Great food in huge portions. My buddy and I split a whole order of half ribs/chicken. I also got a Guarana soda, which you can’t find everywhere. The whole bill for both of us came to $ 20. What a deal. I will be back to try the garlic shrimp next time. Only disappointment was that they were out of flan. You should definitely check this place out when in the area.

Not a bad bbq spot, but it pales in comparison to McWhorter BBQ just a few blocks down. The meat is pretty good, but the killer is the very bland rice. That, and the very bright atmosphere take it down a few notches. McWhorter’s great sides and overall comfortable atmosphere make it King

This place is even better than what I remember. After moving away 10+years, I came back looking for this place. They moved to a bigger location and making a whole lot more. On weekends, the line is long but worth the wait. The receptionist/cashier doesn’t speak much english. Before taking a number, keep in mind who is in front/back of you. That way, if you don’t understand what number they’re calling, go to the front and show the ticket. They’ll take good care of you. Chicken(pollo)/ribs(costillas) are my staples… add the rice/fries for less than the price of coffee. Great for take-out and eating at home.

Went here yesterday for lunch on Cinco de Mayo. It was not for Mexican food, but for delicious Portuguese bbq! The steak sandwich with fries for only 7bucks. You Can’t beat that. It was so good. I didn’t even need ketchup. A must go.

Have been coming eating here and ordering out from here since i was young lad. The bbq chicken and ribs are always on point and there is no other place that can compare. The chicken is flavorful and has the right amount of seasoning.

Been here a few times now for lunch. Food is good and place is clean. I usually get a steak sandwich with fries. The fries are the best part. There are a few things that I don’t like about the place. 1. You can’t substitute anything. Example: most orders come with rice and fries. Substituting a salad is not an option. 2. I understand it is in the iron bound but only one of the waitresses there speaks a little bit of English. Most of them can’t speak a word. It makes ordering difficult and has resulted in the wrong food coming out.

First of all, people, it’s spelled«Barbecue.» Not worth making the correction, but come on, the entire Unilocal food category is «Barbeque»? Ugh. Anyway. This is my first Ironbound/Portuguese BBQ experience, and it leaves me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I feel like the meet was drier than I would have liked, and rather salty. On the other hand, the salt made the ribs taste like I was eating bacon off the bone, and the crispy saltiness of the chicken skin gave way to moist, tender meat underneath with a complex myriad of flavors. The rice was also dry and a little bland, but overall fairly well balanced and flavorful. I’m not a fan of having fries with BBQ, understanding that all the places around here seem to serve it, but they were tasty and not very oily; unfortunately, they were mostly limp. I wavered between 3 and 4 stars. My overall experience leans 3 stars, but then I think of the flavor, and then I think again of the price — under $ 40 for four people, including bottles of Brazilian soda. I may have to try a few more BBQ places around here before I settle on the ultimate review. For now, not bad, and it was fun to try something new.

I love this place! Fresh cut fries all the time!!! Growing up in Newark,(ironbound-Newark) this was my place to eat BBQ chicken — Portuguese style– and still is! I haven’t been here in maybe 3 years and the freshness of fries and rice are still up to par! Chicken and pork Ribs — luscious and always leaving you wanting more. Yellow rice and fries — tastiest rice(cooked to perfection) ever and fries are perfectly crisped. Salad — I have no idea why this is my weakness. It is a very simple salad. Consisting of: ice berg lettuce, white onion, tomatoes, black olives and shredded carrots with an amazing oil and vinegar dressing!(possible fresh lemon squeeze too) that’s it!!! — YES! I am not the only one who loves this damn simple salad! EVERYYYY– OnE loves it too! Rumor is — more than one olive oil and vinegar are used in the dressing– letting it sit overnight. Anyways, just try it! Trust me you will leave satisfied! Happy Eating!

As far as Portuguese BBQ goes — this has been my place for years. Everything here is good, fresh, and frugal. The portions are huge here and meant to be shared [as most Portuguese meals]. It’s an awesome place just to spend a long time and drink some beers [byob –nothing in the restaurant] and eat a lot slowly and immediately need a nap afterwards. The good: cheap — good Portuguese bbq — quick service the bad: it’s not really a ‘pretty’ place but that’s not the feel they are going for

For all the Portuguese BBQ spots in Newark, no place does it better than Pulaski BBQ. I’ve been coming to this place since 2002. Their BBQ chicken, BBQ ribs or a combo of both with fries and rice or salad or all three is so delicious. Another great dish that they have is picadinho which is a pork cubes with shrimp and potatoes in a delicious sauce. This place won’t break your pockets! BYOB!!!

First of all, finding a BBQ spot in Newark is like shooting fish in a barrel, especially in the Ironbound area. 2 of my boys and I came here with cavemen appetites, as one of them raved about the portions they serve. Upon arrival immediately you can tell its one of those family friendly joints where you can bring lets say a group of 8 – 12 and be seated almost immediately. We ordered just one combo platter for all of us and we wanted to DIGIN, when we finally got our platter, my friend was right! The food tasted sooo good, Yellow Rice with fries and of course Rotisserie Chicken and Ribs. Our stomachs weren’t ready for this as the 3 of us couldn’t finish it all. It was a shame that none of us took it in a doggy bag because we had to be somewhere after-wards, but we were most definitely satisfied and I believe the bill was under $ 20 including tip! WHAT!!! That is very hard to find these days and PULASKIBARBEQUE may not be the best BBQ place in Ironbound since there is too many to decide from, but it is absolutely worth it… Get your binge eating on!

I’m blessed to live only a block away from this place. This latest time we ordered the BBQ chicken and it was absolutely delicious then and even better the next day. In addition to the chicken we ordered saffron rice, fries, and salad. For the quantity and quality given I’d say it was more than worth the money. It may not end up being my favorite Ironbound-based BBQ but regardless, I’d still say I’m a fan.
