I absolutely love their kudu paratha. This location is a really nice place to come to as the décor and the ambiance is pretty good and plenty of seating. The food quality is really good as well. If I was every craving spicy indian food this would be the place. Almost everything i have tried here has been good. Specific dishes I rather enjoyed are Chicken 65, kudu paratha(mutton paratha, biyanish thing) and their butter chicken. But check this place out for your self if you really craving some good south Indian food. Warning if you don’t want it spicy let them know not to make it spicy, but its still has a pretty good kick to it.(they do look at you funny cause they are really known for their spiciness)

The best Chettinadu food :) Went for dinner and ordered Chettinadu Chicken gravy with Parota and Kal Dosai Parota was so fresh and kal dosai was perfect :) With my personal experience, I feel its better than Anjappar in terms of taste, quality and cost Planning to try for lunch as well :)

Food was reasonably good, but the wait is way too long and service from harried waiters didn’t help with dishes forgotten and appetizers coming way too late.

I came here for lunch Ordered butter chicken and partha Chicken partha Mutton soup And Falooda Firstly mutton soup was served with no bones in it and no bone flavour in it just like spiced water with boiled mutton in it Secondly paratha was good but butter chicken was totally disastrous it was like some fish curry but never tasted like butter chicken its a very bad experience Next came chicken paratha which was good compared to others Now comes my favourite desert falooda its simply awful never seen a falooda without rose milk but have seen here Just a scoop of icecream on top and inside is nothing but boiled spaghetti with no taste yuck! Finally i highly recommend never visit this place for food Tq

I never had tried chettinad cusine, but I liked it! I tried the Unilocal recommended mutton soup and found it good, if not spicy and a little too salty. I experienced pure nirvana when sucking on the bone, but other than that it’s def a 4 start place. Ambiance is your typical Indian place, and service is a bit weird as well.

this place is worth a try. you should know chettinad cuisine, which is asubtype of indian. you won’t find samosas or chicken tikka masala. by contrast, there is a large international chettinad restaurant in millbrea that is worth trying. this place has a lot of the same dishes. when I visited, the chettinad chicken was a little wimpy. I understand now, by talking to other people who have been there, that about 3 weeks ago they made the decision do «dumb down» their spices because they were getting too many complaints. This is silly, because it is a chettinad restaurant, says so on the door, and the people eating there are indian and their taste buds could not have forgotten so much ! Thus, I will go to the chettinad restaurants closer to my house that have remembered they are chettinad, and not travel all the way to millbrea for inferior taste. I hope the owner gets the message and makes their food correctly.

It’s *really* hot food. Be prepared! But after getting over the initial burn, your mouth will hold a steady flame and you can still taste all the spices. We had the Meen Kolumbu fish curry, Chettinadu chicken, and a few sides. The two main entrees seemed a pinch on the small side, presented in simple bowls with no decoration. Food was served promptly even though the restaurant was quite busy. Waitstaff were very responsive with our requests for more foods/drinks. They also seem«traditional» in attitude about the sexes, with our waiter not looking at me but rather to my male dinner companion for confirmation of my order & requests. A little disconcerting, here in the Bay Area!

This place is grossly underated! We went for weekday lunch and chose veg kottu roti and veg thali. The veg thali was the best I’ve had in years. Every single dish was delicious and authentic. As to be expected with Chettinad food, it was very spicy. I will spare the details of the specific dishes other than reiterate just how authentic and fresh it was. Don’t think they cheated with frozen vegetables either! The rasam alone was worth going for. The bad bit was the kottu roti. A bit mushy and not quite up to street food standards. My fault for ordering the wrong thing at the wrong place. Felt like they mixed some curry with the roti and got the roti really soggy. Not nice. Wish they would stick to what they are good at which is Chettinad style home cooking, not street food. Still I will give it 5 stars as the dishes on the thali deserve 7 stars and the bad Kottu roti did not spoil our overall experience.

This place is for all the south Indian food lovers :) Craving for some spicy food then this is the place to go. I am a regular visitor here and since its quite near to where i stay i feel this place is a quick grab for a most tasty south Indian food. Ambiance: Its just normal like any other indian restaurant so definitely not for someone who should be going for a date: P. Its for a family whose goal is just to eat great food. Food: You must try mutton bone soup here. its yummm. Ofcourse the biryani lovers cannot just miss this place. I like egg biryani(basmati rice) and chicken biryani(they use samba rice). Also this is a restaurant for some heavy lunch and dinner but you can find the most amazing soft idlis here. The chutneys are worth trying. Please note this place is for people who dont care for calories lol… Price: Yeah the price is reasonable, i wont say its less .It is worth paying for the taste though. $ 20 for two with a minimum 2 non veg orders. It can go upto $ 30 or more if you order crab, fish etc. I would say the place is $$. For Non Veg lovers of Fremont and Newark if you have not visited this place staying here then you are missing on something. Go grab some yummy food ASAP …

Honestly, I’d give this place a 3 and a ½ stars if I had that option but 4 it is. I have been here a few times and the one thing I have to say is that the food is inconsistent. The first two times the biryani was mind blowing, it was easily the best biryani I’d had in the bay area but third time it wasn’t the same. It was salty and again the fourth time. Some of the curries were amazing the first and second time but weren’t that impressive later on and some tasted pretty normal the initial few times but became extremely flavorful later. If they’d maintain the consistency of the taste I’d have probably given them 5 stars(my first review with 5 stars). To summarize, I’d definitely recommend this place to any person who enjoys typical south Indian chettinad food cause it’s still easily the best in the bay area. I haven’t had any of their North Indian dishes so I cannot comment on that.

This is yet another great find in the Indian Chettinad Cuisine variety and a very refreshing addition to the bay area. The Hubby & Me are huge fan of these cuisines and their spicy aromatic flavors are no big surprise to us. We visited Malaikottai last month & had our delicious & very authentic South-Indian Lunch. I think that even today the taste of their dishes still remains on my tongue — very inviting flavors & perfect cooking. To all the fans of Aachi Aappakadai chains, know that this is another branch of their own with just a new name. The place is big enough to serve larger groups as well, clean ambience and you’ll notice interesting décor lamps with native photographs. Quick service by the attendant who served us, he was helpful with suggestions too. We ordered, Both our main dishes were served Hot & Fresh. Even the veggies in the side dishes, kurma and sambar were cooked well and tasted exceptionally good. #Veg Kurma(Korma) with Parottas(Parathas) | $ 9.49 — It’s a layered flatbread served with spicy mixed vegetables curry, very popular dish in the southern parts of India. Layers of the parottas were crispy and on the whole, soft and welcoming. Veg Kurma tasted more like our homeland dish, only spicy eaters can relish it. #Ghee Roast Dosa | $ 7.99 — It’s a savory crêpe, a staple food in most southern states of India. Large crispy roll served with 3 chutneys(tomato, coconut & Coriander) & sambar as sides. Beats the home food craving. Praise worthy!!! #Watermelon Fresh Juice | $ 3.99 — This was served reasonably cold and fresh as promised. Overall, glad to have found this place through Unilocal! Not even a single item we ordered disappointed us. Appreciate the Chef and the kitchen staff for retaining the authenticity of the food. Decent service and above all, not too expensive menu. What more can we ask for? Sure to visit again!

Malaikottai is still my favorite Chettinaadu/South Indian restaurant in the Bay Area and here is why: The service and food quality have been consistent for the past 6 months(from the time they opened). Off late, they have increased the food portions, which is awesome. A list of dishes I have tried from the menu and my personal favorites. Soups: –Mutton Bone soup –Kozhi soup(chicken soup) Both are great but my favorite one is the mutton bone soup. A great soup to try on a cold day. Highly recommended! Appetizers: –Crispy fried prawns –Vegetable cutlet –Cauliflower 65 –Nethili meen fry(fried anchovies marinated with Indian spices) –Beware of the tiny bones in this dish, if you are not used to it –Chicken 65(My personal favorite) –Pepper chicken fry Entrees: –Idiyappam with coconut milk(string hoppers made from rice flour) –Karuvepillai Chicken(Curry leaf based dish and it is super delicious) — goes great with parotta/naan –Butter Chicken(I LOVE having this dish with parottas, not the usual way to eat it, but I love it. Do try it out!) –Meen Kozhambu(fish curry) –Try this with white rice +2 stars for the Natukozhi Biriyani(country chicken) and the Ambur mutton biriyani. It is spicy and flavorful. The biriyanis are to die for. Also Malaikottai is my go to place to have biriyani, since I am not a huge fan of the Hyderabadi dum biriyanis. Also, do not forget to try the cold Badam Milk(Almond drink) when you are here. The ambiance is cozy and warm. The service is quick and the people are friendly. The pick-up orders are quick too. It usually takes around 15 – 20 minutes from the time you call. Overall, thoroughly impressed with Malaikottai. Hope they continue to maintain their standards in the days to come! Thankfully I don’t have to drive down to Sunnyvale or Santa Clara anymore to have a good South Indian meal.

Came to this place with my family. We were a group of ten and they accommodated us pretty quickly. They have a great menu. It ranges from South Indian to North Indian. My grandma was craving dosas(South Indian) while my cousins and I were craving butter chicken(North Indian). This was the perfect place. The sofas and the décor looked new. The ambiance is nice. The food was delicious. Honest with Indian food for me since I eat it often is a hit and miss and this place is a hit for me! The service was great as well. Our server was funny and also recommended dishes to us. Always came to us with a smile.

Mango lassi — yummy, the consistency is perfect so is the sweetness. Service was friendly. We ordered the vegetable biriyani, cutlets and idlis. They were all very tasty. The sambhar was quite tasty too.

I’ve been meaning to visit this place for a month now, so I was glad to finally make it here for lunch. I grew up in chennai and love all South Indian food(when made well). Ordered the vegetarian thali and they were nice enough to substitute the yogurt for extra sambar since I’m going vegan this year(which kinda backfired on me since the sambar was loaded with ghee haha), anyway the portion size was huge and all items tasted really good. The thali was on par with Ananda Bhavan, which is the best I’ve had in the Bay Area. The spice level was pretty high as expected from a Chettinad restaurant, and I almost regretted not getting the yogurt. Service was just ok. I would come back again to try out the dosas.

Let me start by saying, One bonus star just for having Naatukozhi dishes in the weekend. The service is decent. The food is good. We had a thali, everything in thali was really good. And Naatukozhi biryani was really tasty. This is very good biryani but no hyderbadi biryani, but again you are in a chettinad restaurant: D. I would definitely come back when I have my chettinad cravings.

South Indian cuisine found within a community that has a large desire for authenticity. As someone who has been to India on multiple visits, I won’t dispute their authenticity. They know what real cuisine is supposed to look and smell like, and the entire staff looks like they were born in the kitchen. But the high spicy level has no harmony or tone. All it does is blaze the mouth recklessly. So I have to unfortunately give this place a marginal thumbs down. #likereally

Good service… Nice ambience and yummy spicy food… We tried the below Chicken 65– Nice … But not awesome… Chicken pepper fry — loved it. spicy… But yummy as hell. Laccha parathas — loved them… Falooda — looked awesome… But ok. Tough to eat without dropping anything out of the glass… No actual milk in it to drink with the straw. Overall really liked the place… Will definately visit again to try out some of the other dishes on the menu that looked soooo good.

Wowww. Is the only term apt for this restaurant. Four of us went there yesterday for dinner and ended up ordering a lot of items. The dosa was perfect, idli being very soft and fluffy– steamed to perfection. The staff was very polite and the service very quick. The interior too was very clean and neat. The best was my desert faloodaaa… I would surely comeback again. In love with this place
