Since the new owner came to this place the customer service has definitely gone down. The new owner is pretty rude sometimes and likes to work quickly without care for the customer. The food is okay… it really depends on the day you go. I’ve never had a problem with the breakfast menu. The grilled chicken pesto sometimes is missing the pesto flavor… the chicken quesdilla is pretty dry… chicken caesar wrap is bland… but you do get full for the ~$ 5 you pay for the food, which is perfectly okay with me. The chocolate chip cookies are my favorite! Sigh… I just wish the old owners were still here. They added character to the place.

A good coffee shop is hard to come by in downtown Newark, which is why I am thankful that Java’s Brewin’ exists! Long Story Short: –Cozy & comfortable atmosphere –Affordable & fair prices –What Java’s Brewin’ is best at: Coffee, Beverages & Baked Goods(especially the muffins & cookies) –Minor improvements in staffing & customer service are needed –I love their hours of operation(most business close between 5PM-7PM in the University Heights area) I’m not implying the Java’s Brewin’ is the best coffee shop around town, however it serves its purpose and its affordable! Beats paying $ 4(+) for a small/tall caramel macchiato at Starbucks! Plus

I want to like this place more. After all, the atmosphere and décor make this coffee shop exactly the type of place I love to frequent for lunch. Unfortunately, I can’t deny that it left me disappointed for a couple reasons. The first time I visited was a success. I was given a limited menu off-site, and someone ordered it in advance and had it waiting for us when we got there. I was able to order a veggie burger prepared with salsa. It was delicious, but very filling(it was a massive burger!). Thus, when I visited the next time and had the full menu to choose from, I wanted to try something else. That’s when things went sour for me. Firstly, it had quiche on the menu. Nothing gets me more excited than seeing quiche on a menu! However, I knew it would be too good to be true, so I asked the staff right away if they were, in fact, serving quiche that day. Nope. :( My next disappointment came when I realized they had no vegetarian options in terms of paninis. Bummer! Thankfully, they were willing to prepare one of their paninis sans meat. Unfortunately, when I received it, I was upset to discover that they had STUFFED the thing with cheese(probably to compensate for the lack of meat). I literally pulled out ½ cup or more of excess melted cheese from the sandwich. On the plus side, this place has great baked goods, coffees, smoothies, etc. Everyone where I work loves this place, and even though I had a disappointing experience, I will definitely visit again and try something else(perhaps the pizza). I will re-review when that happens!

New owner— rude staff!!! When I questioned the pricing of one my all-time fav items here(green tea smoothie), the guy plainly and loudly said to two other guys«this girl thinks I’m lying to her about prices» and rolled his eyes numerous times … HELLO… you do not say that while a paying customer is standing there… especiallllly when you’re new owners and all I asked was«what’s the price… that’s not usually what I pay.» ALSO, they did not have the price for the smoothie listed on the board, so I naturally wanted to confirm if the price was correct. Anyways I paid for a large smoothie but received a small cup. I did call him out on it letting him know that’s not how they talk to customers, and he did apologize… but this warranted an angry Unilocal review irregardless of his apology. GREAT smooothie– horrible heavy-set server behind the counter.
