Great place to bring your unwanted items for a tax deduction! People are always purchasing here, crazy busy! Highly recommend!

super nice owner — what a doll asked for directions and feel like I met a friend — he gave me great restaurant suggestions.

Very helpful depending on what you want. I came in looking for vintage postcards, casette tapes, and buttons/pins, found a plethora of all. They also have a lot of playbills for old musicals or unknown ones, and other weird and mixed assortment of items. Better to go with less of an idea to buy, and more to explore and see. The pricing is definitely not deserving of two $$ signs, but prices you’d expect from items passed down and used. I bought a vintage, Polish postcard for $ 1 and another vintage photo for $ 1 and a button for a $ 2. While it’s small, they use the space well and try to use every nook and cranny to fill with items. And the service was nice and friendly, but I wouldn’t blame on them for having little knowledge about the things they have considering it’s a thrift shop and is filled with a variety of items they cannot possibly know all the history and knowledge of.

This wonderful little shop is always good for finding a treasure or two — during our first visit in 2015 — found a copy of Pam Keogh’s wonderful«What Would Audrey Do» about the grace and style of Audrey Hepburn. Nice selection of books, collectibles and tchotkies, friendly service and very reasonable prices. Worth a look if you love rummaging for flea market treasures!

Over the years I have visited dozens of times. There is never any pressure to purchase, and the shopkeepers are very knowledgable and helpful. I’ve found fantastically unique gifts at bargain basement prices. I’ve had watches fixed, batteries replaced, even sold a few things myself! Lots of things to look through if you’ve got the time and the bargain hunter spirit.

This place is extremely convenient to my office, so I find myself stopping by often for jewelry repair or to buy a gift for a friend. I’ve found some great gifts here: a hobnail milk-glass ashtray and lighter set, and an adorable set of demitasse spoons! The inventory is mostly ceramics, vintage knick-knacks, odd books, and jewelry. I personally haven’t found much of the jewelry to be interesting to me. I’ve also had my engagement ring repaired here and a watch band made shorter. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. They’re eager to help you find something you like. The repairs were also extremely fast.

Not many options and a bit cramped. The people seemed nice but were not particularly helpful.

This place has some great finds including a beautiful vintage pearl ring and necklace my boyfriend bought me. I loved them, but the ring was delicate and I got it caught while making the bed and the whole ring busted in half! The clasp on my necklace also broke. Thinking that since they were both purchased at the store, that they’d fix them since both pieces were bought only 4 months prior and I still had my receipts. So the owner said it was no problem. I left them for a week and went on vacation. I came back to pick them up and when they took the ring out, sure enough they made it whole again but it wasn’t even round anymore — it was now an oval shaped ring and it was half a size smaller than when I brought it in! So they took it back to «resize.» I came back a few days later and the ring was now round but it had big uneven chunks all over. So they took it back AGAIN to polish off the uneven pieces. At this point the receipt said $ 25 since they had to add gold to repair the ring. I was fine with this. Then when I came back again and the ring wasn’t done. This is now 3 weeks for a simple repair and it still wasn’t right. Finally they called me to say it was actually done. I went and picked them up and the receipt now said $ 50AND the ring still has dings in it! The owner of the store argued with me that it wasn’t a size 7 when it came in — which it was and was actually noted on my original receipt btw because my boyfriend paid to have it sized when he bought it. The owner also told me the dings were nothing he could fix. And that the added gold was the extra cost. I told him the $ 25 on the first part of the receipt was for the added gold. Where did the extra $ 25 come from? He wouldn’t give me a real answer. Needless to say, this was a ridiculous situation. First they try to give it back to me a mess– a lopsided, not round ring with dings all over it costing $ 25, then to size it back to what it was originally, another $ 25(apparently for gold that was already added the first time around), and it still has dings in it. And 3 weeks worth of run around. So disappointed in the service. Ultimately, the repairs cost half the price of the ring to begin with and 3 weeks worth of bullshit. I feel completely ripped off.

Adorable place that packs a punch. Book lovers and jewelry seekers will enjoy browsing this place. They also have a lot of tea ware and vases and old postcards. No apparel or furniture. The people are nice and friendly. This is a place where you would find something to brag about! Diamond in the rough… diamond in the rough.

Never take any jewelry to be repaired at this shop! the pearl ring i had repaired popped out of setting twice and when I had a diamond replacd in one ring and that fell out I was told it was probably not the diamond they had replace! I took it to another jeweler and indeed it was since they had replaced it with a zirconia and the other diamonds were real! I have been going to that shop for years to shop and for repairs but I will never again return. THe owner blamed their jeweler! But would not repair my ring free of cost!

Don’t be fooled by the exterior, go on step inside. Despite it’s name, signage, and window display Thrift & New is really a gem in Hell’s Kitchen. I absolutely adore their vintage jewelry. Pricing is great and depending on how slow the day is going, they will negotiate with you. Stop in to check out a small section of books, large section of gold an silver jewelry(separated by gem stone) and other kitschy nick-knacks.

If you know me, you know I love thrift shops, but I’ve been to this one twice now and haven’t bought anything either time, so I can’t give it more than 3 stars. It does fairly earn its 3 stars with its old-time, genuine atmosphere, though. This place has been here forever, and it shows. If you are in the market for a ceramic vase, however, this is your place. There are hundreds of them here, all neatly organized on shelves by style and color. If you are a collector, you might very well have a heart attack and die on the spot just from vase overload. They’ve also got some old costume jewelry, various other knick-knacks, and a bunch of old books(mostly very random, out-of-date but not interestingly antique, and boring-to-me, sadly.) It is more-than-likely that I will keep popping my head in here though, because it just seems inevitable that one of these days there will be that treasure here that I won’t be able to comprehend how I lived without it…

Honestly, I lived in HK for three years and never ever thought to go in here. It looks like a hoarders dream from the outside and I was always kind of intimidated. But I was out hunting for a couple of thrifted items and this was my first stop. I was impressed to see how organized it is on the inside. All the glass and ceramic vessels are categorized by color, and all the cookware is grouped together in the back. I had a fun time looking through, but don’t think I actually bought anything. The prices are reasonable, though, and I’m sure it won’t take me another 3 years to go back.

Having been around for 55 years, this store has seen Hell’s Kitchen during its most glorious and inglorious days, the storeowner says. And judging from the antiques and other stuff they sell, which range from vintage guitars to elephant lamp complete with tusks to black and white photos of rabbis, I don’t doubt that at all. Their impressive collection of jewelry also probably dates back to decades before you and I were born. However, the best part of this store is two-fold: price and customer appreciation like you have never experienced it before. I just moved into the neighborhood from the East Village, and in the 3 years I have lived in New York, never have I felt more welcomed than by the elderlies in this store.(Sorry, East Village, still love you though!) Yes, some old people are mean, bitter, and scolding, but those who enter this store is just the opposite. Plus, if you ever want a nice chat and free wine(when I was there, they handed a plastic glass to everyone who comes in), go in the store a little after 6PM! They love having company, as I have already learned more than once. Ask the old dude named Mike about his time in Woodstock ’69, but make sure you have at least 30 minutes to spare.

every square inch of this store is filled by stuff. all you need to do is look. be aware of the narrow pathways: appropriate for skinny customers only. amazing collection of vases and jewelries($ 9.95/ea for all vintage ones), and a million other random things from playbills, cooking pans, jesus portraits, to the $ 29.95 green marble+brass art deco peacock ashtray and the $ 45 antique-looking bronze monkey with both hands up-a pen holder, which i almost bought and bought. every single shopper at Thrift & New was white haired, for once i thought old people had such good taste.
