Zoya Zak, DDS

I’ve visited this dentist several times in the past year and things have gotten progressively worse which has compelled me to write a review. Here is my honest feedback.
The Positives:
Dr. Zak is very accommodating schedule wise and keeps late hours. When you first meet her she seems like an extremely nice professional who wants to get your teeth into great shape. The office is modern and clean and the equipment (tools, computers etc) used all seem to be of good quality. This is what gained her a second visit from me after she did a routine cleaning and told me I had (2 or 3) cavities and needed to come back.
The Negatives:
Although my first visit ended up being a cleaning I was really there because I was getting getting married in 4 months and wanted to inquire about invisalign. She quoted me a price that was expensive but said that my insurance should cover some of the price. She had her receptionist call the insurance company and the next day I was informed that they would cover $ 2000. I then decided to move forward with the invisalign based on that and based on how unobtrusive she told me they would be. She showed me hers and then another patient’s invisalign (a woman that works down the hall) and you could hardly tell they had anything on! There teeth looked like nothing was there. She told me I would get these two little buttons on the sides like hers and that was it… WRONG. Completely false advertising.
Two months later the invisalign arrives and I go in to get my first set of trays. I noticed she seemed to be doing a lot of something on my teeth but thought nothing of it. When she was done she gave me the mirror and I was MORTIFIED!!! I looked like an adolescent with a mouth full of braces! She had button/​brackets on almost all of my front teeth. My teeth were nice to begin with but I wanted the perfect smile for my big day. Had she been honest and told me the truth about all of the button brackets that were needed to fix an overbite I would have never moved forward. I had her shave 6 of the 8 buttons on my front teeth and postponed starting the invisalign until AFTER the wedding. To add insult to injury, she told me AFTER the invisalign came in that she thinks now my insurance will only cover $ 1000 of the cost. So now I have to pay an extra $ 1000 more than I was originally told! I now have the invisalign in and am so embarrassed half the time I cover my smile. I was originally told oh you will have them for about 5 months — that’s now 10 months! EVERYTHING SHE TOLD ME INITIALLY WAS WRONG. Which leads me to my next issue.
The office appears to be understaffed or she is just not organized… For example I was told I had several cavities before starting invisalign but I only fixed 1 or 2 of them. She said I would not be able to get invisalign until I take care of them all because my tooth shape would change and not fit retainer. I never told her that I still had 1 cavity to address before starting the process but she should have had the info in her chart. We started since she didn’t have the info documented properly. Then recently she tells me I have 3 cavities (two must be new and 1 must be the old one). We are 20% though the invisalign process and my last two visits she has pressured me to take care of the cavities… I did not remind her that just 7 months ago she told me to get fillings done before because the tooth shape changes and won’t fit into the invisalign retainer! The cavities are not bad but its prevention so that you don’t have to get root canals later she tells me… Also she seems to have a high staff turn over and my last two visits she was doing receptionist work. She would have my file right in front of her and not know what my scheduled payments are she never follows up with insurance company when she says she will. 90% of the time there is a long wait to see her… She is all over the place.
Recently I saw a Unilocal deal that she had where you spend $ 225 and get $ 300 credit. I read all of the fine print TWICE and the deal totally applied to me so I bought it. I tried to use it at my next visit and she said no she would not honor it because I am not a new patient and I can’t use it for my visit because it was for invisalign. No where in the deal did it specify that you had to be a new patient and no where did it say all services except invisalign. she was making thing up on the spot all for $ 75 savings? I’ve spent several thousands there this year already and she would not honor the deal? Very poor business decision and poor customer service. I work across the street from the office at a large bank and people ask me for dentist referrals and I send them to my old dentist. If he did invisalign I would still be there. Can’t wait until this is over so that I can go back. I wish I could switch dentists now. This is a nightmare. She comes off very confident but now I can’t trust anything she says.

I absolutely love Dr Zak and her team very professional hygienic amazing dental work upscale office space very gentle but gets the work done !!! She will be the go to for me and my family as long as she is in business…, would definitely recommend … From her whitening to any cosmetic or general procedures She and her team are absolutely one of the best NYC has to offer !!!

Dr. Zak is literally the best dentist I have ever been too. First of all, her office is fabulous. Give me a MAC monitor and a fabulous reception desk and I’m sold. But beyond the fabulous cosmetic features of her office, Dr. Zak is a genuine, friendly, and caring person with my best interests at heart all times. I have been a patient in her office for 4 – 5 years, and would never go anywhere else.
Her staff is amazing too. Gina is so great and always a pleasure to see. PS: I highly recommend taking her up on her whitening trays.
Dr. Zak is a great dentist and has always kept my smile in check. If you don’t go to her office you are doing yourself a disservice.

Dr. Zak is great! She’s very professional, does immaculate work and has pretty late hours. The dental is in a very convenient location, newly built and very modern with state-​of-​the-​art equipment.
I highly recommend Dr. Zak!

Dr Zak and her staff are top notch, very professional, use state-​of-​the-​art equipment and do great work. I’ve been going here regularly for about 2 years and have no complaints. My only suggestion is that they get TV’S in their rooms so that I can watch my sports highlights on ESPN well getting my teeth worked on.

If you’re looking for a dentist who’s patient and thorough, Dr Zak is the absolute best!
I’ve had a lot of dental work done in the past couple of years and she is always very proffessional and works with me to prioritize the treatments I need. She is incredibly thorough and doesn’t fill even a cavity without making sure everything is handled the best it could be. I have very sensitive teeth and she is the most patient doctor. I really dislike having x-​rayes taken and can sometimes be a baby. Her assistants always work with me and never make me feel uncomfortable.
She has worked with my really busy schedule, on a number of occasions and always makes time to see me. Dr. Zak has given me root canals, crowns, cleanings and fillings and fixed past dental work. I look forward to seeing her and she makes dental work pleasant, if you can believe it! She is very dedicated to her work and would never do leave anything unfinished.
I couldn’t recommend Dr Zak highly enough. She is by far the best dentist I’ve ever seen.

I love Dr. Zak. She is careful and informative. She consistently checks in on you to see if you are in pain. Her office in midtown is very comfortable. I recommend her often.

She is moving, but the work and the service is still amazing!

I have been to a few dentists in Westchester and Manhattan, but when I met Dr. Zoya Zak, D.D.S I found a dentist I could trust. I am the type of person that cannot stand taking X-​rays, it’s just uncomfortable for me. But when I am in Dr. Zak’s chair, I find it a much easier taking X-ray’s. I needed a root canal fixed in a molar, a cavity filled and a chipped tooth repaired, and I am so happy I went to Dr. Zak. She is a PRO, especially since she had to deal with me — I can be a real pain at times but she saw through that and really did me a huge favor. I can’t wait till my next check up!

I don’t even know where to start. I LOVE Dr. Zak. I wish she were my go to for everything regular Dr. She’s AMAZING. She was willing to work with me when I didn’t have insurance so I could get my teeth cleaned and get badly needed fillings. She cleans teeth like no one’s business! It’s insane. When I leave it looks like I got my teeth whitened and even people on the subway will stop me to tell me how clean my teeth look!
And, she’s nice! I have sensitive gums and bleed a lot during cleaning and it hurts and I’m a baby about it. I told Dr. Zak about my infantile tendencies when I first met her and she has always been very liberal with the topical numbing agents, which I SUPER appreciate.
She also does botox. Talk about one stop shopping!
I have recommended her to everyone of my friends, coworkers, or general acquaintances. She is the only dentist I have ever trusted.

I’m a bit torn; the dental work is brilliant but the bedside manner is not great. Dr. Zak is very demanding of her assistants and frequently scolded them while she was working on my root canal, making for long, awkward silences. She had fired the first assistant I met by the time I came back for a follow-​up.
Her prices are very high; needing 3 root canals (take it from me — floss!) I decided to shop around after she did the first and found a two dentists in Brooklyn who would save me $ 500 and $ 1100 respectively. Only after I told her I needed my x-​rays for the new dentist did she offer a discount of $ 700, even though she had known I was recently laid off at my first visit to her office.
If you have money to burn and she’s hired a new assistant she likes, her work is meticulous. I just felt overcharged and awkward in her chair.

I am surprised to see negative reviews of Zoya’s work. Zoya is the most diligent dentist I know. She is very thorough, doesn’t cut corners, never rushes you out and works to deliver best results possible. She’s generous with her time and has appointments after 5pm which is helpful when you work in demanding office environment. Zoya’s staff is extremely helpful, always follows up and manages the schedule very efficiently. I definitely recommend Zoya.

I am so glad I found Dr. Zoya Zak! She has made such a difference for my mental state and my mouth. I am beyond petrified of the dentist’s chair, from one too many bad experiences with previous dentists, and Dr. Zoya Zak has helped me successfully get through the treatments I needed. She is completely patient and understanding and will do whatever it takes to get you through the dental work — she goes way beyond the call of duty. For me, she explains all of her reasoning and all of my options, so that I feel more in control. She is extremely competent and has always been right about my teeth, and has never recommended anything unnecessarily.
She is also very knowledgeable in regard to the interaction. Her willingness to consult also sets her apart from other dentists.
Both me and my husband have been patients of Dr. Zoya Zak for 3 years now.
She really cares about her work, lets you get involved in the decision making and follows up with the patient. And she is also the most gentle one I ever met. Really a great doctor! I highly recommend Dr. Zoya Zak!

Dr Zoya may be the best dentist in the world — I sure had hoped so! — but when I make a 9am appointment and the dentist doesn’t show up by 9:30am, not cool. I had to leave due to work and a matter of principle. So not cool!

Worst dentist I’ve ever been to. I do not trust her at all. She wanted me to have a ton of work done and my second opinion dentist didn’t see any problem that needed to be solved. She was extremely rude and unprofessional and I would never ever recommend her to anyone. Period.

I recently had a wisdom tooth extracted and another wisdom tooth filled. I was very happy with the result of my treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Zak.
