This place is a little gem. The sandwiches are constructed by artisans using fabulous gourmet delicacies. Unique dressings are suggested and should be strongly considered. The BLT is really really good. The roast beef is homemade and nice and rare. They have lots of great soups, homemade side dishes, and deserts. If you are a fan of the finer things and know that killer food cost a little more, Then this is a spot for you.

An appealing little store with food that looks tasty. It seems that none of the prepared items are marked with prices, at least none of the ones I purchased. I bought three items. The counter man told me «$ 50 even», after I suppose adding it up in his head, or perhaps he had a small calculator behind the counter. I paid in cash, and wasn’t offered a receipt. Personally, I prefer to know how much an item is going to cost, and to be offered a receipt after the purchase is rung up on a register. Other than the receipt and pricing concern, I enjoyed visiting William Poll.

It was a hot summer day and I walked about 30 blocks. Looked at Unilocal and saw this place had good reviews. This places doesn’t look like much, it’s small, has prepared foods and dips you can try. Which I will tell you now, those dips are delicious and if I was going home I would have bought them in an instant. The gentleman helped me out which sandwich to buy and even let me try the chicken salad beforehand. He mentioned that the bread they used is sliced thin. I guess this must be an issue with other customers but since I like a more meat to bread ratio this was great! Anyhow I am enjoying m chicken salad, bacon, and watercress sandwich. Yum.

Went with my friend for a couple of sandwiches after basketball practice. They had no sandwich rolls, just rye bread. That’s fine, but it was the smallest sandwich I have ever had. To top it all off we got two waters. The total price was $ 30! To be fair, it is good, but the price is ridiculous! Never go unless you win the lottery.

I tried the chicken salad and bacon sandwich today and thought it was delicious! I was slightly disappointed that the deli did not have any seating, but you can find somewhere to eat nearby. I was also disappointed that the bread they use was probably just some store brought bread. I was hoping it would be a little more sophisticated than that. But overall, I would eat there again. It was about $ 10.00 for my sandwich, the size of a normal slice of bread, but worth it!

Nice sandwich! More of a take out or prep foods place. Wish they had 2 little tables to eat but that’s not their focus. Nice old school deli vibe but definitely not an eat-in place. Had the proscuttio and watercress dip. Mmmmmmmm!

I never thought a sandwich wrapped in tin foil could be elegant, but these hit that nail on the head. In particular the egg salad, bacon, and watercress are a hit!

William Poll is an upper east side treasure, one of the last remaining examples of unfancy, classic food prepared with care to a very high standard. A firm tasty potato, sliced into ovals not too thick not too thin, fried to a dark beautiful not-greasy crispness and given a shake of salt. It’s ordinary in some sense, but at the same time, perfection! Or their Pollonnaise dressing — a simple but wonderfully balanced combination of mayonnaise and sour cream that manages to be both richer and lighter than either one alone. Again, not flashy, straightforward, but perfect. I hope they will always keep making their fresh, delicate, satisfying American foods.

I had the club on wheat here and it was one of the best ever. $ 13 is the only reason i left off the 5th star. Usually I feel ripped off buying a club because anyone can make a club at home, but something was different about this club, and they priced it as such.

This review is mainly about the customer service but also about their brownie. I recently moved to the UES and live down the street from William Poll. I’m always walking by but usually never have time to stop in but this weekend I made it a point to go inside. I was really impressed with the prepared food selection they have in the refrigerators, as well as their deli counter. It was pretty busy when I walked and the owner(or owner’s son) was busy tending to customers. After I spent a few minutes browsing the selections I was on my way out the door and the owner James greeted me. I told him I just moved to the area recently and he immediately welcomed me with a hug, kiss on the cheek and introduced himself. He told me about the store and how they offer catering services, etc. and then asked if I liked sweets. When I said yes he said I must have a brownie made from his mother’s recipe and gave it to me as a gift. I had just come from brunch and wasn’t the slightest bit hungry but took it graciously and thanked him. The next day I finally got around to eating it and all I can say is WOW! I’m totally addicted now. The flavor is not too rich and has the perfect amount of sweetness. I also love that it has nuts and isn’t gooey. I’m looking forward to trying other food selections to get a more well rounded idea of their quality but for now I am so pleased to have such friendly neighbors. I truly appreciate James taking time to talk to me amongst the busy crowd and making me feel welcome to the area!

Super cool place. Great sandwiches. Thin sliced bread and unique combos. Has all the really near old school snacks and candies for sale we all saw in the 70s and 80s. No place to sit but great foods.

I ordered from William Poll for my boss for a lunch meeting because all the reviews were so great. Well, he liked the food but said the sandwiches were«TINY». Uhhh… okay? I wish I would have known the food came in size«tiny».lol I’m sure the food is good but to hear that the sandwiches were tiny was disappointing to say the least.

Well, I can’t say enough good things about this place. Wow, it is a NY deli run by the friendliest Greek family, so very nice. They have incredible gourmet food and catering menus, to include a gourmet version of pigs in a blanket. Who doesn’t like pigs in a blanket? No one, that’s who. Well, maybe vegetarians. I read about William Poll on the Kate Spade blog and stopped in while I was in the neighborhood and was immediately greeted by James as I walked in the door. He showed me around, made sure I tasted some of the incredible dips and baked potato thins(his mother, Christine’s, recipe). I got to see the kitchen and meet the super friendly staff and got to talking to James and found out that we used to live a few streets down from each other in upstate NY. I ordered a watercress, Brie and turkey sandwich on rye, and James threw in some delicious lemon meringues too :) Great store, I will come back any time I need a snack and I’m in the UES! I will certainly make the trip from other spots in Manhattan for the catering services, the food looked incredible!

In it was probably 1979, my mom’s best friend brought a whiff of Glamorous New York to her modest at-home wedding reception with catering by William Poll. There was something about knowing that we were eating the same delicious hors d’oeuvres that might sustain a party attended by Liza Minelli or Andy Warhol that elevated what would have otherwise been a rather modest affair into something exclusive and exciting. The $ 50 I spent on two boxes of frozen delicacies this New Year’s Eve did the same for our private Champagne-and-nosh before walking down to the Brooklyn fireworks. The little bacon-and-leek lPapillotes had a shockingly bacony filling, a serious plus for this bacon lover and the mini crab quiches were equally lavishly filled with tender seafood.

A little small speciality food shop. Came by during lunch to grab a corn beef sandwich and it was eh… It was disgusting but it wasn’t great either.

After having a a beer(or 4) we ran across this little shop. They sold cookies, soup, popcorn… all the little items you think you NEED when your tipsy walking through New York! The staff was So nice, he asked what everyones name was and even came around the counter and hugged us… AWWW sweet. As I was walking up and down the aisle trying to figure out a snack for the subway trip back to our hotel the owner was giving me samples of all different tips of cookies and dips. THANKS! I decided to get the chocolate/caramel covered popcorn… omg this is probably the BEST popcorn I’ve ever had, I did not look at the price before I bought it(my rule for the trip) and it cost $ 22.Even knowing the price now I would so go back and buy it again… it was that good!

Purveyors of gourmet food since 1921, you’d be hard pressed to find better sandwiches on the Upper East Side. While the sandwiches don’t come cheap at W.M. Poll, for $ 10 bucks you can get a solid turkey club. The turkey is fresh, not Boars Head or some other brand. The bacon hasn’t been cooked hours ago, and the sandwich is big enough to cut in thirds. Besides an array of fresh dips and soups, the real star at W.M. Poll is their baked potato crisps that are made fresh every day. Try the rosemary, you won’t be disappointed. Great place to get catering if you live nearby as well.

Just had the best roast beef of my life from William Poll. And at $ 14 the quarter pound, it better be. Add a little arugula, parmigiana, and fresh lemon juice and what you get is perfection. Runtelldat.

This tiny store houses some delicious food! If you’re not sure what to get, ask James or Stanley Poll, the brothers who run this family-owned business– they’re generous with advice and samples. I’m a fan of their sandwiches, especially the Chicken Salad sandwich and their fresh Guacamole. I also love their Peanut Butter & jelly sandwich, which has just the right amount of smoosh — you know what I mean, don’t you? If you time your visit just right, you can get your hands on a fresh baked scone available after 10:00 in the morning(these are well worth the wait, believe me). I tried the Coq au Vin and it was heavenly, perfect for dinner. They offer so much more and I’m slowly working through all the delicious fare. Everything is lovingly made and they ship and deliver ANYWHERE. Check out their beautiful Gingerbread Houses, too.
