In the heart of Newark not far from Rutgers and the Newark museum lies a jersey gem of a grand store. The manager Yasmine is an awesome gal and though I haven’t met her father the owner yet let’s cut to the chase! This place has something for pretty much anybody from a bargain $ 1 bin of good read books to the latest issues to a fair share of rare books various action figures and statues and manga and even old school or modern martial arts movie DVDs and animé! Prices are negotiable and you get 10% off if your purchase is at least $ 20. The manager Yasmine informed me that her father the owner by appointment just might buy comics you’re looking to get rid of. Overall this treasure of a store is my favorite comic shop and I strongly recommend all you entertainment fans to visit!

A true comic book geek/nerds heaven. Owner knows comics and has a great outreach to creators and the community. Make it YOUR comic shop. You won’t regret it.

Love this place. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Stop by for some comics and end up there talking about movies, tv shows and whatever else comes up. They even make orders for you if a certain issue isn’t available! The location is great too. Love this place!

This is a great comic book shop. Kind staff. They’re quite friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for something but you can’t find it, they’re more than happy to help. As for the store, there’s a great assortment of comic books, from limited edition to new releases to back issues. They also have manga and a bunch of DC and Marvel props. They get a shipment of new releases every week. I highly recommend this store; it’s affordable and rad.

I didn’t know about this little gem until I passed by on the bus a few months ago. The selection is vast and there’s even lots of trade backs. Everyone there is extremely kind and helpful so don’t be afraid to say hello and ask questions! If you want a specific comic that already sold out or they don’t have in stock, they’ll order it for you. Most of the time, I go just because and walk out with comics I hadn’t intended on buying. Fortress of Solitude is an awesome place to check out.

A geeks dream came true and it’s named the fortress of solitude. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I am not a comic book expert but I know a few things. The associate helped me pick out some good comic books luckily. There is such a huge selection of comic books, some old and others new. Most comics range from $ 3 to $ 6 which is sweet. I purchased 4 good comics and received a 10% discount plus got a free comic book since I checked in. It would be quite difficult for you not to find what you are looking for in here, so check it out! Enjoy!!!

I stumbled upon this place whilst on my way to Broad St Station. I was shocked to find some Godzilla merchandise in the window. The place was closed at that time so I came the next day. I stopped un the next day and saw an array of comics of all kinds. Some on shelves and some on a long table. They also have older figures and collectibles. On the tv there was a bootleg of the most recent Godzilla film. I did make a nice purchase, a vinyl 70’s version of MechaGodzilla which was a steal. The only problem with the store is that like many comic shops the staff didn’t really pay attention or say hello until I had initiated conversation. Actually there is one more thing, the shop is in a really sketchy area near abandoned buildings so be vigilant on you’re venture there.

This is the movement from Broad St. I do miss the old spot. But this is a cool new funky building on university close to the different higher levels of education in the area. Can find many rare books and new ones too the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable Listen this what«they» call the Renaissance of Newark. The Fortress of Solitude has stood the test of time.(Even though Kal-el created it by throwing the crystal) there is so much happening in this area. So if your looking to get that Sci-Fi Fantasy fix of a Real big banged up theory come here trust and believe me you might find your self becoming a hero, kind of like Mayor Corey Booker he is Newark’s Batman. If you don’t believe me google it!!!

I have been a fan of this store for years… from the days of «One Flight Up» to Renaissance Books to the current Fortress of Solitude name… it is an awesome place with all of the latest titles. They are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful with any and all titles that you may need. It has been a staple in the community. Sincerely, CHRISTOPHER R.

Fortress of Solitude is the only comic shop I know of in Newark, proper. On a scetchy strip of the main drag of Newark, smashed between a couple of abandoned buildings, FoS manages to stay alive and true to the art of being a comic book geek in a brick and mortar store. The walls and tables are absolutely stacked with scuffed-up longboxes of comics, with the occasional brace of action figures and graphic novels haphazardly thrown in to let you know they’re not joking. The last time I was there, the staff were watching vintage gore horror, and there were porno VHS tapes strewn around the back of the counter. The people who run the place are clearly pirates of the first order… the kind that will drink all your rum and burn your town if they don’t have anything better to do. Luckily for us, this crew does have something keeping them busy. The only reason I haven’t put on the eyepatch and joined them on their quest for all the greatest illustrated stories is because I gave up on collecting issues ages ago. I just don’t know what to do with the things. So my only criticism is that their selection of graphic novels could be better.

Love this place. It’s been there for years, and if you can’t find what you’re looking for,(which is rare), the friendly owner will order it for you. What more can you ask for? Also, they sell good movies and animated series of all kinds.

Boxes upon boxes of comic books, most of which I’ve never heard of, are plopped in the center of this little comic store in downtown Newark. Not being a comic expert, I am usually subject to disdainful glances from ‘comic book guy’ clerks. This one is a little more friendly, since there are no D&D freaks around and there’s a movie playing in the background. If I had a little more nerd in me, this would be my gin joint. It’s named after something from Superman. I had to look that up. That’s how much I know about comics, people. Nada. Hey, it’s open on Saturdays, so it must be doing something right. There’s a real [old] arcade game in the back! Woot.
