is a bit heavy on the garlic, but that’s a question of taste. When I’ve been there the tables are always clean, the staff has moved me thru the line quickly, and the pita is always fresh, airy, and chewy — perfect. Reliable, consistent, different, customizable, and good for you. For under $ 15 you can stuff yourself. Go for it.

The food is average and that’s all the good I have to say about this place. The staff was unhelpful and downright unpleasant. The cashier was the rudest person I met in New York City and that alone says something. The worst part is that she didn’t even noticed how rude she was, we were almost afraid to interrump her conversation with a staff friend when we wanted to pay.

When I stumbled inside The Hummus & Pita my first thought was, «Fast-casual Mediterranean?! Why didn’t I think of that?!» I was pretty excited to try«Middle Eastern Chipotle» and ordered a chicken shwarma pita for myself. Although this was better than fast food, it still didn’t impress me. The chicken was weirdly crunchy.(How does shwarma even get crunchy? It was weird and unsettling.) The pita didn’t seem very fresh, and the hummus was forgettable.(Not only that, but an extra dollar to get a flavor?!) I might come back here if I was in a rush and happened to pass by, but I definitely wouldn’t seek it out again.

Service was mediocre. I got a falafel Pita. They put the harissa right on the top in a dollop so concentrated all the spiciness in one spot. The pita on its own either was not that flavorful.

I had a crazing for chicken shawarma so I went to here and was surprised it was a chain and like most chain food, it’s ok but doesn’t have the same appeal as a mom and pop place. Overall it was pretty good, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to find one to eat there again. While in NYC you want real, mom and pop food. The seating was all bar stool style which is ok, but if you’re a heavier person or a person with a kid, it can be uncomfortable. Only one bathroom as well, which was an issue because of tof the employees was in there for 15 minutes, so I got tired of waiting and just left. Decent food, if you’re really hungry and nothing else is around.

Their food is so fresh! Hummus & Pita is a perfect place to get a great healthy meal on the go! A great portion size for the value, too. The hummus is super fresh and so tasty I usually can’t stop myself from eating all the hummus in one day even though they give you so much! Their sides are delicious especially the cabbage and eggplant(fried or grilled). Even the corn infused with dill is tasty. My husband likes their couscous. The chicken taboo is tasty, however, it can be dry sometimes and not juicy.

I was one of the first people to eat here the very first week they opened. It’s really very simple. I like the décor. I like the staff. I like the hummus. I’ve tried hummus at a few different places and this one is closer to my very favorite hummus. At $ 10 while a bit pricey, still inexpensive for the area. And the location is spot on as it’s located next to my train. Good all around.

After managing multiple Mediterranean/Israeli food restaurants in NYC, I can easily say that there are much better places than The Hummus & Pita Co in the city. Today was my first time eating here. The place is very clean and there is decent available seating during the lunch rush madness. The employees were not particularly friendly and did not explain my options well. I ordered a laffa wrap with regular hummus, chicken shawarma, Israeli couscous, and tabouli. The laffa wrap was very stale and hard to bite into. The chicken shawarma had a strong char-like tasted that just didn’t taste right. The Israeli couscous was Israeli couscous, no seasoning or particular taste, and the tabouli had too many onions. Most importantly, the hummus was terrible. I thought maybe that it had even gone bad for a minute. The texture of it was slightly too soupy. There was an absence of salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, or anything that would give it flavor. Worst of all, it was absolutely loaded with garlic. I only ate half of my laffa wrap(an extra star because it was a decent size for the price), but the food definitely upset my stomach. It did not taste completely fresh. I will not be going back here after this experience. However, there are many other alternatives in this area. I highly recommend GRK Fresh Greek for a flavorful chicken shawarma sandwich.

This is heavy doc! If you don’t get that line, I’m disappointed. Anyways, point of this is no matter what you order, you walk out with 2 pounds of food for about $ 10. It’s all excellent when you have a middle eastern craving. The chicken schwarma hits the spot with greasy, fatty, chicken thigh goodness. The lamb gyro is solid as well, but mostly the same as what you can get from a cart. The side veggies and hummus are all really, really good. Just be warned, if you order the laffa, it is stuffed so full that is it damn near impossible to eat without a fork or a stain on your lap.

just went for lunch, falafel was not too bad, crisp and flavorful but a bit salty, hummus was ok, a bit on the heavy side. I just didn’t like the red cabbage at all, flavorless and still has the bitterness. prob won’t go again.

Walked in at around 7:30pm on a Wednesday and I was the only customer. All the staff was busy preparing for a group takeout order and nobody acknowledged me. I got a bowl with regular hummus + steak + moroccan beans + carrots + all the free toppings + tahini + whole wheat pita. It was a lot of food. They had gyro and chicken on spit grills and shawarma and steak were sitting in bins. The steak tasted a bit old and dry, but all the sides were absolutely delicious. I must warn you that the harissa and shug here are ridiculously spicy. It’s the level of spicy that makes me feel opiate and turns the entire world into a haze. I honestly wish they tone the spice level down a little, but it was probably my fault that I asked for heaping scoops of both. I am only giving this joint 4 stars because of the generous portion. I don’t think H&P Co. trains its staff to scoop out consistent amount of food as Chipotle does. As a result you usually get more food than you may expect, which is a great thing. Service is neither rude nor friendly but simply nonchalant. The staff can get impatient if you take too long to make decisions. Just ignore their stare and take your time. There are takeout menus at the door.

I’ve ordered from here a few times for lunch, getting bowls both times. The food is alright – decent vegetables and meat. Despite its name, the hummus is actually probably the most lacking part of the meal(I’ve tried plain and spinach, both were pretty tasteless tbh). Be careful ordering from here, however. I ordered off seamless at around 10:30 for delivery at 11:45. At around 12:45(an hour late), I called up the store only to be told«it’s on its way» with no apology or explanation. The food arrived around 1pm, cold. I wouldn’t recommend.

This place is just fine for a quick bite, but I’m not convinced by all the reviews of «best falafel ever.» Don’t get me wrong… it’s good — nice and crispy without being too dry. Just not the best flavors that I’ve ever had, which is fine. It does its job, and it’s worth the $ 6 I spent on it(which I mean, one of the cheaper options in this area, so can’t complain). As other reviewers have mentioned, it’s kind of a Chipotle-style counter service place where you walk down and have different stations put different things on your order. Fine, but if you don’t know what you want, it’s a little stressful(and since it was my first time there, I definitely got stressed out). I ended up getting a falafel in pita with hummus, olives, Israeli couscous, and tzatziki sauce. Quite good, quite messy, kind of wish I hadn’t panicked and chosen the Israeli couscous… I think I would have liked to try the baba ganoush. The couscous was a little too carb-heavy for me in the pita. I’d definitely come back, but I wouldn’t rush over here.

Absolutely love this place! Glad they have wheat pita options. I work in the area so occasionally pick up lunch here(they charge for delivery). I usually get a falafel bowl. My favorite fill its are the baba ganoosh and the spanish eggplant. Their meat options are also good but the falafel is decent and filling enough… the price is right and the bowl is MORE than enough food!

In regards to my initial review, I have to change my rating to a four star after eating falafel at a few other places in Manhattan. Hummus and Pita is still awesome, falafel is amazing and all the side dishes are delicious. However, given that I’ve recently had falafel that surpassed Hummus and Pita and quite possibly was the best of my life, I have to honestly change my rating here to a 4. H&P is still my go to though!
