This community library serves the Clinton Hill and Weequahic neighborhood sections that are in the South Ward in Newark. It is a two-story building that has fortunately been well maintained and preserved over the years. The building is actually stands as it had when it was first erected — with the same wood and brick on the façade. The building has a charm about it, for sure. The adult and young adult sections are on the first floor, while the children’s room is on the second. The immediate neighborhood in which it’s located is residential with a few mom-and-pop businesses around. Like the other NPL branches, it serves the needs of the community and provides library resources for adults and children. It is surrounded by schools(pre-K, elementary, and University HS), so a major emphasis for this branch seems to be serving as a resource for students at all levels. Teachers and parents disseminate and distribute information for the community vis-à-vis the branch. Like the other branches, there are collections of books and media, and computers available for use, for all patrons. Newark Public Library is a wonderful library. Its branches are essential in supporting the NPL’s noteworthy vision and mission. For that, I give the branches 4-stars for the work that its employees and volunteers do to enrich the lives of the people in the community.
