My mum didn’t like it, taste a little bland and too sour for her… Would rather go to Candle 79 next time…

I have now been here three times and can officially say, this place is wonderful. Great vegan food at decent prices is something to celebrate! Everything I’ve had has been so good, and the people I’ve gone with have also loved their meals. I recommend their burrito for lunch and their eggs Benedict for brunch, you will not be disappointed by the generous proportions. They also have an adorable fondue set up that you can get for desert that was a great way to top off a meal. Even if you’re not vegan, this is a must try gem on the east side with a great staff.

Love !!! Recommend the crab cake appetizer and calamari rings. So delicious — perfect to share. Solid wine and beer menu. Live music most nights. Bar area is tight. Make a reservation and get a table.

Second time here and it still is delicious. There is a low key casual elegance to the place that allows you to feel you are at a special gathering while still being laid back. The dishes are rich and designed to delight the eye as well as the palate and I’d venture to say the body as well. I come here with my discerning daughters and they approved so I’m happy to return again. Pricey but all vegan food tends to be. Do not skip dessert!

Fantastic. I chose VNote for my birthday dinner and couldn’t be happier. I had the black eyed pea cake and it was the star of the night. I’d suggest for anyone to order it. The horseradish sauce is phenomenal and adds the tang needed to balance the cake. The lentil rings were also ordered and were tasty, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce on bottom. I think the rings could stand alone because they had such a good flavor. For our entrees, I had the risotto and the person I was with ordered the BBQ tempeh. The risotto was good, I think the sauce could use some sort of citrus to lighten it up bc I found it to be a little heavy and almost too rich in flavor. The tempeh was delicious. The person I went with isn’t a vegan and has never had tempeh and was completely in love with the dish so that is a HUGE win in my book for VNote. Thanks for the great experience VNote!

After enjoying Free Fridays at Neue Galerie, we made the leisurely stroll over for rezzies at V-Note for dinner… you’ll want to be sure to grab reservations as well — as the place was packed In keeping w/the Austrian theme of the evening, I chose a lovely Austrian wine & it was the perfect blend of full-bodied & floral /fruity. The Mr chose a Rioja & loved his deep-cherry & dry tones. Started with the Lentil Cakes and Mushroom«calamari» The lentil cakes had a lovely depth of flavor & the fried mushroom rings were a whimsical concept on calamari My mistake for the evening, was not asking the server for entrée recommendations, as I chose very poorly. Spring Pea Risotto was bland, had no peas, or fiddlehead ferns(as was advertised) but it did have an overabundance of fennel. WAY too much licorice flavor. I left over half of my dish & they wisely didn’t offer to wrap up the remainder, when my plate was cleared. They must have known… The Mr on the other hand did choose wisely — he opted for the Cordon Bleu & it was an amazing dish of breaded-tofu-wrapping a core of cashew cheese with a mountain of truffled mashed potatoes. It was so delish & were we to come back, this would be my dish of choice! Our waiter abandoned us after our mains were delivered & probably came back after 1 hr to check on us — but by that time, our desire for another glass of wine had passed & we also decided on sharing 1 dessert instead of each getting our own — way too full by that point, since everything had had an opportunity to «settle in» Chocolate Peanut-butter Cake — decent but the PB was too thick & overpowered the chocolate mousse. Didn’t finish it which for me is saying something as I have a notorious reputation for copious sugar consumption So we might be willing to come back but with the number of other vegan options to visit, we would probably look elsewhere first

It’s hard for me to discount any restaurant that caters for us vegans, because they are so few and far between. I won’t say this wasn’t good, but it’s no Candle 79… Ordered for pick up(and I’ll concede that takeout vegan probably takes a small toll on food quality, even if the commute is 14 mins tops). The large vegan Caesar was $ 15. Though the romaine was fresh, the chicken substitute was tasty and the croutons were good, the flavor didn’t blow my mind. I’ve made better vegan Caesar at home. The capers were a nice touch. But the $ 15 price tag was a bit excessive. The Creamy Citrus Gnocchi was $ 20. The gnocchi was very doughy. The sauce was very oily and any trace of citrus was apparently lost on me. The greens beneath and snow peas were really amazing. But the sundried tomatoes were raw and acidic. You have to marinate them in olive oil and vinegar, as well as salt, before you cook with them. Otherwise they are just chewy, sour and obtrusive. Rookie mistake. Seitan Cordon Bleu — the mash was tasty. The Seitan was good, but anorexic Seitan with a smidgen of cheese isn’t quite Cordon Bleu. The title misleads. I’m sad to see the place quite empty on a Wednesday and I think the food has redeeming qualities. But $ 60+ for a salad and 2 entrees probably prohibits return. I paid $ 400+ for a sit down at Candle(lots of wine included) and don’t regret a penny spent.

My boyfriend and I went to v-note with a groupon and had one of the best meals we have had in a long time! We got the Cesar salad, tofu«salmon» and seitan cordon bleu, and milkshakes for dessert. We also got a pleasant wine. We loved EVERYTHING! The service was excellent too. I have been to vnote in the past but it has been a while and this was better than I remember it. I think they must have made some changes and I am glad they did. We will be back for sure. My one and only minor criticism is that I wish they would not call the tofu dish«salmon». It’s amazing, but it’s not like salmon. Just call it beet marinated tofu. It’s delicious. Own it.

I was at a friend’s house and he suggested we order in from this place. It was a great experience. The delivery was fast and the food was great. Started with the black eyed pea cake – amazing – and the beet salad, very good. I had the BBQ tempeh which was fabulous and my friend had the shortcake. He ate it all, which probably means something good. Haven’t been in the restaurant, but delivery was quality.

Clean modern restaurant with comfortable seating. The price is a little high and the portions on the small side at times but mostly tasty. Our first choice– the large wilted spinach salad. It wasn’t a warm wilted salad as described but still tasted pretty good except for the random French fries found in it. Pointed this out to our waiter who was surprised and said he’d talk to the kitchen but than never said anything else. We even joked about it to him but he never offered a plausible explanation. They made us weary on the conditions of the kitchen and staff. I also think the size was too small for the $ 15 price. Next we had 2 eggplant appetizers that as other Unilocalers have commented were really good. You can’t tell it’s vegan. Overall liked the flavor a of the tofu cakes and the eggplant is worth ordering.

I’m pleasantly surprised that there’s such a good vegetarian place near where I live, after trekking up and down the UWS and the East Village. I would advise anyone who’s waiting for a seat at a Uva or Sarabeth’s to give V-Note a shot: you’ll get soy sausage instead of turkey or pork sausage, tempeh bacon instead of real bacon, and a tofu scramble instead of a real omelet, but my friends and I were pleased with the meat-less offerings. At least the mighty sweet potato is still vegan. At the last minute, I decided to go for the sweet potato fries instead of the mixed greens(my version of Sunday Funday): they came out decidedly soggy. I still ate all of them. I suppose the bright side is that maybe they were healthier than your average deep-fried tuber but some parts of the sweet potato fries tasted even … raw-crunchy. I loved the tofu scramble, even though it was really salty, but I did not like the soy sausage. The first reaction was, «this tastes just like pork,» but the aftertaste lacked the gamey, garlic chew. Overall, a hearty breakfast that kept me full but not uncomfortably stuffed for the next few hours, but not in a rush to order again. NEXTTIME: French toast, lasagna, market veggie quesedilla, any of the desserts.

Vegan & organic gem on UES. Amazing selection on the menu with unique flavor profiles. Friendly service, lovely intimate décor, and great date spot. I ordered the Vibrancy juice(pineapple, ginger, lemon, apple) and the Butterfinger smoothie — a TOTAL gamechanger when it comes to vegan smoothies and definitely one of the best I’ve had in NYC. The tofu scramble with organic spinach and vegan sausage was muy delicioso — you can opt for salad, fries, or sweet potato fries. My recommendation is to ask for the homemade salsa verde — definitely gives your taste buds a nice kick. Bottom line: V-Note is a worthy contender as one of the best vegan restaurants in Manhattan. I’m looking forward to trying every other dish on the menu!

The food was okay, but the manager’s attitude was terrible… we came here with a groupon deal and the waitress did not mention anything about the groupon deal, but said that she will redeem it later when we get the bill. When we got the bill and she marked our groupon deal as redeemed, later on, she came back and said that we were not allowed to use the deal because it was for four people not two. Why didn’t the manager or waitress clarify about it before ordering any foods?(Other restaurants usually will introduce about the groupon deal when they have some special limitations or whatever) The manager did offer us to come back again with four people and redeem the groupon deal again(Again, it was marked as redeemed), but I didn’t think that I will come back within two weeks again because the groupon was going to expire soon. We were stunned when he was out of patience and said that he will only deduct $ 30 and walked away right away. So, we were forced to pay the amount which the manager manually deducted only $ 30 from our bill(we bought and paid for a $ 60 groupon deal.) because we only had two people. We paid it because we were not awful as him. We were just customers who wanted to enjoy our foods on weekend, but were fed up with this manager…

I got delivery from here. Ordered 2 Cesar salads. At first i was throw off by the price for vegetarian cesar($ 15) — but I assumed or hoped it would be amazing and worth it. I was completely wrong. It was actually not a good salad what-so-ever. It was basically lettuce with a few croutons and what seemed like frozen imitation chicken you could buy from the grocery store. There were some basic capers thrown in– maybe 5 total and a bland flavorless dressing. The fact that i paid $ 15 for that is just wrong. I will not go back.

Upscale vegan wine bar that serves up amazing food. Everything was delicious. We had the mushroom calimari fra diavlo, the seitan schnitzel, mushroom scallops, and the drunken fruit parfait! Totally satisfied. Very classy place! Great service.

The atmosphere on a freezing cold Saturday afternoon was perfect. We got here at 5(early for or reservation) and Gretchen got us a great booth after a brief wait at the bar. The people were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about this vegan gem. We had 4 appetizers, 3 entrees and 2 desserts. The standouts were the lentil rolls, the schnitzel the gnocchi and the beet ravioli. The coffee is excellent and the organic beers are too! Enjoy.

I had a very pleasant experience here. We had a really nice waiter who made the perfect recommendations for us. Everything he recommended was just as good as he described it. I highly recommend the beet ravioli, the eggplant parm and the gnocchi appetizer. I was hesitant about the beet ravioli because I’m not a fan of beets. However, the waiter convinced me that I will still love the beet ravioli and he was right… they were delicious. Another favorite part for my dinner was the wine! The Grayson Cabernet wine was smooth and full of flavor.

This place is a really great vegan restaurant, even for non-vegans. I usually order the cheeseburger, and it is only available for lunch and deliveries, not dinner. My sister had the eggplant lasagna, and as someone who doesn’t care for eggplants, I had a bite and thought it was quite good. The restaurant was really nice about accommodating my mom’s dietary needs and made her the vegetable medley all steamed with no oil or salt. The desserts are great, especially the fondue. I highly recommend sharing it with a friend since there is quite a lot of fruits to dip. It is a classy, romantic place and the price reflects the quality of food. Great for special occasions or a night out to treat yourself.

I finally managed to get to V-Note – the last of UES vegan restaurants I needed to hit. I’d rate it a 3.5, but always round up for healthy options… Pros: 1. The interior is really nice. Between the wood-slatted ceiling, black walls and white booths, it gives good ambiance! 2. Service was fine. Our server checked in on us with appropriate frequency, and our food came out quickly, too. 3. The food is pretty good – I wouldn’t say it’s as good as Candle or Pure, but good nonetheless. We got the beet salad to start, which was your typical beet salad. And for our entrees, we opted for the BBQ tempeh dish and the pistachio/pepper dusted tofu. Both were good – not amazing – not terrible – just good. I thought the tempeh was bathed a bit too enthusiastically in BBQ sauce(nothing too creative here). The tofu dish was more visually appealing and perhaps a bit more creative where flavors/ingredients are concerned. Neither portion was huge. In fact, I would say both were smaller than what you would get at Candle or Pure for the same price. Cons: 1. Their gluten free options aren’t optimal. Most of the starters Unilocalers rave about are not GF-friendly. Moreover, the GF dessert option(yes, option, as in there’s only one) is really disappointing. A parfait? Really? I eat parfaits for breakfast. If V-Note wants to compete with other high end vegan restaurants in NYC, they’ll need to do better than a GF parfait for dessert. I was so unenthused with that idea, that I opted to leave and get dessert at Candle instead. So… the verdict… will I go back? If I had another Groupon to use, sure. Otherwise, I’ll stick with my other faves.

We came here to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. There were 15 of us and I came with doubt as I never went to a vegetarian restaurant before. Have to say that this place is definitely not for meat lovers. Had the sweet potato gnocchi and it was ok sauce was good but the gnocchi was tasteless. Then I had the peppercorn medallions and they had a weird taste ate only the noddles which tasted like a ramen soup for the microwave and didn’t like the Seitan at all as it tasted like rubber. The only light in the dinner(food wise) came from the dessert we had the chocolate fondant and the 3 flavor sorbet. They both were great! Very tasty and worth the wait! Overall if my cousin wasn’t vegan I would probably never have stepped into this place but now after tasting the food i would probably won’t do it again.
