The guys that run this place are lazy. If they don’t personally use the equipment it’s left in useless condition. Case in point, after 5 weeks of kindly asking for the slide board to be cleaned and to have many missing parts replaced to make it SAFE to use I stopped wasting my money on this dump. Go elsewhere.
PS I don’t want to see the people who run the gym do their personal workouts. I want to see them run their gym well.

I recently began attempting a small group class here on weekends. Velocity is not your typical gym. You don’t sign up monthly and join legions of others on treadmills and stairmasters. Instead, the space is designed for small group or individual training, with small stations and a limited number at that. This may sound like a negative, but it’s actually a positive. You’ll see a range of equipment and workout space you normally wouldn’t see in a gym. For instance, there are lanes laid out on one section of the gym that run the length of the building. Running or pushing weight sleds across those lanes makes my heart want to jump out of my chest. It’s awesome!
Another section has free weights, and a fantastic sign telling people just to lift weights there and not set up an entire circuit and block the area off. I wish more gyms did this! Another section has Pilates equipment while yet another section is wide open for anything from ladder to box training. In the middle area is a deadlift station complete with a basket of chalk powder. There are even ropes to climb! Since this gym is in a higher floor of a building you do have to be mindful of other tenants, but on weekends that becomes less of an issue.
There are locker and shower facilities, but the men’s locker room is a bit cramped with only one shower stall that I could see. This is the only «ding» I would hold against this place, because otherwise it’s a fantastic workout space!

great local gym for those who are serious about working out. this is not a place to come for cardio, although they do have one treadmill and some spin bikes. The equipment is excellent and well kept. Not your average «sports club» You will find olympic-​style equipment like kettle bells (heavy weight), heavy dumbbells, chains, lifting platform, hex bar, axle bar, sleds, sprint track, two squat rack, etc, etc. They even have some Pilates equipment and TRX straps. You need a personal trainer to enter and workout here. For those without a trainer, they have some on site and also offer classes you can register for. THERE IS A FREE FITNESS CLASS OFFER WHEN YOU CHECK IN ON Unilocal!!. This gym has no frills — don’t expect Kiehl’s products or eucalyptus towels — just a regular old gym to work up a sweat. Serious athletes train here, but also some regular folks who are serious about weight training. There are even some child athletes that work out here regularly. The men’s bathroom/​locker room is tiny, but serves it’s purpose. There are two showers — shampoo, soap, conditioner, towel provided. I’ve never seen the women’s locker room so can’t speak to that.

i meet my trainer here sometimes (i’m not a member). it’s not a place to come to run on the treadmill. it can be «intimidating» sometimes because some people in there seem pretty hardcore and their website makes it sound like only super-​athletes go there. they have free weights and some less common items they have there are weighted vests, the hex bar, gymnasty rings, a short track, water-​weighted pvc pipe, good jump ropes… there are a bunch of tumble mats too. often when i’m there i hear big buff men doing exercises weighted with chains so it sounds extra difficult with all the clanging. once i saw a client that was running around with his trainer on his back. i think they might be getting a rower (?) but they didn’t have one last time i was there. their box jump boxes are heavy and you can hurt yourself carrying them or even jumping wrong on them cuz they have sharp edges. it’s refreshing to come here because it’s nice and open. and you can make the workers across the street at bloomberg feel guilty for not exercising as you hard as you are. locker rooms are pretty basic but does have a shower.
